Shame on you Mansion

Now, Ladies and Gentlemen...

Those of you who know me well, are all too aware that I speak my mind and pull no punches.

I have not posted in ages due to my hectic schedule; but when I was made aware of this incident, I was more than frustrated and disgusted. I absolutely had to make time to post this. This is a lack of professionalism to the highest degree and all ladies who frequent this venue should be forewarned.

I am posting this due to a horrific experience a lady friend of mine and a group of her girlfriends experienced at Mansion. Shame on the security staff, as well as upper management for allowing this insanity.

Now these are not my words, this is exactly what happened as she describes it in the following paragraph.

Avoid Mansion. The security staff is evil...

Recently my girls and I went to Mansion nightclub. We had a great time! We had a VIP table and 10 of my closest friends and family danced the night away. As the night progressed, my friend felt a bit overwhelmed with the music and lights and asked me to join her for a breath of fresh air. We proceeded to the exit and was told if we left, we couldn't come back in. Understanding we went to the bar for a cup of cold water. Another security officer came to us and asked if she wanted to sit down and have him bring her a bottle of water? Obviously she took him on his offer. He took her on his arm and escorted her out. I followed. After what seemed like a maze of long corridors and rooms, we ended up in a room with 5 bouncers and a couch. The only light that lit the room was in the hallway entrance. They asked us for our ID's. My friend showed them hers, and i told them that i had left mine at my table. They said I had to have an ID to be in that room, and that I would have to go back to get it. I obviously told them that I wasn't going to leave my friend there alone so I grabbed her and started to walk out. A bald headed black man stood in my way and told me I now couldn't leave. The rule was that once you entered that room, you couldn't leave. Which to me didn't make sense since they initially asked me to leave and return with ID. I argued that and the man told me to sit down. I told him to get out of my way, that we were brought into this room thinking it was a place where my friend could rest her mind for a second and that my family (my mom and sister) were at our table waiting for us. He pushed me back and i told him not to touch me. I tried my hardest to get through him but he kept pushing me back and even went so far as pushing his elbow into my throat. They kept saying we were intoxicated and couldn't leave, which wasn't true. The situation became worse when Officer Elmore (badge # 467) did nothing to help us. They wouldn't let us back in, they would notify my parents or family, and left us outside to figure out what to do next. I even begged the police officer to help us find my mother and he told us he couldn't do anything and left.

That room is a place where they take girls and only girls who are extremely intoxicated. Fortunately for us, we were both coherant and couldn't take advantage of us, which is probably what set them off and made them so upset. I am asking all the women to please be careful and if at all avoid going to that club. They have been known for this kind of treatment and i never thought it would happen to me. But these people feed off of girls who are vulnerable and not in the company of other men. Party Safe! and spread the word of Mansion nightclub!

Shame on you Mansion!!

wow. I would try to report that cop, or at least call up a news organization like deco drive and report that crap to them. OJ did something similar by forcing the guy to stay in the room and they put charges on him for that. This definitely sounds not legal. Report that incident to the local government.

very shitty situation indeed, but as much as you spread that letter around about Mansion.. the club will still be packed everynight... i know it sucks to say that but what can she do? She needs to report that incident to higher authroities... im sure it will get pushed under the rug but who knows.. if it gets out in the open, maybe more girls will come out saying that the same shit happened to them to make them investigate further. Glad the girls are home in one piece!

This is bull! I’m 100% sure that that is not want happen. I do throw parties at Mansion but I’m not an employee of Mansion or the opium group, I just run one night a week there. I know this room very well as it is the office at mansion. I walk in and out of it many times a night when I do my events. It has a door going in from the inside of the club and one that leads out to the street (which I am sure your friends left out of). You can not get any closer to the street then this room. It has people walking in and out of it all the time, so No security could not take drunk girls in there and do anything wrong to them. It is a place were they take people who cause trouble in the club, were fighting, did something wrong, or are overly intoxicated (which after reading this story I know your friend was). It is also a place they take people if they hurt them self or want to talk to someone about a problem they had. I AM WRITING THIS BECAUSE I HAVE SEEN WAY TOO MANY DRUNK PEOPLE YELL AND CAUSE A SEEN ABOUT THIS. Because they are intoxicated they don’t know what is going on or where they are. Some have asked why they are in a basement even after they open the door to the street to show them where they are. They say they never did anything wrong, but they can’t even stand up. I know the sec at mansion and the ppl that would be trying to talk to your friend in that room. They are all stand up good ppl. You can ask anyone who worked at Mansion. They all know this office and nothing bad happens in there. Ask Chino or Biz or Purple or Colby. It’s a fucking office that has a door right on the street that 20ppl walk in and out every min. I don’t think your friend is a bad person, she was just drunk. I am sure they just wanted her to call it a night. Hints the fact the Cop did not do anything when she talked to him outside the club. If you hate mansion then fine, it’s not for everyone. I agree with that and I never stick up for the club, but as for the people that work there. They are good people. And there was nothing shady going on with this room. I hate when drunk people have problems and act like someone else did them wrong.

