It has to start somewhere. The thing many "underground" music lovers don't understand is that unfortunately the US is all about the commercial market. If "underground" music wants to survive the trends in any US city & eventually become a staple, it takes shows like this one & stations like 93.1 to help give the industry a push and spread awareness to the public.

In reality, it takes $$ to bring in talent. To make $$ you have to market the product you are selling. It seems to me that when we discover a dj & he's blowing up in the underground scene or just about to, we're quick to praise him. However, that same DJ peaks thru the underground roof & sometimes we're quick to forget him. It seems like many underground music lovers pride themselves on liking DJs just before their fame hits. Sort of like braggin' rights. It's like telling your date you know of this hot place that no one knows of yet & it rocks. I understand part of us loosing interest in a DJ might come from the DJ lacking motivation or falling into a comfort zone assuming he doesn't have to work soo hard anymore cuz he's made it. However, I'm sure it's not like that in some cases, yet some DJs still get dissmissed by the moles living in the underworld.

My point is guys like Paul van Dyk, Tiesto, Oakie & others provide a big chunk of the market for the new breeds of Underground DJs. It's a shame that sometimes DJs phase out. In this industry you have to keep finding ways to carefully reinvent yourself in order to survive. The bottom line is Mixer, D'vox & other Electronic music Mags, feature juicy stories & interviews on the big guys to open the door for the ones on the way up. The same works for Clubs, radio stations & TV shows around the world.

I know some of you aren't with projects like this & are probably thinking the scene can do with out it. But who knows, its projects like this that open the mind of a first time listener & help him expand on his new discovery of what Underground music is. After all, if this were'nt the case, we'd be braggin' about Puff Daddy's new video & Britney Spears' new track. The US still has a long way to go to get to Europe standards. I'm not sure if it will ever get there- We'll need alot of people in the industry to step up here in the US. But you know what?? Even if it doesn't get there, it sure feels good where we are at right now. Let's not make that fade...;)

UMMM BIZ, STATIONS LIKE KTU AND 93.1 AND DANCE VIDEO STATIONS HURT THE SCENE, BACK THEN YOU HAD TO GO OUT TO SEE THEM, NOW YOU SIT BACK, AND PUNCH NUMBERS WITH YOUR REMOTE...

WE ALL TOLD SPACE NOT TO BROADCAST FROM THERE. OSCAR CLAIMED THAT SPACE IS UNDERGROUND, WELL THEY BROAD CAST THEIR SETS ON THE MOST CHEESY COMMERCIAL STATION OUT THERE!

PLEASE JUST ADMIT, ITS JUST FOR THE MONEY. CAUSE WHAT ELSE WOULD IT BE FOR? IT DOESN'T HELP NO ONE! TOO MANY RADIO RIPS OUT THERE. IT TOOK ME A MONTH TO GET THE REAL 2 MONTHS OFF TRACK, BUT I HAD THE RADIO RIP 1 DAY AFTER IT GOT FIRST PLAY ANY WHERE IN THE WORLD...

KEEP THE CLUB SHIT OFF THE COMMERCIALS, OFF THE RADIO AND OFF THE TV... KEEP SHOWS LIKE WILD ON E, WHO DUB THEIR VIDEOS WITH CHEESY SHIT OFF THE AIR!

BBC RADIO ONE IS DOING A HUGE DISSERVICE TO CLUBS....PEOPLE ARE ADDICTED TO THE BEATS, BUT ITS TOO EASY TO GET THEM... IF WE ALL HAD PORN STARS LIVING IN OUR HOUSES, WE'D NEVER GO OUT FOR ASS....

I'VE PROBABLY HEARD ONE SOUND FACTORY COMMERICAL IN 5 YEARS.. NEVER HEARD ARC OR VINYL.. BUT I SURE HEAR A LOT OF SPACE AND EXIT COMMERCIALS...

SEE YOU SAT

I NEED TO BOOK A TABLE. I'LL GET UP WITH YOU ON THRUSDAY..

SMOKE EM IF YOU GOT EM

AND IF YOU DON'T GOT EM, DON'T SMOKE EM..

We need more class rooms in Miami. We just can't depend on Space, Crobar, Spin, & all the other music oriented parties @ places like Lola, Livingroom & Blue to educate the Masses. I'm not sayin' that these ideas are the way to go. But it does help break the ice a bit.

