Imagine by the time you are twenty you're working as a Mixer at LA's premier hip-hop station. Imagine during a big station concert, you see a legend backstage, one you'd like to get a picture with. You approach the legend, but security a guy who looks like he could swallow bears makes an arm bar and says no way! The legend sees this and tells his arm-barring-bear-swallowing-security, It's cool. Imagine the legend asks your name and when you tell it to him he says, Wow, I listen to your show every day. This is the stuff of a music lovers dream. This is the stuff of DJ Vice's life. The encounter happened with none other than Dr.-I-make-classics-Dre. As the story goes, the next week Vice and his boss at Power 106 visited Dre's house to preview tracks of his then upcoming album: Chronic 2001. The listening session didnÕt include any other music types, just Dre, his son, and his wife. Talk about memories! Although Vice didn't go straight to such grand times, he says it's been music as far back as I can remember. A good place to start is when he was a record-collecting-music-loving-eleven-year old or maybe a better place is a couple years after, when he began shadowing a family friend who DJ'd. When Vice was thirteen, the friend bought him his first turn tables and told him he'd have to pay them off by being his assistant. I'd have to carry his crates, set up the speakers and lights, run errands, says Vice. It was grunt work yes, but it led, two years later, to his first solo gig. Soon the word spread about the kid who could mix and keep a party going like few others. Vice started DJing weddings, house parties, anywhere he could make a name for himself. Around 95 he landed an internship with some big name radio veterans: The Baka Boyz. With the Baka Boyz Vice paid more dues, work that eventually landed him an on-air tryout for Power 106. Vice, already a confident mixer by then, wowed the Power execs so much they offered him a job on the spot. Mixing and scratching aren't Vice's only assets. He's also a DJ who is comfortable crossing genres. I've never been just a hip-hop head, he says. Im a big house head, dance music, rock. And oh yeah, there's another important asset: Vice's crew: SKAM artist. The it-isn't-a-party-unless-SKAM-is-spinning crew. The crew that amounts to a brotherhood of some of the best and hottest DJ's anywhere. It's not just DJ Vice, he says. It's DJ Vice the SKAM Artist. Mixing, spinning crossing genres, holding membership in a mean crew: Vice is a triple threat. Vice is also a passport stamp collector: London, Paris, Australia, Germany, Japan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, the Philippines, Mexico, CanadaÉ these are just some of the stops on what is shaping up as the DJ Vice World Party Tour. Passport stamps notwithstanding Vice might be most at home in the city where they sleep less and party more. After radio I really wanted to take this to another level, Vice explains. I saw the whole Las Vegas club scene emerging, the multi million dollar venues. Over the last five years Vice has held residences at VegasÕ premier party spots: Body English (Hard Rock Hotel) Pure (Caesars Palace) and LAX (Luxor). These days hes the go to guy at Tao and Lavo, where on any given night you can catch him spinning while celebs like (as happened recently) Jay-Z, Usher, Diddy, and Young Jeezy emcee. Although the Vegas star power is nice, for Vice it isn't everything. Vegas is a big accomplishment because it's an international spot, he says. ÒYou can have someone from Nebraska, standing next to someone from London, standing next to someone from New York. Chances are while those people are standing in enough light Vice is checking out their kicks. Vice is also a sneaker head extraordinaire, so much so that he partnered to open CRSVR (Crossover) the hottest sneaker store in Santa Barbara. Explains Vice, Some people may think I named it that because of basketball. But I named the store after the EMPD song. He goes on, I always associated shoes with hip hop from back when Run DMC was rhyming about their Adidas. Whether it's collecting kicks, mixing on Power 106, lending artist like Timbaland, Kanye, or Pharrell creative input, whether it's spinning at the biggest world bashes, or spinning in the city where no one seems to sleep, whether it's working on his own music I'm picky so I haven't put anything out yet.ÓÑno matter what Vice is doing, you can bet it's definitely not considered work. I've never had a job in my life, Vice says. Music isn't a job, it's a hobby, which has become a source of income.