I have to agree with Ryan on this one. Having been in this business for as long as I have, (and having been in that room quite a few times), I can tell you that this happens all the time. People get drunk and their perception gets skewed. I'm sure they are great girls but they were drinking hard enough for one to feel sick. Good club security are trained to get them off the floor. The problem is usually that the drunk person doesn't think they're that drunk. I really think it's irresponsible to assume that these guys were about to rape this girl. In fact, I think it's extremely offensive to make that accusation on a public message board with the set of facts laid out here. The security never touched them in a way to suggest that nor did they say anything that would infer that according to your own recounting of events.

Nobody likes getting asked to leave. Nobody ever thinks it's their fault when they are asked to leave. It usually is. Mansion is a quality operation as are all the Opium Group venues. If we were talking about Metropolis maybe.......

All that having been said.........

What do clubs expect to happen when they make people buy sooooooo much booze in the VIP? I mean, really.....the average VIP requires a group of four to buy two bottles of booze in order to get a table. That's half a bottle each....or another way to say it is about twelve drinks each. Is it just me or is that an ass-load of booze.

You werent there. How do you know it is slander? Plus for being drunk she remembered the officer's badge number. So she might have known what was going on. Couldnt you call the cops and say the place stole your stuff? I cant see it being okay that a club has the right to kick you out and keep something like your id on their premises without returning it back to you.

This is an issue that i REALLY think needs to be addressed more. While i understand that the clubs want to make money, their minimum bottle/max ppl per table ratio is unrealistic and downright dangerous. Not to mention criminal. Combined with the fact that you are not allowed to take the remaining booze with you (you paid a 160% markup!!) and that most people don't know that you can leave the bottle for a later date at some places (and pay another exorbitant "recorking" fee) makes it an unfortunate choice.

Most of the people i have seen being too drunk, disorderly and frankly RUDE have been in the VIP. I've heard stories of guys getting wasted, kicked out and then even overcharged because of this exact scenario.

this girl made a complete assumption that they were to get taken advantage of. this is slander, she's making an accusation without any evidence whatsoever of what they "intended" to do to her.

That was my point exactly. Not only that but she admits that she was trying to push past the security guy, which was only a further indication to him that they needed to go. She says that "That room is a place where they take girls and only girls who are extremely intoxicated". Where did she get that info? I've been in that room and I'm no girl. Then she goes on to say that because they didn't get to molest the girls they decided to throw them out. Here's a little known secret in the club world......nobody gets more girls than the security guys. They don't need to set up a rape room.

So, as usual, everyone was wrong but the girl who admits that she was drunk. The club is a rape factory. The security guys are rapist goons. The cops are in on it. GW Bush is the greatest president ever.

As a former bouncer, YOU NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER BRING A FEMALE INTO A ROOM NO MATTER HOW DRUNK SHE IS! You have to get her outside the club and if you feel there is a health issue, you must call the cops.. There is a back door to mansion that leads to the parking lot, she should have been taken out that door.

If you think for one second the chicks at Mansion were more banged up than the chicks at my college club, the #1 party school on the planet at the time according to playboy and a school where pure GHB was LEGAL, then you are ignorant. I delt with more OD's and problems in one weekend than Mansion does all year. Never once would be bring chicks to the "office"... Shame on Mansion for even doing this..

Does LP have his security bring chicks to his "office"??

Fuck no! LP isn't an idiot. In fact, I've seen 39457329485 times at Space chicks passing out, and security gets them out of the club asap.

Shame on Mansion for even putting these chicks in this situation. Also back in 97 at Prive, I had to knock a door down to get to my female friends. The bouncers tried to be tough guys until they understood I wasn't playing around.

Shame on Mansion, don't ever put you, your club or your customers in this situation.

