  2. Hey there ... new beats at slak ... checka checkit out
  3. If you make a mix CD, and aren't paying the artists royalties for their tunes that you used on the mix, the least you could do is give them the publicity of a setlist. And how 'bout posting up a URL with the encoded mix so we can all check it out? I'm up for checking out some new tunes.
  4. Had a pretty good time ... wicked setup and they definitely spared no expense on the production. Josh Wink had the best set. I was well impressed with how dubby his set was. Hope the promoters did well ...

  9. Hah! That's what I would have expected. The funny thing is that on Insomniac last night they re-ran the episode where Dave Attell goes to Miami and visits "Miami Velvet" for part of the show ... and year, it looked like it was full of "horny fat asses" ...
  10. Just got spammed with this ---> All I can say is ...
  11. Big up the inter-office crew! If anyone else on CP wants a copy the offer is still there ... send me a PM and I'll sort it out. Probably will bring a few to the BBQ on Saturday too, so hit me up for one there if you want it.
  12. CHRLes ... we're not saying that 93.1 should change it's format to all underground dance music all the time, what we're saying is that they would get a better rep if they changed up the format a bit in the evenings and on the week-ends. Sure, during the day and rush hour they can play the same rotation they play now, and hit most of the cross-over audience you suggest is their main cash cow. But, if they started some specialty shows in the evenings, like say 9pm to 2am every night and did something different, their rep with the "educated listeners" would be much higher, and thus the station would keep it's edge that it needs to truly be The Party Station they claim to be. Everyone knows the best parties are underground and on the bleeding edge of culture. I gave that station a chance for many months, and listened to it every day during the ride to and from work, and it just got on my nerves. People I know who aren't even into dance music all that much, but at least like to go clubbing a couple of times a month say the same thing, "That station plays the same damn songs every hour." If they get sick of it, how long does the station expect their real hardcore audience to stick around? All we're asking for is a little variety with some good live DJs, nothing extreme. Put a d'n'b show on monday night, deep house on tuesday, broken beat/new jazz on wednesdays, breakbeat/garage on thursdays, techno on Fridays, and trance on Saturdays and they'd have it covered. Bring in a good host for each specialty show, rotate out the guest DJS, and the quality of that station would increase. I did it for 7 years in College radio as a RPM director ... it's not that hard to organize!
  13. Gotta put my vote in for Scarletts as well! Thee Doll House is fun, but a bit too small, and Miami Gold is about the same. Only been to Tootsies once 'cause it's a bit far from my house, but the time I went there it was PACKED and pretty Ghetto. I was there all of 10 minutes when someone tried to hijack the ATM machine and pulled out a gun. Haven't tried to go back since. So, the big question is, when do we do a CP trip to Scarletts?
  14. Can't say I know her Joe ... but she does make for good flyer art (although not as good as the models that Abe uses for his K Otik Industiral parties).
  15. 93.1 had a chance to make a positive change to Miami radio ... and they blew it. Just because they're commercial, that doesn't mean they have to repeat the same setlist every hour day after day. All anyone needs to do is check out Radio 1 in the UK to see how a real radio station should be run ... good specialty shows every night of the week, plus live broadcasts from different venues with different styles, presenting new content without assuming the audience is ignorant or can't appreciate something different. The only thing I can say about 93.1 is that they're doing dance music like an American corporation would be expected to do it ... dumb down the product to the least common denominator and push more hype than substance. I know so many DJs who contacted the station early on, volunteering to do specialty shows *for free* just to get a chance to push some new music, and were denied. It's not about the money, it's about getting good music out there for people to hear. From what I understand the daily rotation is just a programmed set downloaded off satellite anyways. Oh well, thank god I can still put a CD into my player as lextcy suggested!

  17. I'm definitely there, too, sounds like fun! So, about the DJ lineup thang, let's skip the timeslots and instead just kind of get DJs who spin the same styles to play around the same general time. I don't know about y'all, but I'm up for tag-teaming 2x2 ... for me these kinds of parties are more about getting to meet people and hear some good tunes, not necessarily dominate the tables for a full-on hour long set. I'm sure we can work it out .. I'll be bringing some house and brokenbeat stuff, and I think I read some others will be spinning that style ...so speak up if you do and we can arrange for a general time of the day to work it.
  18. Same here ... I tried to stay past midnight but it was time to get home and get some sleep. Don't know if the Liks actually played or not ... but the Skatalites were wicked. Second time I've seen them and it was pretty much the same show ... considering the last time I saw them was like 1996 it's funny ... ska just hasn't changed much in 30+ years I guess BeatCamp room was like the only room with DJs, and was completely different from most of the other "punk rock" spin-off stuff that was going on. Kind of a strange mix, but it was still fun. It definitely had the "festival" vibe.
  19. What's with all the gaht dahm pop-ups?!! I know you gotta make your money some how, but crap, it's like every new page view causes another "Have fun with Lola" ad to popup. Sheesh! Sort it out!

  21. I'm down for a SPP CP Party... I've had plenty of day parties there with TurnTables setup, generators, etc ... the only hassle will be if other pavilions have music, too. Funny enough the biggest hassles I've ever got have been from the Gang Prevention Taskforce stopping the music and making sure no warfare is going to break out. So, yeah, let's do it. I'll be there, and of course will bring some tunes if there's room on the decks. Oh yeah, I'm vegetarian so I'll bring the veggie burgers and some salad