TRANZIT 006: featuring the sounds by: MARIO FLOREK vs COOK DNA PHYSICAL LAW TWITCHIN SCRATCH at Vision Say "PURE" at the door for: -No Cover before 12- -Reduced Cover after 12- RSVP Now For Bottle Specials!!! The TRANZIT event series was conceived by Chicago electronic music DJs Mario Florek and DNA, and was designed for a few simple reasons. They wanted to create an event that centered around the music they love -- melodic, driving, uplifting, and floor-shaking trance. They wanted to present it in a big room and on a proper sound-system, in order to do this music justice. ...And they wanted to present it in such a way that the mood and atmosphere was not cheapened by some of the more unimportant aspects of nightlife -- cliques, the superficial, and the "see and be seen". It is simply about putting on a night filled with thought-provoking and energizing trance music that brings everyone in attendance together under one unified vibe. Come and see for yourself why this formula is a win-win. {[[[[ VISION SKY ROOM ]]]]} Special Guest DJ's: MARIO FLOREK vs COOK DNA PHYSICAL LAW TWITCHIN SCRATCH {[[[[ VISION DOME ROOM ]]]]} HIP-HOP & DANCE FAV'S: DJ SPIN [b96| DJ MACH 1 [103.5 kiss fm] {[[[[ VISION PENTHOUSE ROOM ]]]]} TBA Early arrival strongly recommended! Because, or perhaps despite, being a teenage classical piano competition winner (CMC, Kiwanis Music Festival, & ORMTA if you’re asking), he manages to combine his skill as a DJ with the craft of writer and producer. Moving through the business at breakneck speed, Glenn is as comfortable in the studio as holding court behind the decks, and is supported in his production role with extensive plays from the creme-de-la-creme of the DJing community, including Armin Van Buuren, Justice, John Digweed, Laurent Garnier, Sasha, Tiesto, Sander Kleinenberg and Sven Vath, to name but a few. This skill in the production arena has meant numerous signings across a series of well regarded and ‘classic’ dance labels such as Sony Music, Universal, EMI, Armada, Bedrock, Platipus, Ultra, Ministry Of Sound, Poker Flat, Defected, Azuli, and many others. His eclectic taste for all things considered ‘proper club house music’ has garnered him a variety of fans from varying core sound bases. From grainy screeching acid lines to lush ethereal progressive, this jack of all trades does it all and well. He is well know for his live mixes at such prestigious clubs as the Amnesia in Ibiza, Pacha in Buenos Aires, and the Roseland Ballroom in New York City, but he is equally at home putting together a set for the Dance Department or John Digweed’s Transitions radio show. The common denominator in all these cases being the ability to make a crowd dance and an eye for quality. Glenn came of age in the dance arena whilst working at Toronto’s influential Release Records. This lead to the foundation of Morrison Recordings, which has gone from strength to strength with its close association with the Dutch powerhouse of Armada Music. As well as releasing a string of high-quality dance records through his label Morrison Recordings, particularly Glenn himself has been involved in numerous licensing deals with a number of global brands such as Hugo Boss, Chanel and Armani Exchange, Mercedes Benz, and top computer players, Blizzard Entertainment, EA Sports and Nintendo. Despite an almost overwhelming workload of extensive touring in all manner of locations, from the small and uber-exclusive world of private yachts, oceanic house parties and secret desert gatherings to mindblowingly huge events with over 70,000 hyped-up fans in stadiums and all the amazing club venues in-between, Glenn still finds the time to remix for an illustrious range of artists - Pet Shop Boys, Craig Armstrong, the B52’s, and Bernard Sumner (from New Order). Most importantly, he is as enthralled by dance music in all it’s emotional glory as he was when the needle dropped and the beats fired-up on his first slice of vinyl. WAHI BIO: In what we have come to know as the ever-changing world of electronic dance music, Wahi is a man on the rise. He resists conforming to genres and refuses to label his work. As a DJ his track selections are often audacious and brazenly fresh, challenging the audience towards expansion of their listening vocabulary as he simultaneously herds them onto the dance floor time and again. With the recent launch of his digital label Curbed Recordings and a residency playing beside some of the best artists in the world at Chicago’s Vision night club he’s definitely got his hands full. His resume includes opening for the likes of Sasha, James Zabiela, MANDY, Steve Lawler and John Digweed who has been quoted as saying “Wahi is set to make a splash."

