Guest JMT
has anyone seen this show on Discovery? i think this is my new favorite show. the host is fucking nuts. he makes Steve Irwin look like Mr. Rogers.the premise is that in every episode the host (a former british special forces soldier) gets literally dropped via parachute into a different type of wilderness and the camera follows him around for days and he does whatever it takes to survive and find his way out. he only takes a canteen, the clothes on his back, sometimes a small knife, and/or a flint rock.i've seen a couple episodes so far, and the guy is an encyclopedia of survival. he eats whatever he can find and even resorted to drinking his own urine while in the Austrailian outback! V. Barbarino
Haven't missed one show yet! Great show.. I think the Everglades is the worst place to be stuck on this planet so far. I'm starting to digg Ice Road Truckers as well, you should check that one out.
Guest tres-b
Great show!!!If you havent seen it, watch it!!!I have seen nearly all of them but not the Everglades. I have to catch that one. I cant think of a more miserable place to be dropped.

I was able to see the Everglades episode and was shocked on how fucked someone would be if they were to be stuck on the Everglades.I never knew there was quick sand there or bears.. V. Barbarino
The guy is fantastic shape, his upper body strength is out of this world. When he was in the outback he did a one arm pull up on a tree!Costa Rica vs The Glades is a good one, but I give the nod to the Glades because for me, I hate not being able to see what's in the water, and knowing there are gators in there would make me cry like a bitch! At least in the jungle he could find a small clearing and set up shop.

Guest coach
I like it okay, and I used to think it was pretty rugged, but when I saw the Everglades episode I knew the show is total Bullshit. In the first place, he's out there with at least a small camera crew, if not a full one. He does like Steve Erwin did and overplays the danger. As far as the Everglades goes, fuck, I could survive for a month in the Everglades with a toothpick and flip flops. Plus, you couldn't walk more than a few miles without hitting a road or an Indian reservation. The water in the Everglades is some of the most pure on the planet (aside from the pollutants that we put into it), so any BS about not being able to see what's in it is nonsense. Alligators are largely non-aggressive. Hell, Annette literally stepped over the tail of an 8-footer one time, and it just got up and walked away. Crocodiles are rare as hell, and while they are rather aggressive, they won't attack a person unless you threaten them or their young.I mean, obviously, he's never in any real danger. The producers who are putting up the cash to put the show on are not going to let their prize host go down. Like I said, I kind of liked the show before I saw the Everglades episode, now I'm really disenfranchised with it. Sorry if I burst any bubbles. It is still kind of fun to watch. ryan2772
the point of the show is to show you how to survive if you find yourself in a situation like that. it doesn't matter that there's a whole camera crew with him...he's not trying to prove he's a badass. Guest CGM54
It is a small camera crew and not a whole production team. Also, they are not allowed to interact with him unless his life is in immenent danger. The water in the Everglades is pure not clear. You cannot see anything in those swamps. And yes you probably could hit some road within twenty miles in any direction, the problem is to keep from walking in circles.I think the worst areaso far was in Africa Lions,Elaphants. Rhinos plus the heat. I cannot believe he squeazed elephant shit over his head to extract water to drink. Looking forward to the Sahara episode. New episodes air Fridays at 9.Oh yeah Ice Road Truckers does kick ass.
Guest coach
Heh, well, I'm not gonna argue Everglades lore with you guys except to say I bet I've been in it more than most people that live here.I just don't believe that some of the stuff he is doing is as tough as he makes it out to be, otherwise it wouldn't be good TV. That shit on the frozen mountainsides does suck, though!
Guest tres-b
When he was walking out of the Sierra Nevada Mtns, I noticed that he is seperate from the camera crew at night. In other words, they left a camera w him and a radio. He heard something outside his shelter and ended up calling the crew, and they moved out in the middle of the night. The crew(which seems to be small) does not interact with him. From what I can tell, they have their own supplies(food, h2o, etc.) They document how he deals with the situation he is in.

Guest coach
Check out Les Stroud who show is called Survivorman. He was on Discovery before Man VS Wild came out. He films everything himself no crew. Now there you go. That's the real deal. I've seen that one, and he does do it hardcore, I just couldn't remember the name. I think his problem was that he wasn't as personable as Bear. Or maybe they didn't promote it hard enough. Man Vs Wild TOTALLY stole his premise. Is Survivorman still on?

In my opinion they are both bad ass in their on ways. Bear is an accomplished climber which you can tell in every episode and he does extreme things which Les doesn't do but you have to give Les respect for having to do everything twice when he is out in the wild. Les has to set up his cameras and take the footage. After that he has to go back to pick the camera's up and then lug it back making it twice as hard.
