  2. This was funny to read till people started talking about Carl Cox. There's a difference between vain NY club dj's who's fans think they are the world, and towering monoliths who have helped to shape electronic music over the last ten years to where it is today. I really wish people were as adamant about exploring and learning about music as they are about picking fights online. Try to maintain a little perspective. btw - I think it's very very funny trying to uphold JP's credibility by saying he only plays Whitney once in a night. That's pure comedy. ------------------ keep it cutlary www.spoonyd.iwarp.com
  3. he's not. the club is closed tomorrow, and every wednesday now, but for once a month. ------------------ keep it cutlary www.spoonyd.iwarp.com

  5. Well, Since people were asking who was going to be there tomorrow, and there's nothing on the webpage, I decided to take a bold and innovative step by calling the club. Yes, it was a ballsy move, but that's just the kind of guy I am. Maybe everyone else knows this, but it's news to me. Twilo is doing wednesdays once a month from here in. that sucks. So much for good music for a mature and educated crowd. next? ------------------ keep it cutlary www.spoonyd.iwarp.com
  6. Let's not forget the Colecovision next generation: ADAM And the Odyssey was the next gen to Intellivision. My Intellivision still works fine (paddles and all) with a big stack of games, unfortunately it's at my parents place 10 hours away. Anyone up for a road trip? I'd freek for a little Keystone Kops on my dad's 54" screen. btw - you can pick up all the old consoles as well as games for them at Multimedia 1.0 on St. Marks place. ------------------ keep it cutlary www.spoonyd.iwarp.com

  8. look, try this. Assuming this is on CD and you have the CD. Download Real Jukebox or any other program that uses the cddb. Then put the cd in your cd-rom and Viola! It picks up the track listing for you off the internet. Or, you can just go to www.cddb.com and enter in the cd title and it will give you the track listing. how's that? ------------------ keep it cutlary www.spoonyd.iwarp.com
  9. Hey kids, I was bored last night, so I've started a whole new series of tapes - "The ReRun Experiments". Whenever there's re-runs on t.v. I start playing records. It's mostly experimentation mixing new stuff and old stuff to see how things go together, sometimes it turns out okay, sometimes... well, you be the judgle. I think I'm gonna start recording and posting these these everyweek or so. This one's from last night. There's a couple ugly moments, but let's not try to harp on the trainwrecks. click this: http://www.myplay.winamp.com/play/pl/mp/3173498.m3u or go to my website below and go to the "Listen" page. Oh, and to keep the drama factor up: YOU'RE ALL SMELLY! please comment later spoony out ------------------ keep it cutlary www.spoonyd.iwarp.com [This message has been edited by spoonyd (edited 08-16-2000).]
  10. I only suspectI know what you are talking about because I am trying to find this track for a friend. For all the money, this is my final answer: Brainbug - Nightmare Wouldn't that be funny if I was right? At least the Dun Dun's line up right. Lemme know. ------------------ keep it cutlary www.spoonyd.iwarp.com
  11. okay, perhaps it's a little exaggeration. But let's keep in mind, Tilt did not play a full house at one of New York's most popular clubs. I think that says a lot. When a more or less unkown (perhaps 'less' known) trance dj can drag the attendance down at a club like Twilo... On any given night at twilo you have say 4 groups of people. 1. People who recognize the dj's name and are showing up for that. 2. People who recognize the club's name and are just going to "Twilo". 3. People who just need a place where they's be left along while they listen to loud music and do drugs. 4. People who know and appreciate the music above all else. That 4th portion is a small one, and likely the only portion that would have shown up to see Tilt if he were playing a different unknown venue. Compare that to the 4000 ravers who showed up just to hear Tiesto play at a rave in Toronto. This is what I'm getting at. No matter what though, I'd kill to see Tiesto at Twilo. Sure it would be a success, but for me, it would seem a little wrong. ------------------ keep it cutlary www.spoonyd.iwarp.com
  12. my vote for the best Trance in the city is Throb, 14thst. btw 2nd & 3rd ------------------ keep it cutlary www.spoonyd.iwarp.com
  13. here's what's at the root of my point I think. Not only is New York all about 'house' it's also very much a 'Club' town. People like S&D, even the PVD's play a pretty club friendly brand of trance. Slightly more progressive, techier. The style of Trance, at least the stuff I love, and the stuff Tiesto plays is more Rave music. Not meant for hoochies in leather pants and cowboys hats, but for kids in phat pants, baseball caps. Let me digress for a moment on the topic of raves here: I don't think it's any News Flash to say that New York has a pretty shitty Rave scene. I haven't been here long enough to know where it's going, but I've seen enough to know I don't like where it's at. If Tiesto played a rave here, and it didn't get shut down by the cops, I don't think anyone would notice. They'd be too fucked up or too busy swingin their glowsticks, or flexing their muscles and pushing their way around the dance floor. If he played Twilo... it would be empty. These are just my thoughts. I'm not here to be flamed but I'm curious what other people think. ------------------ keep it cutlary www.spoonyd.iwarp.com
  14. okay, granted the world could use fewer croth grabbing guys (be it their own or someone elses). But what the world does notneed is more cock teasers. Do the nice guys in this world a favor and please rethink. Maybe you could just go around clubs with glow sticks on strings and matching shirts that say "The Nut Crackers"! That'll keep the crotch grabbers away non? ------------------ keep it cutlary www.spoonyd.iwarp.com

