whoa!

ok, truth be told, i didn't DL last week. i really have no idea what darude is doing nowaday's. aside from "sandstorm" i really have no clue what type of stuff he produces, nor would i think i would like it. i'm more into tribal and techno, so unless darude started producing tribal and techno stuff in the last 3-4 years, i dont think i would buy it.

if you like more tribal / techno - you should check out LOUIS OSBORUNE "Motion Audio V1" is a underground album no real HITS as far as commercial tracks - but a great intelligent comp. with a good groove - enjoy - take care - and DONT DL!!!!

i should? why? its taking money from the label - when we have paid to manufactor / produce and get this product into the market place - having some DL for free is not something im celebrating you know what i mean!

it will help spread the word about how crappy or great the album is. How much does it really cost you? How much does it cost stores? Why such a high markup on an inferior product?

You'll be surprised at the over head required to deliver a finished album to the store !

seriously though byassninc, since we have you on the line:

I'm a producer and I have a guy that I routinely send tracks to, and he sends them out to labels. I figure, hey, if one of them likes my tracks then they will sign it, I'll sign the track away and only hope that I make enough money off of it to pay for some better equipment to make my next track. I figure, if I really have a talent then I'll make a living off this someday.

And I understand that the market will only pay so much for CDs, say $16.00. But you guys have so many people in between the artist and the prurchaser that it creates this problem: if all the promoters, and labels, and A&R, and tech guys, and manufacturers, and distributors, and agents, and radio people, etc. etc. etc. ALL have to get a piece of the $16.00, then everyone becomes hyper-sesitive to every single cent that is supposedly "stolen" by someone downloading it.

And if that many people are needed to make an artist sell, then maybe that artist is not really that talented.

You thoughts?

well if we cut out the "middle men" then the business would fall quicker than it is right now. The money lost to DL is alot higher than people think.

We spend our money first on advance to get the album - which goes direct to the talent - then you have to pay to get the album mastered and manufactored - then its shipped to our distrubtion company - who then sells to the retail stores. What we pay for a CD is one price - we then get a set amount per unit from the distrubution company - who then sells to the store - who marks it up to there price.

You also have to understand that we have to pay a retail program to get the album in the stores - they dont just take them you have to PAY to get them there. And it all mounts up, when you take the whole process into account.

To do it on your level is fine - BUT wouldnt you like to have your production sold on a National level - and this is what costs the big bucks. Is downloading killing the industry no - but it does make our work somewhat harder - can we stop it no - maybe over time it can be decressed somewhat. Apple have started a great new way to collect some of the money lost to downloads with there 99c single sales. will this catch on? who knows - right now its a waiting game - we have to see what is going to happen.

Music is my life and being involved on a business level has made me more aware of what actually goes into producing and releasing singles / albums / its a tough game. even outside the manufactoring costs you then have promotion, advertising, radio programes the list goes on and on!

so as nice as your theory is - we still need all the players to make this clock keep ticking!

i have no idea - if you buy a CD within the first two weeks of release its usually slightly cheaper - as a sale price is given around $13.99 (ish) but for the most part a cd is around $16.00 give or take - its to do with the over all cost to get that Cd into the store.

well i am not advocating or admitting to anything but there is nothing the music labels can do to stop the mass downloading of music off of the internet. every method or technology they have come up with has been defeated within hours of first release. so... they need to wake up and change their whole system of marketing and payoffs to really maximize their investment's potential because cracking down on college kids only drives the resolve of music lovers around the world to keep pumping that shaft up the music industry's ass.

Actually, I think what PGiddy was getting at was that Darude is known for some poptrance crap that was popular among a bunch of fist-pumping guidos at Exit. No offense, I am not saying that to be rude or nasty or anything but that is the general conception at least amongst the people I know... hence why the whole post was dripping with sarcasm from the start...

Thats ok you can say whatever you feel - it might not be your taste or style - but you cant knock something that works. being his label all we care about is sales - we feel his sound works and sells - so lets see!
