acclubs Posted May 17 Report Share Posted May 17 just trying to spread the word.this is idiotic. prices come down only when supply is greater than demand (or in the case of oil...the anticipation that oil supply will be greater with peace in the mideast) and the assumption of infinite supply capabilities is present. What you are doing is trying to create an excess supply by reducing the demand....but what you dont have is the assumption that supply capabilities are infinite with the oil industry. A reduction in demand will easily be met with a reduction in supply. Then they reduce supply...and over the long haul demand is constant (1 day drought on May19th will be met with long lines at the pump on the 20th). So in the end, supply is reduced but demand hasnt really changed. This means prices will go up (high demand for less supply). So.....your plan here is really going to raise gas prices. So not buying gas on a single date would not do much, if everyone still drives the same amount they would on that day. Cuz they are gonna still going to make up for the gas they used up on May 19th, on a day other then the 19th, unless everyone did not touch their cars on that day. On the other hand, it could work by drivers making a statement to oil companies, forcing them to increase in the refining of crude oil into gasoline and also using other tactics to decrease the price of gas. But then again there are other factors other then supply and demand that go into the price of gas, (a.k.a. threat of terrorism) which could act as a premium on the price of crude oil, some analysts say it raised the price of a barrel of crude oil by as much as 5-10 dollars per barrel. We lose one of our soldiers daily for oil....way too much as far as I'm concerned.One day isnt going to do SHIT!! Besides, other countries are purchasing in mass (whether they need it or not), just to keep driving up prices. Boycotting gas for one day isn't what will change oil companies profits. . . Using mass transportation and buying more fuel efficient cars is much more effective than just pushing back the day you refill your car with gas. Who are we trying to send a message to anyway? Are they really going to care if we don't buy gas for a day??? I can see it now come Thursday they'll be sent a terrific message that oil consumption has skyrocketed to an all-time high. . . . WHAT IS THE PURPOSE? right? cause everyone is still buying it.. and just as much.. the profit they loose on the 19th they will just make up in double on the surrounding days??
