  1. Dang it, I think a good night just got ruined.

I just noticed who some of the promoters for Friday night at Opium are. It is great to see that Dade can bring in Felix da' House Cat but since the sobespots crew will be there with there 'VIP free entry" to everyone and a million dude march, it will not be a normal good opium crowd.

That is just my opinion, and every one has one...

  3. Hey POD, I guess we may run into each other this weekend, with the limited number of places to go. We will just take pictures of each other at clubs. Well, now I have a dilemma of where to go on Friday: Opium or Oxygen. Is anyone thinking of going to Magical MayDaze on Sat?

Oh my god, I have not heard the names Jaun Atkins and Kevin Saunderson in forever. They were my first true experience of house music, yeah what a great way to be introduced to a new genre. Detroit used to be my escape to good music, the clubs were pretty much just warehouses, a nice underground feel, but the places were packed and people were just there for the music, no attitudes.

  4. No not all the clubs will be Hip Hop infested. Here are some good options to go to.

Thursday - Oscar G at Oxygen Lounge on the Grove

Friday - Opium Garde/ Prive for Felix Da House Cat

  5. I have been reading and reminiscing. For me growing up it was all about my Kangaroos shoes where I put my money. buying every new pair of Air Jordans even though my old ones were still good. Riding around on my Big Wheel, I think I went through like 5 of these things, I kept putting holes in the plastic wheels.

Playing with Legos and trading baseball cards with my friends. I spent so much damn money on baseball cards, and the gum was always hard as a rock. Waking up early in the summer watching cartons then playing baseball till it was time for dinner.

I was not cool enough to have a game system. I got a Commodore 64 computer. My parents thought games were bad so they gave me this computer you had to hook up to TV, that only had like 4 games 4 it, and they all consisted of some type of shooting at something. Oh yeah I did get Combat and Pitfall, since they made those games for everything.

As I watched TV I wanted to have a house like Webster (with all those secret passages), a girlfriend like Punky Brewster, a car that could talk like Knight Rider, and wondered if Boss Hog would ever catch Bo and Luke.

For the music it was all about Prince, Run DMC, Breakdancin beats, trying to act like we knew how to breakdance. I remember going and getting cardboard to put in my front yard to dance on. My friends and I also thought we had a cool group that could rap and dance, so in 4th grade for our "BIG Talent Show" we did a performance/dance to Brass Monkey by the Beastie Boys. Wow that was ugly, but fun as hell. I also related to the fresh Prince and how "Parents Just Don't Understand", sing it with me....

You know parents are the same no matter time nor place

They don't understand that us kids are gonna make some mistakes

So to you, all the kids all across the land

There's no need to argue, parents just don't understandI remember one year

My mom took me school shopping

It was me, my brother, my mom, oh, my pop, and my little sister

    All hopped in the car

We headed downtown to the Gallery Mall

MY mom started bugging with the clothes she chose

I didn't say nothing at first

I just turned up my nose

She said, "What's wrong? This shirt cost $20"

I said, "Mom, this shirt is plaid with a butterfly collar!"

The next half hour was the same old thing

My mother buying me clothes from 1963

And then she lost her mind and did the ultimate

I asked her for Adidas and she bought me Zips!

I said, "Mom, what are you doing, you're ruining my rep"

She said, "You're only sixteen, you don't have a rep yet"

I said, "Mom, let's put these clothes back, please"

She said "no, you go to school to learn not for a fashion show"

I said, "This isn't Sha Na Na, come on Mom, I'm not Bowzer

Mom, please put back the bell-bottom Brady Bunch trousers

But if you don't want to I can live with that but

You gotta put back the double-knit reversible slacks"

She wasn't moved - everything stayed the same

Inevitably the first day of school came

I thought I could get over, I tried to play sick

But my mom said, "No, no way, uh-uh, forget it"

There was nothing I could do, I tried to relax

I got dressed up in those ancient artifacts

And when I walked into school, it was just as I thought

The kids were cracking up laughing at the clothes Mom bought

And those who weren't laughing still had a ball

Because they were pointing and whispering

As I walked down the hall

I got home and told my Mom how my day went

She said, "If they were laughing you don't need them,

    cause they're not good friends"

For the next six hours I tried to explain to my Mom

That I was gonna have to go through this about 200 more times

So to you all the kids all across the land

    There's no need to argue

    Parents just don't understand

    Oh-kay, here's the situation

My parents went away on a week's vacation and

They left the keys to the brand new Porsche

    Would they mind?

    Umm, well, of course not

I'll just take it for a little spin

And maybe show it off to a couple of friends

I'll just cruise it around the neighborhood

    Well, maybe I shouldn't

    Yeah, of course I should

Pay attention, here's the thick of the plot

I pulled up to the corner at the end of my block

That's when I saw this beautiful girlie girl walking

I picked up my car phone to perpetrate like I was talking

You should've seen this girl's bodily dimensions

I honked my horn just to get her attention

She said, "Was that for me?"

    I said, "Yeah"

    She said, "Why?"

I said, "Come on and take a ride with a helluva guy"

She said, "How do I know you're not sick?

You could be some deranged lunatic"

I said, "C'mon toots - my name is the Prince =

Beside, would a lunatic have a Porsche like this?"

