nomembername
Tao is an upscale Asian/Fusian restaurant on 58th Street...I've never gone there just for drinks althought the bar is always crowded with good looking people but I always just assumed they were waiting to be seated for eat. Couldn't tell you about what type of music. Food was great...I love it there. Are we talking about the same place even?
karisma
Tao's a little bit on the pricey side, but it serves amazing sushi and good drinks! the decor of the place is impressive too. Def a place to check out if you'd like something a bit more upscale.

It has a lounge, restaurant, and nightclub????

maxpetersky
I never been to TAO, but everyone I know who tried it said it wasn't worth the hype. You can find similar loungy / sushi / asian fusion places in you look on newyork.citysearch.com that don't require reservations. And sushi isn't all that great either. nomembername
why would you comment on something you've never been to?
maxpetersky
I am rarely mistaken about places I actually go to, because I have many friends who make mistakes of going to crapy places and then share with me. Just thought I'd pass the word along
dialectics
I was there when it first opened - for the bar, not the restaurant. the decor was amazing, with the giant statue and rice paper caligraphy on the high ceiling. the music was progressive hip-hop, not bad for the atmosphere. the vibe was ok - too many people who thought they were trendy, and way too many suits for my taste. i don't know if it changed after it was on "sex in the city".