For Matthias Tanzmann the Distillery has special importance, as since 1997 he has been resident DJ there, providing the soundtrack for Leipzig nightlife for more than a decade. From the beginning Matthias’s musical output has revolved around more than just functional club music, regardless of whether it’s on the turntables or in the studio. Combining subtle arrangements that ride the deep vibes that lie between House and Techno, yet never forgetting the drive for the dance floor - that is what Matthias Tanzmann’s music is about. Together with Daniel Scholz he founded Gamat 3000 at the end of the 90’s. With releases on Dessous Recordings, Freude am Tanzen and FM Musik they quickly made a name for themselves in the German House scene. The duo even landed one of the club hits of the summer of ‘99, with the track 'Feeling Love'. At a millennium New Year’s Eve party, Matthias and Andrè Quaas (then part owner of the Distillery) decided to start a new label which would offer a premium platform for Leipzig House protagonists and for befriended international producers. With the release of the Gamat 3000 - â€Radio Moon†EP, the Moon Harbour label started along with the new millennium and received extremely positive feedback from the press and clubs alike. Matthias took over as A&R and Andrè now manages the entire administration of the label. In 2000 Matthias made his debut as a solo artist with “Rose Gardenâ€. In parallel to the success of Moon Harbour and Gamat 3000, he also rapidly advanced to becoming one of the most booked German House DJ’s. He later became resident DJ at the clubs Flokati (Munich) and Sternradio (Berlin), playing gigs from Moscow to Barcelona, Paris to London. As host of Moon Harbour Label Flights at the Distillery, Matthias has renowned international DJ’s to play, with the likes of Jackmate, Steve Bug, Jesper Dahlbäck and many more playing so far. It is not only music that plays an important role in Matthias Tanzmann’s life. In Weimar he studied media design at Bauhaus University. This was a creative extension to his work in Gamat 3000 and his profile as a solo artist. By 2007 he had released numerous EP’s, three mix compilations and remixed tracks by Moby, Wighnomy Bros., Freestyle Man, Marlow, Terry Lee Brown Jr. and Dapayk & Padberg. Collaboration with other artists is also very important for Matthias. Together with Steve Bug or Daniel Stefanik, he has produced various EPs, drawing inspiration from the new dynamics and sounds that the collaborative process can create. While over the years his tracks have developed from classical Deep House with a European edge, through to Minimal House bordering on advanced Techno, groove and deepness were and still are the essential elements of Matthias Tanzmann’s music. MATT TOLFREY BIO: For the last few years, everything has been falling into place for Matt Tolfrey. He quickly stepped up from playing at local bars to holding down residencies at Stealth and The Bomb, two of the country’s most respected underground clubs. He’s been billed alongside the likes of Richie Hawtin, Damian Lazarus, Craig Richards, Ricardo Villalobos and Andy Weatherall to name just a (very) few. He’s played at some of the best clubs in the UK, including regular slots at Fabric, and worldwide he’s guested everywhere from Ibiza , to Berlin, to Australia. As well as all this, he’s running two of his own labels named Leftroom and Leftroom Limited (www.leftroom.com), and he has tracks signed to labels with co-producer Craig Sylvester. Recently Matt also has teamed up with Crosstown Rebels, by joining the new Rebel DJ Agency. So how did he come so far so quickly? The answer is simple. Matt is a workaholic with a seemingly tireless dedication to forging his own unique style. Drawing on everything from deep house and techno, through to stripped down bleeps and Germanic mayhem, he’s spawned his own hybrid strain of electronic funk. Anyone lucky enough to have already witnessed Matt in action will know that his particular brand of mutant-house has the power to win hearts and destroy minds on the dance floor.

What sets apart the Martinez Brothers is their spirit. Oh, and another little thing: their age. By now you've heard about the Martinez Brothers. These guys are practically the definition of new blood. Steve is 20, Chris is 17. For a little perspective on the unlikelihood of their position, consider this: Shelter, the club where the Martinez Brothers learned just about everything they know about house music, opened its doors the same year that Chris was born. Which makes it all the more incredible that Shelter was the Martinez Brothers' first major club gig in 2006. Music always played a significant role in the Martinez home: the boys grew up playing a variety of instruments - keyboards, bass, and mainly drums and percussion. They'd play in church, at home, in various bands around the Bronx. It was their father, a veteran of disco-era clubs like the Paradise Garage, that turned them on to disco and house, via radio programs like Timmy Regisford's Kiss FM show and CDs that he'd bring home in an attempt to expand the boys' musical worldview. They played their first gig with Victor Rosado, a veteran NYC