It's about liability. In every reputable club I've been in, all passed-out people are immediately escorted from the premises by a public route. Any drug busts are also conducted in a public manner. That's threefold. Makes the offender feel like a jackass, and also there's plenty of witnesses so things are done by the book. Thirdly, it's a deterrent too.

It's too easy for the perp to cry foul if they're taken to a "private" area, even if nothing happens.

Pure nonsense despite your college experience. By the way, what backwater town did you go to college in?

So that you know, the answer is yes. LP and Space do, in fact, have a security office where people are "processed" before getting thrown out. This processing includes photocopying their ID and giving a manager the opportunity to talk to the person. Mansion would have thrown her straight out if she had been passing out but she wasn't so stop mixing apples and oranges. When the person is passed out there is no debate as to whether they should be tossed. This was not the case and was handled the right way. She was obviuously a mess because she says that the security first approached her at the bar where she was trying to get water. They noticed she was having a hard time and escorted her to a safe room before throwing her out most likely due to the fact that she was a VIP, was still standing and they didn't know if the bill had been paid or if she was with someone important to the venue. It was not one security guy looking to cop a feel. There were witnesses and as far as I can see from her post, nothing inappropriate happened. Of course, she thinks that being thrown out was not appropriate but she's wrong. They asked for ID, which indicates to me that they were simply intending to process her out.

Her post jumps from the room to being outside talking to a cop. What happened in between? Why the selective story telling?

In four years at Shadow Lounge we had the single best security record I am aware of. We never had a lawsuit. Never had a customer complaint about security. Never made an insurance claim. People still comment to me about how wonderful our security staff was. I mention this because our procedure was also to take the customer into an office, give them an opportunity to talk to a manager, document the situation and THEn escort them out. This was the case if they were male or female. The idea is that the security does have to be checked by management instead of having the power to throw people out all on their own.

I think it's safe to say that Mansion knows a lot more about security and the liability associated with it than a guy who bounced for a couple of summers in college at Podunk U.

Hey, we know all nightlife workers are saints, right?

Well, in their defense (you've heard it from me a million times), a lot of these guys and girls get an unfair rap. Being embedded for about a decade now, I've gotten to know a lot of people from sweepers to security to DJ to owner. Sure, there's some evil people out there, but for the most part, your average nightclub worker is just out there to make some decent money, and have a fun job. Talk to them one-on-one or during daylight hours and they're a different person.

Working in the industry, you develop numerous safeguards when you're dealing with the general clubgoing population. You're dealing with drunks, people on drugs, and all sorts of cartoon characters, some of whom can be funny and amusing, some of whom are downright annoying and retarded. I would dare to say that most of the people I dare to call friends work in clubs. And I don't hand out the title of friend very easily. You're either a jerk, an acquaintance, an unknown quantity, or a friend in my book.

Not at all. However, nothing in the post that started this thread indicates that the venue did anything wrong. Yet, the first instincts of most who read it was to agree that something untoward was "about" to happen. Spend some time doing that job and you'll have a new outlook on the subject. The fact is that drunk people, male or female, are a pain in the ass.

I was trained by the NC Swat team. Now in NC, it's clear, Bouncers and security have ZERO rights. They only right they have is to defend themselves, not employees or other customers. I'm not sure about how Florida works, but bouncers are not cops. They can't touch you, they can't force you to show ID, they can't search you, they can't detain you etc. What they can do is call the cops on you.

There is a back door at Mansion, which leads to the parking lot, these girls should have been taken to that hall way and "processed" however Dade is thinking like a man. Women are taught to be vigilant when drinking at clubs and bars. No women would feel comfortable in a dark room with 5 large men. Whether security did nothing wrong is not the point. No women should EVER go into a room intoxicated with a few bouncers. No club should EVER let their employees in a closed room with intoxicated females.

You can't process me, it's against my civil rights, plain and simple. Under the Constitution, I only have to state my name and show ID, but only to a law enforcement officer. THAT IS IT!

Bouncers are not cops, they can't force you to do anything, unless:

1. You committed a crime they can detain you

2. or escort you from the club

And no bouncers can't search you, it's an illegal search and seizure. Bouncers are not trained as cops, ergo they can't act like them.

Federal law trumps Florida law. Mansion should not have brought those girls back to that room. The back hallway is where it should have taken place.

Dade tries to tell me about the sign outside the club, bla bla bla, my law proff once told me, take those signs and toss them out, they are meaningless, we are govern by laws, not signs written by some dumb idiot.
