  1. well it's not our fault that it was so much better a few yrs. ago....
  2. Yes, I do see what you're saying...being a songwriter is more conventially "artistic" and somewhat more challenging than djing....I play guitar besides djing, so I'm not a strictly 100% turntable girl, I enjoy other musical endeavors as well. I practice djing more frequently however (and take it more seriously than I do the guitar) and I think that becoming what is considered a "good dj" does take some key elements that are NOT so easy to obtain. -Good track selection (with whatever genre u play) -Proper placement of track within in a set (beginning of set, peak hr., afterhours, etc.) -Beatmatching/Turntable skills (this is such a must in my book, I've heard way too many who can't do this well and it kills me) -Using the previous 3 elements to create a great, energetic vibe throughout the night If you are JUST PLAYING RECORDS, and u consider that the DJ artform, then, I dunno...u need to get a clue (and u can go to the top of Mt. Cool with the rest of them, as Saigray put it). What I'm saying is a great DJ knows how to not just play records and make the experience something more than that. (And let's not forget those Turntablist dudes that actually use the turntable as an instrument, scratching and tweeking to the rhythm...)
  3. As is within any business, everyone has to pay their dues before success comes knocking on the door... Being a female dj who has been spinning for 6 yrs., I fully respect that and have been doing so ever since I started. I'm waiting for something huge to happen, but don't mind all the practice and "smaller" gig experiences I've gotten in the meantime. I truly just enjoy spinning and I know it's only going to make my performance that much stronger in the long run. But there are def. some "dj's" out there who haven't paid their dues. THAT is what gets me frustrated--when simply "knowing" someone who has the power to get u a nice gig is what gets u places and not your TALENT. The fact that this particular situation even exists is absolutely retarded. It might have something to do with the DJ nowadays being equivalent to the rock star. Everybody wants a piece of the spotlight... However, if that's the only reason you're doing it (and not for the love of the music and playing for the people)....it just doesn't make any sense, and it is def. the wrong reason. Much love to all the dj's who practice, practice, practice and give a shit about the music!! -S DEE
  4. south beach ain't that big at all and most the clubs are all on the same strip in the same vacinity (and anyone on the street there can tell u where to go if u don't have a clue)....mainly collins ave, and washington ave, and a lil' bit of ocean ave. too...
  5. yeah, it kinda does:zzz:
  6. That is hilarious! Will be used in the future...
  7. I can't believe they actually did a remix to sheryl crow....what is this world coming to?
  8. Well, emotions is actually being OFFICIALLY released domestically soon on Robbins Ent., but she does have a new single coming after that, I think it's called "Rising." (it's good, but not as good as emotions IMO).
  9. This is very true, which is why I said whites "USUALLY are bootlegs." A majority of them are, while some others are label promos...most the time, however, label promos do say say PROMO on it or "For promotional use only" in some form or another on the actual label, as mentioned above, hence making it not a 100% pure white label.
  10. Enigma has some talent and longevity here, let's not confuse things...
  11. I was there at the central park summer of 00 party...good times, good music, hot weather! Remember sweating my ass off, but it was well worth it.
  12. white labels refer to 12" 's, that yes, have a white label, but usually the white labels are bootlegs that are not signed to any particular record label (hence the label is white or blank).
  13. relentless is a sick track...will always be one of my favorites. but, on the more recent note, am I the only one who thinks manufactory is waaaay over-rated?
  14. Just to let all know, elisabeth withers has switched her name to elle patrice, so if u see that name around (in conjunction with emotions), just know it's the same chick...
  15. I'm one! ....go under the name DeJa...so far places I have spun (in the NY area at least)...Music Industry Store in Huntington and XVI downtown... If u would like a cd of mine, just ask, I'll send one your way... (All types of house and some trance, includes vocals) http://deja628.djcentral.com
  16. Original Follow Me's: Spacefrog Aly-us both still slammin' in my opinion... circa 1996-1997 New remixes of the Spacefrog version of Follow Me, pants and corset and mr. bishi rmxs about 3 wks old (on Tidy Traxx)...relatively new.
  17. ...your welcome...i missed that he had already answered it for u...
  18. dj sammy and yanou ft. do-heaven
  19. Just in case u get confused when looking it up--dirty vegas and hydrogen rockers are the same ppl...so it could be listed under both, but I think it was released as Dirty Vegas-Days go By. Great song, it's amazing that like a yr after it comes out advertisers found it and used it in a mistubishi commercial.......
  20. Yeah, I think he did a really good job with "In your eyes"....feeling it (and I don't even like Kylie).
  21. Though vinyl is my preffered medium, typically with a cd player, the pitch control is more sensitive than with turntables (as said previously). Just be aware of that, and I'd still use the .5 notch as a guide. But as said, moving the pitch control slightly in that respect and feeling it out is the best way to go. -S DEE
  22. if u still wanna go by the estimation, i MEANT half a notch to one notch up or down....not 1.5, I feel that would be too extreme... my bad...
  23. I would try going up or down (depending on if you're slowing the record down or making it faster) about 1.5 notches to start--but really there is no estimation, and I wouldn't have such a concrete method like that for beat-matching....I'd focus more on training your ear, and getting that skill down. Once u have that down, adjusting the pitch the correct way will just come natural. Good luck! -S DEE;)
  24. Sum sigh say is one of my fave tracks ever....good choice....the Danny T. one ain't bad either...
