  1. thatd be awesome if you could find me the info, thanks!
  2. does HOUSE DANCE CONFERENCE still exist? i used to go the first thrusday of the month to demerara's on 28th street, does this still go on there? details please!
  3. so for real... bring a gift before midnight and u get in free? i have been living in buenos aires for the past few months and havent been out yet in manhattan! im looking forward to this, what time do doors usually open?
  4. really? even if i dont speak fluent spanish? i mean... it just doesnt seem like an intelligent choice to be going out alone as a female in a city where i am not a native nor do i expertly speak the language. why do u say it is safer than the cities u mentioned? i believe u, but can u elaborate?
  5. no i know, im not denying it is an issue altogether. it just gets blown out of proportion such as announcers reading it during a game.
  6. announcers read what is fed to them.
  7. seriously, payroll is getting to be the oldest cop-out argument in the book. the reason the yankees have such a big payroll is the fact that new yorkers are intense fans, plus we have tourists coming to yankee stadium because of its history. and you know what, not only do we then get our choice of top players as a result of money, NEW YORK CITY ITSELF benefits. so all u kids who go to nightclubs should thank george steinbrenner even if he is an asshole, because the yankees make a lot of money for this beautiful city some of us LIVE in.
  8. if this is true, how did he get booed at the yankee / red sox opening in both FENWAY and yankee stadium by all red sox fans in attendance? red sox fans are claiming johnny damon is a traitor, meanwhile they only root for the jersey, not the player wearing the jersey. baseball players move around to different teams, it is part of the game. if jeter went to a different team, i would still appreciate his skill even if i disagreed with whatever team he decided to go to. of course the difference is yankee management recognizes a good player and hold on tight. GO YANKEES!
  9. thank you so much for your help; i really appreciate it. anyone else have info on this subject? oh and p.s. how safe would you consider it to go out by yourself? i go out alone in nyc at times and feel completely fine because it is my city but i am guessing it wouldnt be very smart to do it down there. any thoughts?
  10. wow sounds awesome, thanks for the info. so the lines at the door are massive? and is there one general area where the clubs are located? or are they throughout the city?
  11. i am thinking of moving to buenos aires in september and am wondering what the nightlife is like down there. i have heard good things and the city in general is known for its late hours. i am curious as to which spots are THE ones to frequent, what kind of music primarily rules down there, if and how often world-renowned (sp?) djs visit, and how much all of this is going to cost me (as in covers, drinks, other costs, etc). anyone who has been there or even better has lived there... please feel free to hit me up with pertinent information! thanks so much
  12. place was looking the same as factory basically except a couple minor changes. it was not overcrowded INSIDE by any means. seriously there was more room there than i have ever seen when it was factory. the crowd was outside b/c the stupid door wasnt letting people in quickly enough, which is ironic b/c there was no ID check and no body search. whole thing was very strange. but the whole "crowd" control deal is bs. sound system did sound amazing. im pissed they shut it so early. but i will be back there, b/c the people actually in the club enjoying themselves were halfway decent. "You have to be WITH the music. Not follow the music, but be with the music, be part of the music. It's a different depth of understanding. Certainly you can dance on top of the music. That's something different. But if you are going to be a part of the music, you have to be INSIDE it."
  13. i would like to be reminded of this closer to friday... actually friday of NEXT week b/c this week i picked up a shift for a co-worker.
  14. what time will the line start to get ridiculous?
  15. it was TERRIBLE. roxy door management is ridiculous - people were paying the bouncers $20 a head to CUT the line (not even to guarantee entrance, just to move up closer to the door.) the bouncers must have made over thousands of dollars last night. i waited an hour and a half because roxy fails to have a ticket line and a non-ticket line - they are such assholes at that club. then i get inside and the music sounds horrendous, half the people were under 21 (i saw 3 seriously e'd out girls in the bathroom and one of them was literally carrying about 30 plastic straws in her bra-top to munch on), and for some reason roxy kept those chairs and tables in the back side by the far bar. i mean with that many people u really cant have those tables there. the one dance circle i saw had a bunch of jacked kids with no shirts on hopping around and at first, i was like oh this one kid isnt bad but something is off, and then i realized that even though he had decent moves, he wasnt even going with the music. it was like he was deaf. i stayed less than an hour and didnt even feel bad about leaving - i will never go to roxy again. i have said it before but last night takes the cake.
  16. really really happy i made it out... it felt so fcuking good to dance my ass off. i definitely think it was worth it.
  17. i stressed in because i live in manhattan and i work in manhattan and on saturday night when i get out of work i do not want to leave the island. as for the other responses, thanks for the info and keep the ideas coming.
  18. i checked most of the stickies and i can't seem to find anything good for saturday night IN manhattan. even a smaller club would be fine. id prefer NOT to pay a $20 cover... dj does not have to be big name just good. what about sullivan room on a saturday? or any other smallish venue? i haven't been out in a while but think saturday night is the only one i can do this weekend... any info please.
  19. i know, what is with the constant rallying. practically everyone in manhattan hates bush and voted for kerry. (i chose not to vote for either of those assholes.) and my eyes were itching so much when i got home, i had to take 3 tylenol colds because i didnt have allergy medicine.
  20. day - assistant production manager at elie tahari in midtown www.elietahari.com night - server / door at dylan prime in tribeca www.dylanprime.com do not want to be at either job ever
  21. i went to the much lesser known mayday in tompkins square park on sunday. it was the biggest bunch of crackheads. i mean u think jp nights at spirit were bad or something to that extent, u would not believe the completely wrecked people i saw in a public park on a sunday afternoon at 5:30. in a matter of 5 minutes i saw a girl fall into a fence and another puke all over the place, not to mention the innumerous dilated pupils or spaced out looks. and the saddest part was some of these people had little kids with them. the music was awful and it was like watching a car accident - i couldnt look away and i was glued to my bench. i remember a few years back being at this same annual mayday party and seeing happy people dancing and meeting old friends and just enjoying the day. no wonder the party / club scene has gone downhill. PEOPLE in general are just killing themselves. dont get me wrong - i like getting fcuked up as much as the next person, but i mean really... idk - nyc's mayday certainly is nothing like germany's. (i havent been to loveparade or mayday - closest thing to something like that was a godskitchen party in wales.) anyway even though it was a beautiful day and i was certainly entertained, the whole thing just freaked me out and made me incredibly sad.
  22. i thought it was a good night. kinda packed with a weak crowd. music got better as the night went on. but spirit has this strange feel to it always - like a negative energy to the building. idk lately nights seem off, even if the music is there. but it was worth the evening, im glad i went.
  23. if i don't make it to this - someone be sure to kick my ass. i need to dance!
  24. i kinda feel like dancing. could anything possibly be going on tonight - easter sunday? has show gotten any better like it used to be? sunday night thoughts?
