Looking for a new web host

I have been having problems with my web hosting. It seems like the last three companies have all complained about bandwidth issues. (can't handle the SOTU sounds)

I think this is something they should have known about when I first gave them details about my site but ohh well. I am sure they all say it's no problem at first just to land the contract.

My site requires at least 4-5 gigs of space and bandwidth must not be an issues concidering all the streaming and downloads that are done. Personalized e-mails are a must.

We are also looking for a FLASH specialist to maintain and edit our site. Someone local would be great.

Any suggestions?

Am I alone here?

My main issue here is "bandwidth". I have already dealt with friends who have their web server at home but when it came down to it, bandwidth was an issue.

I don't want SOTU to be like a test or beta for someone who just started (not saying any of your friends fall in this category). We need someone who can resolve our bandwidth issue.

I will contact everyone listed and get more details.

Thanks for the info guys. Keep them coming.

obby have them use mod_throttle and throttle yoru downloads to a certain number of kb/s .. that way it won't be insane usage of bandwidith.

OK, sent him an e-mail but it seems like he can not help me.

His reply:

Obby,

Thank you for your recent inquires into hosting your site with CompServPro. We would be unable to host such a site with any of our current plans. Here is a insert from our terms of service and AUP

“Music Files

Customer may not with out permission have sound/video files in any format (MP3, ASX, ASF, RA, RAM , QTV etc.) due to the high rate of illegal transfer of copy written material. Even with permission, there is a 5 file maximum on all audio and video files and each file must be smaller than 5 MB due to the demands they place on the server.†Click here to see full TOS.

CPU Usage

Sites may not use extreme unwarranted CPU usage. This includes usage of "heavy" scripts or Flash/shockwave files. By heavy we mean scripts that place consistent high demands on the server. This includes but is not limited to web traffic management scripts, traffic exchange scripts, surf for hits sites as well as large advertising management scripts or proxy server scripts. No single site may consume 30% of CPU usage for a sustained period of time. Click here to see full TOS

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1- My site is all FLASH

2- My site is all MP3's

Any other suggestions before I go crazy??????

I dont know what you are willing to spend but bandwidth isn't cheap.

The days of unlimted bandwidth are long gone and you will pay for the true amount you use now.

Any place that says unlimited bandwidth will A) be out of business and just piss you off in a few months B) start throttling your bandwidth or C) start charging you

You could always look at doing a colocation where you put your own machine in a rack at a huge data center and working out an agreement with them and maybe get cheaper rates. This is usually just left to really compitent unix people though.

I wish there was an easy way but there isn't anymore.

For years I got away with uncapping my cable modem to get a full 10mbit line to my house but as bandwidth increased in the peering agreements they started cutting off people uncapping modems if they didnt reset the config file after a warning

Good luck in your search