  16. you mind copying me on the lowdown for the u/g trance scene? spoonyd@spoonyd.iwarp.com btw - my response was written before I read your post. Yes, we'd both fit into the 4th group I think. There's so few people that do though. ------------------ keep it cutlary www.spoonyd.iwarp.com
  17. It would even be okay if they only provided a portal to streaming mixes stored off the site. This is how they do it at www.djmixes.com . They store nothing on site, only provide links to offsite streaming and track hits and ratings for each mix. It might be a good approach. It certainly takes up much less bandwidth and storage overhead. ------------------ keep it cutlary www.spoonyd.iwarp.com
  18. A note on Tiesto. If I'm not mistaken, DJ Tiesto and Ferry Corsten make up Goureyella. He's played twice now in Toronto and has easily become that city's favorite Trance dj. His style is very uplifting. I'm not sure if New York is ready for Tiesto. Twilo certainly isn't. ------------------ keep it cutlary www.spoonyd.iwarp.com
  19. Wups, sorry. First track ID was incorrect. The track you want (the real tech one at 22min) is called "Junkyard Funk" and it's on the FM label. I can't remember the artist (but it's not Peace Division). I'll check when I'm at home. That's a pretty hype track, killer energy, I love it. ------------------ keep it cutlary www.spoonyd.iwarp.com
  20. Hey! Thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it. I'm glad you liked it. For the ID's, the first song, I don't recall, the artist, the song is called "Through Your Eyes". I also can't remember the label, but there is a sorta elliptical stylised 'S' on one side, and all the records from this label come in a translucent pinkish vinyl sleeve. I picked that track up at Throb records, but I have also seen that label sold at Beyond Bass. I'll try to remember to check when I get home tonight. The last track is by PPK, called either "Resurrection" or "Hey DJ" (it's a white label, so I'm not sure). My guess is Resurrection. It's on Vise RecordsI checked the Satellite Records database and they have it there. This is currently my favorite track in my whole box. As for a double bill, there's something in the works... why don't you drop me an e-mail. spoonyd@spoonyd.iwarp.com talk soon! ------------------ keep it cutlary www.spoonyd.iwarp.com

Talking In Your Sleep = The Romantics (same guys who did "What I Like About You") My dream re-mix actually just came true - that old 70's synth-pop classic: POPCORN!! listen!: http://209.237.157.45/ram/62196.RAM I was sooo happy when I heard it. 6 re-mixes on double vinyl. Sweeet. For other 80's freeks out there, I also picked up a prog-house rmx of Dead or Alive - Spin me 'Round... yeeeha! Still needs to be re-done - Join In the Chant by Nitzer Ebb. ------------------ keep it cutlary www.spoonyd.iwarp.com
  25. p00h: I think the beasty boys are talking about Spoony G (sp?) (or perhaps it skooly g (sp?). Though I could be wrong, I'm pretty sure it's not a 'd'. However, he is my namesake. I was dubbed spoony d during a drunken fit one night years back while hanging out at the The Dance Cave and listening to Sabotage.