You are only seeing the negatives. We need to grow, not shrink. We can't afford to keep good music hidden. If so, we'll all grow old & the music will be forced out, with no hope to pass it on. 93.1 does nothing to interfere with the Space sound in their broadcasts. How are they hurting us??

Everyone said the broadcasts weren't the way to go when Space started them. Look now, everyone is trying it. How has it changed Space?? Same residents, more music...

It's about Evolution...

Saleen, with all due respect, BBC Radio 1 and KISS (UK) have been playing that music for a very long time and that hasn't stopped people from going out to the clubs. Clubbers go out in the UK by the busloads far distances every weekend to reach their favorite clubs and see their favorite DJs. That's dedication. I think there are probably more buses filled with clubbers there on a Saturday night than there are of senior citizens headed down the Garden State Parkway to Atlantic City. If the major clubs are hurting, its not because of the radio. It's because of the economy. Everyone has their own reason for going to the clubs. I just can't imagine that hearing the music on the radio is going to make them become complacent. I'll admit that if I lived two hours away from the clubs, I probably wouldn't be hopping on a bus even if it was Tiesto/Sasha/PvD/Scott Bond or any other of my favorite DJs spinning. But it would have nothing to do with what's on the radio. It would be because I'm lazy (that's why I live on the beach).

Come to think of it, the first time I heard Scott Bond was on a Radio 1 Essential Mix done in 1998 that I got a hold of in early 1999. That set got me to go out and see him in NYC. So, I think Radio 1 actually may be performing a great service. In a way, you get a free preview of the DJ before having to pay for cover and drinks.

Caught A3 the other day at my friend's place....it was interesting for sure, the cheesy videos were good for a laugh, such as Oakie's 'Ready, Steady, Go..." clip. Oakie looks like a drunken buffoon in that one.

Go with it, see where it leads, you and David have the experience to bring it out full-time.

Saleen,

Where were you before your heard your first track....

Before your eyes were opened wide by the pounding soundsystem of a large room... Even for you Saleen there was that first time. Who introduced you to the scene, and if they didn't who would you be today? This music is NOT JUST FOR YOU! It is for everyone, these artists do not make a lot of money doing what they do. Sure the lucky few who couple the right decisions with talent and timeing can postion themselves to garner 20,000+ fees to spin records for a few hours. I am a believer in this music, much more I may say than you. Projects like Party 93.1 and Alternative TV-3 on the beach has the real potential to help perpetuate a style of music most people are only exposed to through car commercials and Blade movies! Party 93.1 launched on January 1 @ 12 am, now because of Phil Michaels' (program director) depth of vision US radio finallly has a "new" format. Something not seen in this country since the perpetuation of rap stations in the early 90's. Now because of him 4 other station have opened up with cloned formats accross the country. Yes its top 40 dance. but after 10pm Party does live broadcatss from clubs like Space, features some of the worlds best dance artists on Global DJ broadcast proceded by Paul Oakenfold presents on Sundays. Deep Dish, Paul Van Dyk and Paul Oakenfold...this scene has no time for small minded people, the US is the new frontier, the DJ the new rock star, who are you with your narrow vision to limit artists who wish to be heard just because you want to keep it all to yourself...I'm sorry my friend but this muisc is not about popping a pill and seeing if you'll push yourself far enough to make it to RED sunday afternoon.

buster,

first off every person on this board can attest I've never done a club drug in my entire life and I come from the nyc/nj scene.

Back in the day, you only heard the hard core tracks on the radio station promo's. They will be giving the weather report and you are like, "DAMM THAT BACK GROUND TRACK IS HOT". That was the extent of the hard core tracks on ktu in nyc. There was no internet so finding info was really hard. Well my first time in a hardcore club was Temps, I was 18 with my fake id. Tsettos dropped the Train by Robbie Tronco, still one of my favorite tracks, and the place exploded. Once that track dropped i was hooked for life. Heres the deal though, all you people keep saying the music is for the masses. HELLO! EARTH TO THOSE PEOPLE, IT AIN'T WORKING. CLUBS ARE GOING OUT, CROWDS ARE SMALLER, DJS ARE STARVING, LABELS ARE SHUTTING DOWN. AND JUST DON'T THINK ITS ONLY IN USA, ENGLAND IS IN BIG TROUBLE AS WELL... ITS BROKE AND IT NEEDS TO BE FIXED. NO MORE CHARTS, NO MORE KTU, OR BBC OR VIDEOS OR ANY OF THAT CRAP. MAKE IT SO HARD FOR US TO LISTEN TO THOSE TUNES THAT WE HAVE TO GO OUT.

