Shopping

What do you think of the shopping in Vegas? For some people the shopping is a big draw to vegas - they either do the nightclub trip or the shopping trip.

Considering that LA's outlets have really in the last 4 years exceeded in quality anything in the market, maybe we are spoiled here.

What do you think about the shopping in Vegas? The casinos' high end stores? or the outlets?

I see a lota of improvement to be made on the level/caliber of merchandise carried in the Casinos' high end stores. Having stepped into the same stores on Rodeo drive in LA or elsewhere, their shelves, sometimes, are bit too sparse with not enough selection to keep me in the store looking.

The shopping in Las Vegas is pretty amazing. Everything I need is here: Armani Exchange, Banana Republic, Urban Outfitters. And you don't have to drive all over an area the size of some states to get what you want either. The great shopping here is bookended by Mandalay Place and the Fashion Show Mall, a mere 3 or so miles apart. Very few cities can claim a better shopping scene than we have here.

We're mainly going for the nightlife and pool lounging but we'll do a little shopping too I imagine. There's a feather store and a store that sells stuff for showgirl outfits that several of us will be spending lots of time at. It's that kind of shopping we're interested in- stuff you can't get anywhere else.

The place you're talking about, is that by the Mandalay hotel you mean?

Mandalay Place connects Mandalay Bay and Luxor.

These days, even Denver has the vast majority of shops you find in Vegas. We even have a Ferrari dealer. :snicker:

Aside from being a magnet for the kind of people that love to spend all day shopping no matter where they are, I think the folks most drawn to Vegas for shopping are those from parts of the country that feel lucky just for having a Gap open nearby... in other words, those that live a few hours' drive (or more) from a city with more than half a million people.

I'd bet you could say the same thing about people who go to Vegas purely for gambling, strippers/hookers, dining, shows, sitting by the pool, playing golf, whatever. It's one of the things that makes LV so amenable to so many; you're guaranteed to have easy access to something that isn't so convenient back home. Then mix in the fact that it's usually of high quality... hell, it's a wonder that the town existed purely on gambling and shows for so damn long.

The formula is being copied.

We have a place (that I wanta hit up) Casino Morango (sp) that is a stone's throw to Palm Springs here (about 2 1/2 hour drive from LA) ... has incredibleeeeeee outlets next door and is starting to throw huge pool parties on weekends ... some 18 and over.
