foxylady69
it used to be the bi-polar drug of choice a long time ago, but if somebody has been on lithium for 20 years, they are not gonna change over his meds just to keep up with the times. weyes
My uncle is on lithium. what do u mean its hardy uaed anymore. I know someone that deals with mad lithium psych ward freaks on a daily basis.lithium isn't used much anymore because it has more side effects than the newer drugs and its users' blood has to be monitored closely. if the newer drugs don't work on a patient, docs will prescribe lithium, but it's generally a last resort, these days. weyes
I know people on Lithium... what do they use instead now?as mentioned above, depakote is approved and widely used, but often anticonvulsants are paired with antipsycotics and antidepressants to treat bipolar disorder... most patients are on more than one medication. combinations may include seroquel, lamictal, topamax, zyprexa, paxil, and wellbutrin, to name a few.but there are also a few types of bipolar disorder. none of this is easily dealt with. it can take years to figure out the right cocktail for a patient.