HAS ANYONE NOTICED DEEP DISH HAS NOT PUT UP A CHART SINCE MAY!!!! THINGS ARE CHANGING AND DJS ARE NO longer GIVEING OUT IDS AND NOT PUTTING UP CHARTS ANYMORE. FOR THE BIG TIME GUYS, I THINK YOU'LL SEE LESS AND LESS OF THEM BROADCAST ON THE RADIO. TOO MANY RADIO RIPS.

93.1 IS A JOKE, I BET YOU ALL US CLUB MUSIC WHORES HAVE CDS IN 9 TIMES OUT OF 10, WHEN WE DRIVE SOMEWHERE... NOW THEY ARE PLAYING ZOMBI NATION!!!!! ITS LIKE THAT STATION IS ON REPEAT AND TELL THEM TO SHUT UP ABOUT THE COMMERCIALS... ENOUGH IS ENOUGH WITH THEM TELLING US HOW MANY COMMERCIALS THEY HAVE. casuse that in its self is a commercial....

SINCE YOU GUYS CLAIM YOU ARE GOING TO BRING THE MUSIC TO THE MASSES, THEN HOW COME, THEY PULLED JUDGE JULES CD FROM STORE SHEVLES. HOW COME SR RECORDS WENT OUT OF BUSINESS. HOW COME NYC JUST SUCKS RIGHT NOW. HOW COME THE HAMPTONS WERE DEAD THIS YEAR. HOW COME SOBE IS TURNING INTO GHETTO HELL. HOW COME NO ONE CAN GET A SINGLE SIGNED IN ENGLAND TO A LABEL. HOW COME DEEP DISH AND MANY OTHER DJS ARE NOT PUTTING UP CHARTS. HOW COME NO ONE BUYS ANY CLUB TRACKS. HOW COME CLUBS ALL OVER IN THE US ARE CLOSING.

ITS BROKE AND YOU GUYS THINK YOU ARE GOING TO FIX IT. YOU CAN'T... IT HAS TO GO BACK TO THE WAY IT WAS IN THE LATE 90'S.

BACK IN THE DAY, IT WAS 10 BUCKS AT THE DOOR AND YOU HAD NO IDEA WHAT THEY WERE PLAYING. NOW EVERY WEEK I BURN A MIX CD FOR MY FRIEND AMY. THESE ARE UNRELEASED TRACKS. AND EVERY WEEK SHE LOVES THEM BUT NEVER PLAYS THEM AFTER A WEEK.. THESE TRACKS HAVE A SHELVE LIFE OF 2 WEEKS. IT REMINDS ME OF HILARY BANKS ON THE FRESH PRINCE OF BELL AIRE TV SHOW. SHE WOULD ALWAYS SAY THNGS LIKE "THAT LOOK IS SOOOOOOOOOOOO LAST WEEK"....

WELL THATS HOW CLUBS ARE NOW... COMMERCIALIZATION IS TO BLAME......

MAN I TYPED A LOT. LOL

It's because I left NYC and moved down here!!!

Seriously, 93.1 and A3 don't bother me. What I hate is the amount of crappy CDs I have to rummage through at the record store just to find something good to buy. My first time in Ibiza was 1995, and I got hooked. Back then, it was easier to find good music because you didn't have every freakin' record label putting out this stuff. Now for every GU or Renaissance recording, you've got 500 other CDs that suck. Today you have to go through thousands of these mixes and compilations, half of which have the word Ibiza in their title. I hate that!! Record labels just trying to capitalize on what they think is a current trend, but not spending the time to actually put out a good product. And what do most of those CDs have to do with Ibiza anyway? Nothing!! That hurts good artists because the masses who come to the record store may never reach those CDs because they are surrounded and covered up by all the other crap.
