  1. Sounds like a better layout to me. Think of it this way ... with every prior year of WMC the parties were always dead by Wednesday .. and if you were trying to host a party on Tuesday or wednesday you could pretty much count on a burned out crowd. If conference starts on a Wed and ends on the week-end, the momentum of the conference can build up to a blazing finish instead of trickling off at the middle of the week. Whatever the case, I'm looking forward to attending once again ... this will be year 6 for me now ... sheesh!
  2. http://www.ebaumsworld.com/media/raver.mpg Uh oh .. uh oh ... bang bang bang bang
  3. The Streets "Original Pirate Material" -- Pushing Things Forward ... Oi
  4. Something for the ride home from work ... and the ride back to the beach for the clubs tonight.
  5. Full line-up for The Underground on 90.5 WVUM Friday night 11/8/02: 7pm-8pm - Devious - DnB 8pm-9pm - TS Heritage - Garage/2 Step 9pm-10pm - TS Heritage b2b Absolut - DnB 10pm-11pm - Tunes ... 11pm-12pm - Rek One - DnB 12pm-1pm - Bobby D and Ivy - tech-house, minimal-house, electro that's 6 hours of bizness.... are you ready? Truly underground soundwaves that will cover Dade county. Call in and big-up the CP crews when you tune in
  6. Cubase SX, Reason2, a shitload of plugins and a good ASIO2 soundcard with low latency is about all you need. Add to that a fast computer and midi interface and you'll be set ... no matter what type of electronic music you want to produce. Check this link for a rough mix of a tune I did using just the stuff listed above --> http://www.boosted.com/unite.ram
  7. No doubt ... but with hard work and good tunes perhaps we'll be able to say there is at least Garage every week-end!

    Reggae/Dub...

The best reggae night is "Madhouse" every Friday night at the Madhouse in Key Biscayne ... listen to Mixx96.1 for the info. That place rules.
  9. Two excellent points that compliment each other I think ... not mutually exclusive. I hear what David is saying ... the bottom feeder (nice analogy) hip-hop nights bring a crowd that trashes the beach and makes us locals wish for the old days when it was friendly to walk around from club to club. I hated the velvet rope policy as much as any other club-goer, but at least it kept things a bit under control. And SobeTon has a valid point too, the more diverse the clubs are, the more likely it will be to keep many people satisfied and keep the beach scene thriving ... the problem I see now is that the clubs are more homogenous than ever before.
  10. Hey now ... we may have been a "little hole in the wall" as you put it, but you don't have to throw it in our faces! We started BeatCamp in 1997 at Zanzibar, then moved it to The Mission, and finally to Tanja until we closed it just a couple of months ago. Lots of hard work was put into that weekly to keep it running every Thursday for nearly five years ... we owned d'n'b on Miami Beach in the late '90s ... and were the first crew to bring UKGarage to Miami in the spring of 1999. Our crowd was always hype and the place used to get packed, before the laws changed and fuqd everything up (we had an admittedly youthful crowd). Now, like you say, the underground stuff on Miami Beach is hard as hell to find, there's hip-hop *everywhere* (which I really feel has changed the vibe of Miami Beach immensely) and the over-21 law helped to finish it off. Luckily we still have downtown clubs to do the 18+, but I'm sure we all agree the vibe is not the same in Downtown. Another huge blow was the shutting down of The WOMB and Beach Radio live broadcasts. It was great when we used to be able to cover the beach with our signal and get everyone in their cars on the Washington Ave strip blasting our broadcasts. I'm sorry, but the potential for 93.1 to fill that void hasn't happened quite yet. I have big hopes for this season, with the radio exposure from Party93.1, to the movement of some of the previous "underground" sounds to bigger venues like Level, Exile, Crobar, etc ... here's wishing the economy hits a rebound and encourages it all to happen. WMC2003 may let us all know if we've still got it in Miami.
  11. Check the mezzanine and the upstairs rooms ...
  12. DBH ... I asked the same question myself and I'm spinning in the damn room, so I guess we'll both just have to search for it. In any event, there's a picture of the room at the Level homepage ... http://www.levelnightclub.com (click on the rooms circle for the pix). Great to hear there's another d'n'b/garage fan in town. If you don't make it Friday, get to Exile on Saturday where we continue the party in the same stylee. FX ... looking to meet up with you, heard good things about your sets.
  13. P.S... Holy Crap ... a whole room for Garage ... I think that's a first since the WMC. If you're a Garage head ... make it to this event so we can keep them coming. If you don't know what Garage is, then listen to this mix and show up to hear it live if you dig it! --> http://www.boosted.com/4x4labor.ram L8rz, Toby

