mrfeeling
JAMES LAVELLE GU#023 BARCELONA out tomorrow 10/15By all accounts, this is one of the best sets in the GU series. Mr. Lavelle is a DJ with pure class. GU has once again stretched the boundaries of the scene and taken and applaudable risk . This is not a set built for trainspotting and/or music elitism...it's one based simply on a great DJ's interpretation of great music.btw...wicked Ian Brown and Doves UNKLE re-mixes end each disc. mrfeeling
BAPE stands for Bathing Ape which is a brilliant, long-standing, underground clothing and accessory line from Japan (www.BAPE.com) which is run by a very close friend of James. I think that its great that he chose to wear gear from a company run by his mates. As for the content of the album...its simply a brilliantly put together piece of work that visits a variety of genres and sub-genres of electronic dance music. James' musical background is grounded in hip-hop so there are alot of break-beat elements. Historically, dance music has been about taking risks and not paying attention to categorization and that is an attitude that I think we need to get back to. Let's stop fracturing the scene with genrefication and just listen, dance and enjoy.
