Before the Wild Card came into effect, a team had to win their fucking division just to make the playoffs. In the NFL a team can make the playoffs with a .500 record, for Christ's sake. When was the last time a .500 team made the playoffs in baseball? Also, 12 teams make the playoffs in football, whereas only 8 make it in baseball.