DJ who shared the decks with both Larry Levan and David Mancuso back in the day; their next appearance was at an Ibadan party at Shelter, alongside Dennis Ferrer and Jerome Sydenham. And from there they've gone on to rock many more floors worldwide - Warmup at PS1 MOMA (NYC), Pacha (NYC & Ibiza), Cielo (NYC), Karu & Y (Miami), Watergate (Berlin), She Club (Barcelona), Bataclan (Paris), Sasha Beach Club (Algarve, PT), Buddha Club (Porto), BBC (Lisbon), Red Zone (Perugia, IT), The Powerzone (Amsterdam, NL). (The first time they left the country, in fact, aside from family trips to Puerto Rico, was to play Cheers, Paris, the longest running soulful house party in Paris.) In 2009 they are already booked to play at the festival Electric Daisy Carnival (Los Angeles), Ministry Of Sound (London), Pacha (Ibiza), Social Club (Paris), Singapore (Zouk) and will also travel to Miami, Sao Paulo, Rio, Milan, Berlin, Tokyo, Lisbon, Amsterdam and beyond. The Martinez Brothers kicked off a new chapter in January, 2007, when Dennis Ferrer's Objektivity label released "My Rendition," a powerhouse of a record that won them a whole new world of acclaim. They have gone on to produce their ironically named followup “Debbie Downer†out in January 2009 with Berlin based Greek producer Argy and “Where’s Mr. Brown?†a hissing, techno track. Both sides have gained much acclaim from DJ’s such as Josh Wink, Dubfire (Deep Dish), Loco Dice and Sebo K. What sets apart the Martinez Brothers is their sense of flow. Watch them behind the decks: they don't stop moving. Lean, lanky, all wrists and elbows and ear-to-ear grins, these kids look like they were born to move. They're practically climbing over each other as records flow together, one brother cueing up a track, the other EQing, the headphones passed back and forth, forearms intertwined, heads bobbing in unison. It's amazing to watch. It's even more amazing to hear. From his ongoing summer residency at the legendary Amnesia club in Ibiza, to a 40 country world tour to complement his successful 2-disc DJ mixed compilation for the Armada Dancefloor Sessions series. Blake Jarrell is one of the fastest rising stars in the dance music industry today. It is hard to believe that just a few years ago Blake's fortunes we're anything but good. Blake arrived in his adopted hometown of Chicago in 2005 shortly after packing up all his belongings and fleeing the Mississippi Delta from the menace of Hurricane Katrina. The Windy City's vibrant electronic music community embraced Blake's natural fan making ability and he was making waves in no time. Blake quickly rose through the ranks of local jocks and a big break was just ahead. Some high profile bookings brought on a chance meeting with Armada Music's head aficionado Armin Van Buuren. After listening to a few of his original productions, Armin contacted Blake and soon after he joined the Armada artist roster. Since that time Armin has invited Blake on several of his world tours as an exclusive special guest performer. Finally, Blake cemented his relationship with Armada Music when he joined a select group of international stars for full summer residencies at Armada's weekly shindig at Amnesia in Ibiza in 2007 and 2008. Battle tested indeed, after traveling to over 90 cities, the New Orleans kid turned Chicago hometown heavyweight remains busy and is looking to climb further up the DJ charts with an intense schedule of original productions and remixes. Blake's studio skills are what earned him an undisputed reputation and his creativity is enjoyed and heavily supported by Markus Schulz, Tiesto, Ferry Corsten, Paul van Dyk, Pete Tong, Matthew Dekay, John Digweed, Paul Oakenfold and of course Armin Van Buuren. Blake recalls his 2008 hit Punta del Este and his remix of Moussa Clark's She Wants Him as just some of the highlights of his young career. The former was featured on Armin Van Buuren's acclaimed A State of Trance 2008 compilation, and the latter held the #1 position on Beatport's trance charts for several weeks. It is this blistering pace of success that has kept Blake grounded which explains his dedication to expanding his monthly radio show Concentrate. The show continues to evolve and reach new audiences by featuring signature mix sets from Blake Jarrell and special international guests. He believes in his fans immensely and works tirelessly to give back to the people that have supported him and his records. Blake is set to kick off 2009 with an international tour in the better part of February in support of his upcoming project for Armada Music. A unique compilation that will feature some of Blake's original work as well as high profile remixes. The album will debut at the Winter Music Conference in Miami at the end of March with a CD release on Armada Music scheduled shortly after. The tour will see Blake off to Riga, Stockholm, Helsinki, Vancouver, Toronto, Miami, Boracay, and San Francisco, among others. Blake Jarrell sets the bar awfully high for aspiring young artists from Chicago, New Orleans and beyond, but it is his perseverance, dedication, hard work, and most of all passion for his craft that sees him through to the top and across the world. This night will also be broadcasted live on www.Sense.FM ! BLAKE JARRELL [blakejarrell.com, Concentrate podcast]

