A Tale of Happiness at Avalon

Hey everyone! boy did my friends and I have a blast last night at Ferrys' last performance at Avalon. We got there at apprx. 12 a.m., they had the will call going through the entrance where Spider club is got in quick, headed to the bar got a drink, hit coat check and the night began. Very mixed crowd, but for the most part very cool people and good vibes in the crowd. Second Sun was good, but when Ferry came on the crowd went wild, that dancefloor was jammed, but no worries we were all in the mix, and everyone was giving love. I am glad I got to see Ferry tear it up. "rock your body" oh yeah!

glad you had fun, sancib :D ! i'll tell ya, if you head straight for the dancefloor and stay there, your chances of having a good time at avalon/avaland are much better. if your ability to ignore the asshole phonies and g'd out middle-aged couples that are there is better than mine, your chances of having fun skyrocket. i just don't think i can do it. i'm jealous, though, that you got to see ferry; i really do love his work.

Best trick is....close your eyes. It always amazes me how easy it is ignore the people on the dance floor that are just standing there when your eyes are closed. Though as a girl you might need a guy around to run interference from all the creeps that will randomly jump on ya.

I always dress up like a freak at the Avalon, hipsters usualy avoid me like the plague and everyone else usualy gets a kick outta it. I even bought goggles that only allow me to see shapes and forms so I don't have to keep my eyes closed the entire night.

After so many of these avalon threads .... I can understand how flat out rude or discourteous people around you can affect your clubgoing experience... but I do still not understand how if you are going SOLELY for the music, and to be one with the music, how the demographics of people around you is an issue.

well it is like this... when you are in the crowd and people bump into you there is one of 3 personalities behind it. 1) person totally off their nut on drugs, which I can ignore, cause lets face it who hasnt been that person at least once ;) 2) nice person just trying to navigate the crowd, note this person is usually saying exuse me, smiling or even giving some love as they go by and 3) the a**hole with a look on their face like move out of my way/watch where I am going. It is being around arrogant people like that which kills my vibe. I believe that our "rave" culture, for lack of better term, was built on type #2. People who are there for the music, and the vibe, do for the most part behave this way. It is unfortunate that our celebration of music and soul is becoming trendy. The wrong message has been sent, it only shows us as a drug scene. What I dont understand is why cant they party and stay in their own "Look at me I am the sh*t" club they came from.

I dont know l a l a t e maybe it is just reverse eliteism? :what:

one does, from time to time, have to leave the dancefloor to go to the bathroom, the bar, get some air outside, etc., and a lot of the time the people on the dancefloor aren't so nice, either. we talk a lot about good vibes here; bad vibes permeate just as easily.

i often do this at clubs, not really on purpose - it just happens when i'm really listening to the music. problem is, my eyes are often forced open abruptly when i get bumped by a k-head or some fag grabs my butt.

I even bought goggles that only allow me to see shapes and forms so I don't have to keep my eyes closed the entire night.

i'm not sure if i'd be more scared of the G-d out middle-aged asian men or some chick in psychedelic ski goggles. tough call.

I could comment on the people at clubs, but it various on the quality of people the promoter brings in. Have seen everything from a gazillion fat porno photographers to some of the classiest people in beverly hills. I'm the one who has posted most of the LA photo galleries a few people look at from time to time. Let me know what clubs and events are good.

I'm sure my outfits have freaked out more than few people at a time, but at the same time I usualy can't go more than 10 minutes without someone wanting to take their picture with me, so I say it is all good.

I gotta agree with sancib, why can't they just go to the Standard or something. I get pissed at them because they are going to a dance/tech club to stand around. If people wanna do that "look cool" shit, fine with me, just do it somewhere else and quit dragging me down. I'm not sure if the majority of the people at the Avalon have any clue about the DJ they are seeing.

So yea, I dress like a raver for the most part, but it is a rave culture, look at the history of where the Avalon talent played, way back in the start of their careers. And Yes the word rave has become to mean this nasty party of over-drugged kids listening to hard music, but that's the media's fault. The word used to mean something great.

So I'll take the chick in the psychedelic ski goggles any time over a drugged out Asian; atleast she is there to dance and have a good time and not just cause the drugs and the music make her feel funny.
