mdc78
I used to go there to hear the music cause they had great overseas DJs spinning every friday. They woudl change it up...I feel like they have a ll these never made it djs from NY spinning every other friday???Half these guys are the old Exit friday djs. What happened to Shitoshi Tomie, and these other guys???? No wonder why it is dead now.Such a dissoppointment, Promoters becoming cheap and owners getting residents, it doesnt work, what made spirit is the different talent of over sea DJ's spinning every other weekend. Changes the scean.....Noone wandts to hear Vicious, Drapper, Capello.....train wrecks.....Look at the top 100 DJ's in the world and book them......Not these locals or spirit wont have a friday party anymore.Just my opinion ( Comming from a promoter who ran clubs during the expo/tunnel days. )P.S. No affence to these other guys spinning. But every croud who goes for the music wont go there. Its not about the sceen and getting fucked up anymore.....I think its all about the music lately...so why not have DJ's who we can only hear spin once or twice a year, wouldnt that be a draw????...I can hear Vicious spin in NJ at a 200 person lounge in CT. Or Drapper spin at a record store in Brooklyn, or Cappella spin .........well who knows.....Point is What ever happened to Tomie, Lawder, Van dyke....why cant we book them...at least Avalon trys... mdc78
they got rid of the promoters? You know this is why I stoped, i am not saying who I am but i have around, fortunately i have a career now but whe I was doinging it Owners loved promoters, then promoters spread like cockroaches and everyone became one (i even thing my dog became one). But owners get greedy and fridays will be done, if i was avalone i would take advantage. Like holloween, I would like to hear Felix the House Cat different ten then shit I usually hear. jpdoub
I just read Robbie Rivera spinnin there November 12 at Spirit.Maybe they are going back to that idea. I dont mind the mix of local djs and oversea djs every other Friday to vary it up..Robbie Rivera at Spirit back in May was one of my highlights for the year. Hope it goes through

djgaryj
you have to give respect to the NY established and upcoming dj/producers in the scene......these guys have followings and they are CONTRIBUTING to the scene what they feel is good music...i don't understand how people shit on people who do what they love and share it with others when the club scene really needs help...booking all top 100 dj's is great, however i bring up an simple question. How do u think those top 100 dj's got so big?it's all about love and respect....djgaryjordan
djaldo
sup fellas, Everyone has a good point but these guys that are up and coming dj/producers are just trying to become one of those 100 top djsI'm saying this cause I'm one of them .I love the music!!!!I'll be spinning at spirit this friday and hope to do the nyc scene some justice .I dont expect everyone to love what I play but I'm gonna play what I play and try and rock the house. mitchmartin
NEWSFLASH :NONE of the djs spinning at spirit will ever amount to diddly-pooh.there are great local djs and the owner had an opportunity to book themas well as some more affordable overseas guys, but backed awayfrom his hippie theory of "growing" a great club and turned to the Wu - Tang's theory ( C.R.E.A.M) .the owner had so many chances to do the right thing - but went the ktu route and everything he he preached about has gone out the window.it is what it is a dump and a place to go get cracked out listening to pots and pans. Because dj's from all over the place would spin there on friday night. Not these no named DJ's whos friends get on the complist and fill the room up. No offence. The draw is the name of the DJ and the name brings the girls and the girls brings the guys and the guys brings the drugs!!!! lolIt jsut sucks, At least Avalon has FElix the Housecat spinning this SAt instead if JP who is starting to become a dissoppointment cause everythign he plays sounds like when i was retarted at SF back in 2001.Nothign different, trendy. I am 27 I spun in club all over NYC, I promoter for 7 years and probably most of u were on my guestlist, but now being out of it all and having a steady carrer for 2 years, it just all seems to be an over publisized, cluttered sceen with the same people and the same music and the same old $300 dollars a night DJais. This sucks I need to go to South Beach, at least Spaace and MAntion has lawder, and Corsten, and different sounds every week. Guest distort909
enough already..................I for one am sick of the overseas talant & sick of the NYC resident.the over seas talent that comes here is the same that plays at all the clubs. no one new comes in cause the club doesnt want to take the chance of losing money.people fuck the 100 dj list. its all bullshit...................... go out & reserch on your own.......................go to www.wattsmusic.com every week they have like 300 new releases.........if you want to know who is producing what dont let some one else tell you listen for yourself. The Dj's i like are most likely not on lists.as for the NYC Resident there are DJ's that can hold it the fuck down.Hector romeroGonzoDanny T "Kidding"JP - I went a couple of times & he had me dancing............i can listen to these people play all night ............ why its called variety in their music.I hate Ikon but maybe thats becasue all that i saw on the main floor was borustodeath & drapper PUKE!I liked all the other rooms though.............. why casue i liked the music better & all my friends were with me.opinions are like assholes.................. everyone has them.
