Just a few thoughts

I'm writing this to let out my frustration that I have regarding NYC clubs and federal laws... Here it goes:

I was born in New York but I grew up in Europe so it was a normal thing for me to go out with my friends on weekends for the last 3 years. Clubs in Europe are great, it is one big peaceful party every night even though it is 18+ sometimes even 16+ to a certain extend. Now that I moved back to New York 2 weeks ago, I wanted to go out last weekend like I usually do. I have to say I'm 20 so there was my first problem already. What club to go to if I'm not 21. I never had that problem in Europe so I went online and found out that webster hall had 18+ party's on Saturdays. BIG MISTAKE.... Not only did I have to pay 30 $ to get in, no they asked me to pay 10$ so I could re enter whenever I had a smoke!!! I was shocked but alright, I had payed 30 bucks already. I checked out the club a little bit and noticed that the club smelled like the freaggin bathroom at my university... next bummer..

So I went downstairs for a while to dance and then went upstairs to check out Z100. Sure enough they replayed the same exact songs as downstairs and not only once. As they stopped the hip hop break to play some electronic music I was so happy and thought I would hear some nice house music but nope they played 3 stupid trance songs and then started to play what seemed to be the most commercialised BS I've ever heard.

Also I wanted to say that I guess It is correct that there are stupid little kids who can't hold their liquor and stumble around the Chelsea club scene but how come that in a country where you can go to war with 18 drive a car with 18 you can't buy beer ?! In Europe you can buy beer with 16 and liquor with 18 and I don't see kids laying on the street in front of clubs.

OK so are there any DECENT clubs in NYC that I could get into without getting a pathetic fake ID? Thanks for reading I'm curious what you guys think.

Chris

well i have some advice if your under 21 and want to party with the big boys. When approaching the door guy, if your a chick flash some tit or even show some gash. If your a dude...........well hey..........sucking dick isnt gay unless you enjoy it. Maybe ill see ya around, dont be afraid to say hi.

I understand that you're just being sarcastic and I know you're the funny one here on the forum :D but I think some people actually think that way. Like we're the big boys because we can party in 21+ clubs. I gotta tell you I've been to plenty of clubs from Ibiza to Germany, Italy France and so on. I think making alcohol not available to 18+ makes the whole thing worse because first of all the under 21 people aren't as used to drinking alcohol. Like in europe for example people go out have dinner and drink a couple glasses of beer or wine and they will not get fucked up as easily by drinking a couple of beers in a club like some of the chelsea kids do.

I think the young kids like to drink because it's something special to them like a dare thing to do because it's not always available just like drugs...

The drinking age is a sad truth that you'll just have to live with. Doesn't make any sense in my opinion. I also grew up in Europe and I've seen how not having or enforcing a drinking age doesn't lead to kids abusing alcohol - quite the contrary. But I don't get to make the laws. My advice is find the nights that are 18+ (Pacha and Crobar both have them and they won't be nearly as crappy as that shithole Webster Hall). Also, there are more underground parties (like Rubulad in Brooklyn) that don't check ID. Aside from these options, either get a fake ID or be patient for a year. This is basically a puritanical country and you're lucky you live in NYC and not some place where it's illegal to buy liquor on Sundays even if you're 21.

Growingup that is sooooo wrong lol but your right you basically have to ask yourself is it worth it? j/k Europe's culture and way of living is so much better, They are'nt as uptight about laws as America.

Webster Hall was a bad intro to NYC night scene. lol. Go to more underground places. Crobar and Pacha are great, b/c they're popular venues. Webster Hall is horrible. lol. Sullivan Room is intimate, so's LOVE. There's also "Lesouk", which has House music sessions every Sunday beginning @1pm....free sangria 1-4.......

Webster Hall. You poor baby. :blank:

I went to Rubulad a few months ago and it was the craziest thing I've ever seen...I was very banged up by the time I got there, but it seemed pretty cool. Chris, you definitely got a horrible impression by going to Webster Hall. I've never been b/c I was warned, but I'm sure you would have a much better time @ Pacha or Crobar on a Friday. Still not as good as their 21+ nights, but probably the best you can do until you turn 21.

you cant base NYC scene on a staple tourist attraction, only reason WH is still open is because it is flocked to by the mass amounts of people who don't know any better. I suspect they have been open because people who come to town have the reasoning like "oh its been open for 10+ years, it MUST be good! lets check it out!"

In the mean time I checked out Pacha. Pacha as a club is hot no doubt but I guess I went the wrong night because there was a private Asian party and honestly I've never ever in my life seen so many posers and wangstas. All the little "rich" kids with momies american express card buying bottles, talking on the phone in a club where the music is bouncing.. I mean come on who seriously talks on the phone in the middle of a club. I wouldn't even care but those kids where blocking the damn dance floor ;)

I guess the next thing to check out would be Crobar on a friday night..
