I've heard the 'Miami Is Over' line so many times since I moved here it's getting tired. The image of Miami and widespread knowledge of it in the global consciousness is far far greater than that of Lauderdale or Hollywood, and with events like the VMA's, Fashion Week and WMC happening here will continue to be. It would take a huge marketing push and large investment on the part of Broward to change that.

Miami is so done . . . once they put Pottery Barn and the GAP on Lincoln Road it was done . . .

Perfect example is Space . . . much much better there a year ago . . .

How so? I'd say it is consistent if not better.

You know me though, I think Downtown is gonna be the next thing for nightlife in Miami-Dade county.

I'll agree with you on the Lincoln Road statement. It's just an overpriced outdoor mall nowadays. I don't shop on the beach if I can help it.

fashion week is in like every city, i think it's in nyc this week. plus the avg joe has not a clue about it. the vmas will most likely not return to miami and wmc is such a nothing event in the scheme of things..

but keep trying to defend your decision to skip broward... when lp books pvd at the hard rock will you give in and support it on cj???

i think you will.....

You're probably right - if the clubs in Hard Rock turn out to be strong venues we'd probably cover them, as they'd be likely to interest people and tourists staying in Miami. Doesn't change that Broward cities are a long way from competing with Miami on a global level.

True enough. Lest we forget that several major award shows have happened here in the past year.

On the level of dance music, Miami definitely isn't "done", even though each year some dork starts a rumour of the WMC moving to some hellhole in the desert or what-have-you.

As for normal people vs crackheads? Well when I go out I'd rather deal with crackheads, it makes life a bit more interesting, and my mental instability and rampant alcoholism go unnoticed in the face of a crackhead hurricane. I deal with normal people during daylight hours and frankly it bores me...in a away. Sometimes it is fun to observe the social dynamics of your average person from Middle America.

my jolly 67 something year old aunt lives in Broward....there is no way in hell, i'd come out of town to go out anywhere in that vicinity.......and if PVD plays Hard Rock, that's cool -that means all the trance fans will drive up to see him there, more room for me to dance with the crackheads...they're a bag of fun i tell you ;D

One of he hallmarks of the WMC is not having to drive much of anywhere. I don't see the WMC crowd wanting to haul ass all the way up there for much of anything.

However, if something worthwhile happens up there, and I mean really worthwhile...Broward local events don't account for much in my book, I'm sure I'll trek up, and I have done so before (Roland, etc..) for certain events.

djs are desprate these days, they will play any gig they get.. broward is no exception... i know plenty of top jocks that got no gigs for the wmc and those who did, it does nothing for their career, so might as well get paid while you are down here and play in broward. <<< i'll be pitching this idea to a few broward clubs come march... they will go for it, i know so

There's always exceptions of course. But any decent DJ worth their salt would rather have Miami.

In the end it is the clubs, of course. You know how things are down here.

Broward isn't immune either. Especially Broward where the crowd is largely ignorant to DJs and dance music in general. A clubowner up there fully knows that he or she can book some local trainwreckin' schlep for $100 and free drinks for him and his friends, and still clean up. Booking a big time DJ would only hurt their bottom line, even if they grabbed one of your NYC/NJ DJs.

I'm ignorant to the ins and outs of NYC DJs, but I did see that crobar had DJ Boris on the lineup for this past weekend, even though it got cancelled. No idea if he sucks or not, but the upcoming lineups of crobar and Space (Junior Jack at crobar next month...) show they are looking beyond the usual suspects.

boris, use to be good, but explain to me why voodoois bookking og, roland, hex hector etc.... your theory falls apart unless you can tell me why they spent bucks on hex and other djs.. according to you, they don't draw and cost the club money, well then why do they book these jocks?

OG and Roly are usually there with 93.1 ... not sure, but they probably get financed somewhat by the station. Not sure about Hex. Hex plays Miami too, largely on the gay circuit though.

Well in the end I really don't see these or any Broward venues posing a serious threat to Miami for awhile. At the most it'll keep the Broward folk where they belong ;D

Yeah if you're a WASP from Middle America with too much money and too little good sense. Vegas is for the VH-1 generation.

Bravo for Vegas though, they prove the old adage that a fool and his (or her) money are soon parted. The casinos know this, and their investors and operators walk away with more money in a day than you or me make in a decade.

Vegas might be the #1 party spot overall, but as far as general dance-music oriented nightlife is concerned, New York and Miami easily beat out Las Vegas and just about anywhere else in the country. The Vegas people come here, see what the Miami clubs do, and then sanitize and bourgeiosify it for the consumption of Middle America. And they're successful at it.

DING DING DING! WE HAVE A WINNER! THIS IS EXACTLY MY PROBLEM WITH SPACE AND OG, THE SHIT THEY PLAY INSIDE OF SPACE IS SO MUCH DARKER THEN THE STUFF THEY PLAY OUTSIDE OF SPACE. OG ROCKS ANY CLUB OUTSIDE SPACE, INSIDE SPACE IT'S BLA AT BEST.

I doubt any jock can rock a club like og, but inside space, he's just sounds the same as all the others.

It depends on the dj. Roly plays amazing at space in the main room (when he plays there) and though I have not been on the patio in a long time, usually rocks it there. His sound is never too dark for me, but that's not to say I don't prefer his sets outside of space. I have seen roly play nikki beach, life, and voodoo and all have been amazing.

O.G. it depends for me. Sometimes at space I just watch him play and think nobody can do it better then him, but other times its just the same sound all night and not much risks in the set. I loved his opener for danny tenaglia at wmc 2003, classic night at the old space, and plenty of other times. But the majority of the time I do not make it out to hear him play in space cause a lot of times its a big miss for me. At life, didn't enjoy his sets cause too much hippity hop but at voodoo and mia lounge his sets have always been great.

The other residents are doing good rocking that room with the "dark" sound, but I myself just don't like it. Cedric is doing a great job with the room there, but its the same thing with OG when its a miss for me. It sounds the same all night and I don't mean to diss on him by saying he is always dissapointing in there as I have been one of the few on here that used to post saying how surprised I was with some of his sets at crobar on thursdays or saturdays, but I have just not liked his space sets. Cue, I can't stand his sets at space, but I've heard many good things about him and plan on hearing him play one day outside of there.

I think all the residents at space have the talent, but they need to have some more variety in the sets. Reason why roly is my fav. there is cause of that. And don't get me wrong its not just the residents that play better outside of space cause I have seen it with danny howells and with sharam of deep dish. To be fair though there are certain djs I think space is the only place fitting for and thats where they play their best. Sander for example I can't pick a better place for him to play then the terrace.

Hopefully didn't piss off 2 many of you local djs with this post, but I just wanna see some variety in the sets once in a while and I only get to see that outside of space and is why I head to broward more as of late to catch you guys play up there. I should probably not comment about this since I don't dj and you guys probably know what your doing, but just saying what I myself would prefer from you guys.