  15. Add one more stop to your list ... hit Level for some Garage, D'n'B and breakbeats ...
  16. I was there ... left about 2:30 ... had to get some sleep b4 painting the house on Sunday. Man, my arms are tired!
  17. Welp ... I was at yet another club on Saturday night ... opening the room at Exile with some Garage and trying to turn people on to yet another style that gets no respect in Miami Talk about an underground ... try having a night with drum'n'bass and garage in the main room and see how you have to fight for a crowd! After that ... I went to Lola where I always wind up on Saturdays. What can I say, Saturday is tough. Don't let it stop you from trying to push what you love ... if it's runnin' it will work out in the end eventually.
  18. You all are missing one crucial point about the cost of CDs ... they're that expensive because the big sellers have to offset the loss that the Record Labels made on the bad sellers. For every 10 million copies of Madonna's last CD, there are 10 million copies of failed projects that the Record Companies never recoup their losses from. So, in order to keep the industry moving and give new talent a chance, the big name artists subsidize the newcomers. Sure, it would be great if every cd was only $5, but with the current distribution models that's not going to happen. The only way this is going to work out, speaking for CDs only, is if online distribution replaces the old brick and morter way of distributing product. The majority of CD costs is publicity and distribution ... eliminate the point of sale publicity and shipping and the price can go way dwon. Unfortunately, there will be pain over the next few years as things move to this new model ... the record companies that stop fighting the trend and instead embrace it will be the ones that make it in the long run. Instead of fighting Napster, they should have joined with them and made the new model work. Now the industry is fuct because the major labels missed their chance when it was all new and the lazy consumers had already bought into the new distribution media, i.e. Napster. Time to play catch-up! As for indy labels, I fear we're all dead. Like Stryke, I too run a small label, (only had three 12" releases so far, which sold like 500 units each) and I can tell you from experience that all of the little distribution companies that used to support us little labels are all hurting as much as us. Once the small distributers are out of business we're fuct. Time to invest your efforts into online distribution. With new CD players like the Pioneer CDJ1000, the differences between spinning vinyl and CD are very slim now. Soon enough it will all be mp3 players straight out of the laptop.
  19. Definitely had a great time last night. Brought a bunch of people with me who hadn't been to Lola before ... let's just say that they all agree they'll be going back again. Yeah, the tribal stuff that Edwin was playing later in the evening was wicked. All around a very funky night!
  20. I'll be there with a crew of 10 people or so ... looking to be there by 11p. Hope to see y'all on the dancefloor! L8rz, Toby
  21. EZ, D'N'D, Todd Edwards, Todd Terry, MJ Cole, Zed Bias
  22. Now that's something I can get into!! Body-Mod girls with Betty Page bangs ... yum!
  23. I used to play Garage at that place every Thursday, back when it ws called Tanja. The new setup is wicked, and the potential for a tight vibe is definitely there. Good luck SOTU guys ... perhaps I'll see you there tonight ... just hope you don't plan to have more than one person in that DJ booth at a time! Oh yeah, one other thing, tell H and G to get the patio open again!!!!
  24. 15 views and nobody says anything? If you listened to the link, let me know what you think ... L8rz, T
  25. Yeah, I may check it out for lunch one of these days ... but really if I'm headed to that part of the beach it's for the Vegetarian Chinese food across the street. The hot and sour three mushroom soup at Wok and Roll is wicked!! Still, strange to see Warsaw as a deli though!
