oh yeah...

i was also mad proud of him that he submitted a design to Naked skateboards of santa cruz, and they actually sent it to him six weeks later, custom made, with a letter thanking him for the thoughfulness of the design. (it involved really clever nose and tail treatments as well as alternating layers of different woods and glues for durability and anti-chip-ness).

you were watching mtv when it launched

i was, but entirely by accident.

i had no idea how significant an event it was at the time.

i was just down in the family/rec. room watching tv late.

i was like 6 or 7 years old, just flipping through

the channels, and saw this weird set and this

guy talking about something "new" and "revolutionary."

then i saw the rocket blast off, then the buggles video.

... only to realize YeARS LaTER that i had

actually witnessed the true birth of mtv.

holy crap i just realized something.

the launch of mtv just about pre-dated the SPACE SHUTTLE.

mtv was born 12:01 a.m on Aug. 1, 1981.

(here's some really detailed history )

the first space shuttle launch, a test,

was at 6 am on April 12, 1981.

( history )

so it's quite possible the folks at mtv had intented to use space shuttle launch footage but were unable to obtain rights from nasa so soon after it had occured.

Oh and remember wearing tight jeans, but folding over the bottoms and then rolling them up. Then wearing two different pairs or those slouch socks.

Girls curling your bangs and then spraying so much hairspray on them that they turn stiff and nothing you do can mess them up.

And remember those button up shirts that were longer in the back than they were in the front.

The tube braclets with the water and glitter in them.

Trading stickers was the cool thing to do. (I had so many stickers books)

Jelly shoes.

Oh my gosh I could go on for days.
