  1. A question for everyone, just because I'm interested: How much is too much and how much is keeping it within the realms of moderation? It will be interesting to see people's subjective opinions and then perhaps contrast the U.S. opinion to what I know from the U.K. Actually, I am going to post this as a separate thread for a wider response. 2. Hi BlueAngel, I was surprised to see my name on the board! I'm afraid that I haven't heard much about the Innercity events. I went clubbing there once but that was north of the city and, Amsterdam being Amsterdam, I do not remember a great deal. Also went to E-Werk in Berlin (PVD's original residency) which was mad. The only thing that I can suggest for information is to contact MFS. They are PVD's German label and they are usually involved in the Amsterdam stuff in one way or another. They're ordinarily really helpful as well and their English is much better than my German which is a plus! Gte in touch: http://www.mfs-berlin.de Someone there certainly may be able to help you. Alternatively, one of the UK dance magazines such as DJ or MixMag usually have quite a bit of information on the continental European scene. Try their sites at:\ http://www.techno.de/mixmag and http://www.djmag.com Again, contact them if there's no info on the site. Wih I could get out there myself and they are even crazier than the English - although not as classy of course! ;o)
  3. Nolimit - I'm afraid so. The council are trying to revoke their licence. Since Oakey left it has gone downhill and the old 'refined' crowd has been replaced by a younger, less-educated crowd who make the usualy mistakes with drugs. There have been some problems so I wouldn't be surprised if the place is on its last legs. A shame - the end of an era. My brother is going next weekend so he should give me the details. I'll let you know.
  4. Crystal - you got it mate. It would be my pleasure. There really is nothing like it (in my opinion) and I think it's just going to keep on getting better. I'll be back there in September for at least 6 months so if you can get across, let me know!
  5. Ges, E can be a great thing but like absolutely everything else in this life - do it responsibly - know what you're doing and find something out about Ecstasy before you enjoy. Definitely check out www.ecstasy.org. A fantastic and balanced resource. Secondly, forget everything you've heard about the sexual aspect (myth) about the drug. The great thing about E is that it has the ability to completely dispel sexual tension. That's why the clubbing scene is so great. Girls can go clubbing and go mental next to the guys - they can smile at each other, dance crazy and hug - whatever! and there's no sexual connotation. That part of E I love - the fact that everyone is relaxed and no-one feels intimidated by anything or anyone. Plus, E floods your system with natural dopamine that is going to make the family jewels nothing more than the family friendship ring (shrinkage). There are a lot of positive things to say about E but you must make your own judgement - after all, it's all subjective.
  6. Ooops. [This message has been edited by highbpm (edited 06-20-2000).] [This message has been edited by highbpm (edited 06-20-2000).]
  7. BlueAngel - Great! - look forward to it. By the sounds of it you could fit right in at Gatecrasher - a true Crasherkid! I want to try and get to know who is going so that I can meet everyone. I'm backwards and forwards to the UK a lot so I have very few opportunities to go out and LAAAARRRGGE it! So, anyone who's going, get in touch!!! Either here or email at highbpm@hotmail.com. Can't wait.
  8. Hey Alexandra, I'm not going to be any help whatsoever as to where to go but I just wanted to wich you good luck. If this were the UK I'd say take him to PVD as the UK seems to enjoy a more chronologically diverse crowd. Well, have fun wherever you go.
  9. Okay okay! So, Oakey doesn't come out each and every time and decide to play a blinding, euphoric hands-in-the-air set every time. This is something that I believe that you will all learn to appreciate about Paul. Years ago in the U.K., Oakey caught flak for playing 'unusual' sets. What he was really doing was trying to puch the boundaries (although I do admit that he was often just breaking the new stuff on his Perfecto label to guarantee sales). Oakey usually plays very much for the connoisseur. His two-year residency at Cream in Liverpool lost a few dedicated followers after a couple of months but when these same followers went to other 'superclubs' over there they found themselves thinking "what is this cheesy shit?" They had become accustomed to his selection of generally non-commercial tunes. So, my point being - stick with him. Oakey is (has been) here for the long haul and he usually delivers. Just my humble opinion.

  11. Yep Vinyl Girl, this is a good topic. I agree entirely about the tribal connection. I also agree with the previous poster who loves the Groove! It's all about groove and whatever your preference - hard, funky, trance, progressive - they all have one thing in common - repetitiveness. I say that with the utmost fondness as I love clubbing as much as anyone. Physically speaking it's because of the 1b receptor in your brain. This lovely little gift from God just LOVES repetitve things and seems to be extra-responsive to SOUND. So, it's happy - we're happy. Oh, by the way, its sensitivity is enhanced by (can you guess?) Ecstasy. Well, who would have thought it?? Who's gonna be at Twilo for PVD on July 21st??? I'm leading the European invasion and want to all of my U.S counterparts there!!!!!
  12. Ah! BlueAngel again. The 21st is going to be perfect. I'm even having some friends from Germany come with me so the European invasion is on! You'll have to make yourself known so that we can say hello.
  13. Hey all, Is PVD at Twilo in July? I will just be back from visiting home (U.K) at the end of June and I will be right up for some mental clubbing.
  14. That's a good source so I hope you enjoy it just as much as I have over the years. It just isn't the same for me as the original people have been completely recycled. With success come commercialism attracted by the lure of a lucrative business. Way back when it just used to be the clubbers who were so clued-up - they knew and loved the music and knew where it had grown from. Recently it just seems to be 17-19 year olds caning too many pills or drinking and shagging everyone. However, it would be wrong of me to leave this post on a downer so, as I said previously, pick your place, hook up with like-minded people, dance until 8 in the morning, go to Space and dance for 5 hours more and there is really no place like it on Earth. I have just been spoily by yesteryear (in my opinion). Have a lot of fun!!
  15. Without a doubt - Cream in Liverpool (U.K.). They have a system that cost millions and they claim that wherever you are standing in the club, the music is in perfect stereo. I've tried this and I've been far too wasted to be able to discern night from day, let alone of both my ears are receiving the equal amount of decibellage (is that a word?) - it sounded bloody good though. I must admit that Twilo is pretty good though.
  16. To all of you planning a mad summer trip to Ibiza - despite the depressing tone of the title of this message I am sure that you are going to have an incredible time - there really is nowhere like it. I am from the UK and therefore, everyone who's anyone disappears to the shores of San Antonio for at least a couple of weeks in the summer. Last year I promised that it would be my last visit to the island (to dance my nuts off anyway). I have been there 6 times (since '93) and it has changed soo much - particulary in the last 3 years. Don't get me wrong, I love the place and the people (most of them) are great but less people are out there now to 'ave it LAARGE and more are out there to drink beer and start trouble - you have to pick your spots. You must go to Pacha and Oakey at Amnesia is always a treat. Go to Manumission but not to dance. Simply stand there and be absolutely amazed at what ludricrously unimaginable things people can come up with. Oh, while you're there - rent a scooter and get up into the hills - they are truly beautiful and are a fantastic and serene break from the hysteria of clubland. If anyone wants any suggestions on places that are definitely worth a visit let me know. Post here or email me at highbpm@hotmail.com