They met and started working together in the spring of 2002 and embarked on a prolific partnership based on their shared musical styles and experiences on the global DJ circuit. Their combined talents have created a powerful, somewhat experimental and original style of music, (some have called it deadly Techno meets Electronic House) very current on the underground club scene right now. THE PRODUCERS Their first remix production Live Love released in February 2004, on Fantastic House, was on the playlist of such DJs as Smokin Jo, Steve Lawler, DJ Ralf, Victor Calderone, Danny Tenaglia to name a few…the track has also been featured on several compilations including Lights Out 2, Amnesia Ibiza amongst others… The rest of 2004 saw several more releases which slowly built and developed both the reputation and also production values of Audiofly. Audiofly started a new project entitled Audiofly X in 2006, which covers the deeper and minimal values of house music which has been gathering a lot of momentum on the more UNDERGROUND scene recently. Their first EP called Stolen Goods was signed to SAW Recordings and features on Satoshi Tomie’s 3D comp. The next release, Lost on Moodmusic was released and immediately went into the Top 10 sellers on Beatport for a couple of weeks. 4Play (on German tech house label Get Physical there 60th release) met with some serious support with the first pressing selling out in an hour. Revered uber-producers, their musical acumen has seen them become long-term favourites of the trance’s Big 5 DJs with their 3 hugely-received albums transporting anthems like ‘Body of Conflict’, ‘I Feel Wonderful’, ‘Analog Feel’, or the classics ‘Exploration of Space’ and Fire Wire to the dancefloor. As DJs, their kinetic, blood-pumping live performances are seen by hundreds of thousands of club and festival goers annually. Playing a 100 nights every year, it’s this ever-visible club presence that saw them reach their highest position to-date on the DJ Mag Top 100, landing at No.62 in 2008. Following a chance meeting at a label office in Cologne in late 1998, the pair collaborated for the first time. It’s a production partnership that has become one of the dance world’s most successful and memorable. In their homeland of Germany, they’ve maintained a consistent level of chart success, with no fewer than 7 Top 40 singles to their name and a Top 10 hit in the UK in 2001, with the quintessential club hit, Fire Wire. Drawing on a broad-range of their individual musical tastes and influences, they’ve continued to advance and enhance the sound… Following up the long-players ‘Rythm & Drums’ and ‘No More Sleep’, in 2006 they released ‘Earth Mover’, which saw a seismic shift towards a more melodic and electronically orientated music. Including the club hits ‘Analog Feel', ‘Should Have Known’ and ‘I Feel Wonderful’, the long-player was IDMA nominated for Best Album of 2007 and was latterly seen as a new ‘year one’ for Cosmic Gate. In 2009 Nic and Bossi are set to release their fourth studio album ‘Sign of the Times’, which contains 11 floor-monsters-in-waiting, last year’s vocal anthem ‘Body of Conflict’ and the latest smash single ‘Not Enough Time’, which in the words of Tiësto is “a great and solid vocal trancer that touches all your musical senses!†And in the broader scale on ‘Sign of the Times’ Armin van Buuren says “The new Cosmic Gate album is one of the most anticipated releases of this year. They are on the forefront of the dance music sound of the moment… Bring on 2009!†Deck-side Nic and Bossi have whipped floors into frenzies all the way around the world. In 2008 they played Tiësto’s now-famous Monday nighter at Privilege in Ibiza, rocked roofs at the Judgement Sunday nights and decisively broke into the US and Australian clubbing scenes through a string of sell-out tours. They appeared in the DJ Magazine’s list of Top 100 spinners for 6 years now and are regular festival attraction, spinning at events like Trance Energy and Mysteryland in The Netherlands, Summadayze in Australia, Germany’s Nature One and Stateside at Nocturnal. In early 2009 they are set to roadblock the Freedom Festival with Tiësto in Malaysia and Sunrise in Poland. Back2Back, Cosmic Gate’s on-going compilation series was devised as the at-home testament to the pair’s club-rocking exploits. 2007 saw the release of the 3rd volume through Tiësto’s Black Hole label. The compilations bring the evocative mix of trance, progressive and electro and stands apart through their use of numerous at-the-time unreleased productions and unique Cosmic Gate edits. Over their production lifetime, the Cosmic Gate remixes have become almost as fêted as their productions. Essentially a blow by blow of trance music’s A-list, Nic and Bossi lent their studio know-how to productions by the likes of Tiësto, Armin van Buuren, Ferry Corsten, Above & Beyond’s OceanLab project, Rank 1 and Blank & Jones. Most recently they rewired Deadmau5’s ‘Clockwork’ to devastating effect and created two highly-praised remixes of ‘Vincent De Moor - Fly Away’ and ‘Veracocha - Carte Blanche’.
