  1. uhm, best night since Carl Cox. This is going to be a serious music night. No foolin. Look for seriously hard house, funky house, touch of breaks possibly from Maas. Last time, deep played it kinda steady and didn't open up till after 5 when they kicked large with their re-mix of Madonna's new "Music" track (first time the song was ever played). Was off the hook after that - zoinks! I will be there with bells and whistles on. just can't wait. ------------------ keep it cutlary www.spoonyd.iwarp.com

  4. frankie, that's hardcore. consider your ass bumped up the respect ladder. This makes me wonder something else. How come people get all gushy when a big name deejay plays for more that a couple hours? I know I was freaking out when PVD just kept going and going, past the 7 hour mark. Now, maybe that's an extreme case. but c'mon. For all the $$'s they're gettin paid, 4+ hours seems like it should be the norm, not the exception for international deejays. I'm sure Frankie up there wasn't getting any $10,000 cheque for droppin 6 hours of platters. Much respect. ------------------ keep it cutlary www.spoonyd.iwarp.com

  6. On Friday night I got a late call to play a gig at some place on the LES (the rivertown lounge). They wanted me to play out the night. I got there a little before midnight and started playing. I had to play for over 4 hours straight, which is the longest I've ever gone straight. Let me tell you, at about 3:15 i just about lost it. I couldn't see straight, I couldn't hear straight. I'd forgotten what all the songs in my box sounded like, I couldn't hear a beat in my headphones, or match beats, or pick tracks, I was exhausted and losing my nut sitting in a little booth perched up above the bar where no one could see me coming unravelled. argh. Maybe it was partly becuase I couldn't see the crowd, and maybe cuz they couldn't dance and there was ZERO interaction, I don't know. But after seeing deejay after deejay play for 5, 8, 12 hours even, man until you've tried it... I don't think I can ever speak badly of another deejay again. At least the night had some pretty stellar moments musically, even though I'm sure hardly anyone noticed. I was able to pull myself back together to finish out the night on a high-note, but man, for a while there I swear I was going to lose it completely. 10. This is huge news for Toronto. A city that hosts some of the greatest events in the entire North East (if not North America) was at risk of having the entire scene shut down through the co-operative efforts of the maniacal city mayor and fascist new chief of police. The way Toronto partiers banned together to make a huge political statement about their freedoms and their love for electronic music and the cultural movement surrounding it is inspiring. This marks a major turning point for Rave's cultural status in all of North America. A city that was ready to ban them outright has made a complete about face and will now support them and take an active part in making them safer, and helping to educate partiers about the dangers of drug use that is often associated with raves. You can follow a lot of the debate and media coverage by picking through a couple of Toronto message boards, namely www.tribe.ca and www.hullabaloo-raves.com . I have to send out major props to my Toronto posse who helped to save a scene that could very well have died yesterday. d ------------------ keep it cutlary www.spoonyd.iwarp.com
  11. Terry Mullan is good. He's originally from Toronto, and yes, is on the west coast now. I caught him last time he was at Centro Fly a couple months ago, it was a Saturday, him during rush-hour, Paul Walker closing - both Toronto homeboys. He played a pretty funky house set. Very danceable, very musical, very Centro Fly. Definately worth the price of admission. If Paul Walker were there too, that'd add certain bang for the buck. Dude drops some straight up techno - ouch he was good. I miss seeing him all the time. ------------------ keep it cutlary www.spoonyd.iwarp.com

skip1z There's two versions of the song, one is "Fly in" the other "Fly out". That might change things. I've only seen it on vinyl. They have it at Eightball Records (where I heard it), you can also order it online from satellite. If I had it, I'd be more help, but I don't so I'm sorry. later d ------------------ www.spoonyd.iwarp.com

  19. wow, I thought I was going to get flamed. cool. At least I'm not the only one disappointed with the party music in this town (except for Twilo). Just to add my $0.02, I pretty much agree on S&D though they have their trance moments. Sometimes long hours of progressive sounds, hell, Sasha on a good night will even almost go German. But generally it's a deep dark and hard progressive sound bordering on dank hard house where I generally prefer happy and over the top trance. meh. At least PVD kicked my ass a couple weeks ago. If you want to hear the trance I like, goto my webpage (at the bottom of this post). I have a page where you can listen to my mixes - there's some 4hrs of streaming stuff. later d ------------------ www.spoonyd.iwarp.com
  20. Happy 2b Hardcore is mixed by Anabolic Frolic, on Moonshine records. There are four CD's, all very good. You might also check out "The World of Vinylgroover" Vols 1 & 2. For real information on Happy Hardcore, goto: www.hullabaloo-raves.com This is the website for Anabolic Frolic's rave company in Toronto. They have a very very active message board where you can get boundless info on hhc including ftp sites, mp3's track listings, cd suggestions, anything hhc related. ps - there's a hhc rave in Rochester next weekend (aug 12). Is that the help you were looking for? spoony out ------------------ www.spoonyd.iwarp.com
  21. uhm, didn't catch much of that LEGENDARY ability last friday, unless you meant move me to tears, or perhaps, move me to sleep. I'm a dj and I don't respect Digweed as one of the absolute best. care to add more hyperbole? ------------------ www.spoonyd.iwarp.com
  22. Here's a suggestion. goto: www.satelliterecords.com It's an online record store. Go to the "Search" page. There you can search through their selections by style. Simply select a style of music, then listen to a few samples. Try to get a feel for each style, and what makes them different. House and say Jungle are probably easy to tell apart, but house and trance are a little harder, house and techno, even harder still. At least it will make it easier to put a name to the styles you like. soon you'll be bitching about Carl Cox not being a "real" techno deejay cuz he plays too much tech-house, and even the techno he does play has too much acid. grr. ------------------ www.spoonyd.iwarp.com
  23. Being from Canada, take my word on this. There's no good trance in NYC. Though the people here seem to like the stuff they get, it's nothing like what you're used to. I don't even consider it trance. All I can call it is New York trance. It makes me cringe when I hear it. You might get lucky with a good international headliner at Twilo (not sure who will be here). Maybe tunnel on Saturday if the music improves. Just don't expect good trance. This town's about house music. We've been spoiled up north. Hotels - Try the Gershwin Hotel. They have hostel rooms for I think $35 a night, maybe a little more. They also have hotel rooms that are more expensive, but still really cheap compared. It's very cool (chic) and very clean. I lived there for a month. bon chance, a bientot d ------------------ www.spoonyd.iwarp.com

The one that you say sounds like a "bee", could be "The Fly" or "Fly". There's a couple songs out there using that, here's a couple samples: This is "fly" by DOGGYSTYLE*TUBE http://209.237.157.45/ram/55381.RAM This is "Fly In" or "Fly Out" by The Fly. It's probably the one you're looking for (I've heard it at exit). http://209.237.157.45/ram/59584.RAM Hope that helps spoony out