She agreed and we were on our way

She was looking very good and so was I, I must say - word

We hit McDonald's, pulled into the drive

We ordered two Big Macs and two large fries with Cokes

She kicked her shoes off onto the floor

She said, "Drive fast, speed turns me on"

She put her hand on my knee, I put my foot on the gas

We almost got whiplash, I took off so fast

The sun roof was open , the music was high

And this girl's hand was steadily moving up my thigh

She had opened up three buttons on her shirt so far

I guess that's why I didn't notice that police car

We're doing ninety in my Mom's new Porsche

And to make this long story short - short

When the cop pulled me over I was scared as hell

I said, "I don't have a license but I drive very well, officer"

I almost had a heart attack that day

Come to find out the girl was a twelve-year-old runaway

I was arrested, the car was impounded

There was no way for me to avoid being grounded

My parents had to come off from vacation to get me

I'd rather be in jail than to have my father hit me

    My parents walked in

I got my grip, I said, "Ah, Mom, Dad, how was your trip?"

They didn't speak - I said, "I want to plead my case"

But my father just shoved me in the car by my face

That was a hard ride home, I don't know how I survived

They took turns - one would beat me while the other was driving

    I can't believe it, I just made a mistake

Well parents are the same no matter time nor place

So to you all the kids all across the land

Take it from me, parents just don't understand

  6. Funny story to go with the first picture. I was standing right next to Deco Drive reporters at Dance Star and they tried interviewing Deep Dish, ( of course Deco had no clue who Deep Dish was) but then Sharam grabbed Deco's mic and started interviewing Ali and also the reporter.

These 2 picture are from the small show they played at the Albion Hotel during WMC this year. It was unbelievable maybe only 200 people there.

For all the pictures if you missed it Deep Dish

  7. I got this email, any thinking of going?

    ** FELIX Da HOUSE CAT ** @ OPIUM - FRIDAY MAY 23rd **

Join us on Friday May 23rd @ OPIUM GARDEN

    for FREE Admission from 10PM - 12AM & Open Bar from 10PM - 11PM.

World Famous Superstar DJ Felix Da House Cat will be performing live in the Garden!!

==> Chicago's Felix Da House Cat may be closely identified with House music, but his most definitive records stray far away from the tradition.

His most recent album, Kittenz And Thee Glitz, covers House, Techno, Electro-everything.

Felix himself has dubbed it "dirty glam" and it's all that and more.

Mr. Mauricio will be spinning the hottest in Hip-Hop beats in the Imperial Bar.

  8. So there is no Maze this weekend. So where will the House headz be at? Sleeping in Friday resting up for Deep Dish and/ or Magical Maydaze.

Hey Saleen, how will Karma Lounge be this Friday, it looks like a good night to be there, and it is only a short drive for me:). What about some of the places in the Grove?

  9. Maze blew up last night. Defiantly the best Maze has ever seen. It has taken 6 months for Maze to make a name for itself, but Maze has arrived as a super club of South Beach. Robbie Rivera was on point the entire night and people were loving it. I also took a stroll upstairs in the room for the Hip-Hop crowd and was liking the scene there also. I like most types of music and feel the people make the night. You can bring in the best DJ's, but if people aren't having fun, it will show in attendance. Well to say the least I had a great time.

Congratulations to Eddy, the maze crew and to the Promoters Colby, Mauro, and Leon for the Main room and Chino and Omar for FUN upstairs.

All pictures from last night are up now @ tilllate . There are some great pictures of Robbie and Jimmy.

  10. I will tell you where not to park. DO NOT park in the parking lot around the bank on 20th. You will get towed, and a good night of music and free drinks will turn into shelling out $100 to get your vehicle back. As you can see, I am not too bitter about this.

  11. This would rock. Everyone has been sayin, there needs to be a change in things and from South Beach. Having more variety is great, and if Ft lauderdale starts getting better, it can only have a good effect for competition. I will be there fo' sure

  12. Man, the first post in this thread had me worried. I thought they shut down Crobar and changed it back to Cameo, just since I was there Saturday.

Well the good news is that it is still Crobar,..... but the bad news is... Memorial Day weekend it will not be the Crobar we like. I will be chillin in Ft. Lauderdale that weekend :). How about we take over Riverfront!

  13. I am not so sure about all 80's music. I think old school house, beginning electronic classics, and some other classic like some Run DMC, and breakdancin' tunes like The Adventures of Flash on the Wheels of Steel and White Lines. That would rock.

  14. This thread talking about Rockin' some Keds and Jams, got me thinking. It would be funny as hell if everyone showed up @ Space Saturday wearing there best 80's clothes. There are plenty of thrift store for this to happen. I am talking about going all out with:

Parachute pants, Overalls with one suspender hanging down, Kangaroos shoes with the little pocket, Z Cavaricci's that are "tight rolled", a green Izod shirt, a head band, and least but not least a "Michael Jackson Thriller jacket" you know the red and black ones with the zippers.

Stephan would have no clue what was going on with all these people coming up and saying "sneakers" in 80's clothing.

Most likely he won't let us in, all of us would just be hang out together outside. I am LMAO just picturing all this.

    This would be so RAD
