  3. friday, may 14th, 2004 x'ess entertainment and zentra nightclub present: Sweet & Lowdown Fridays Chicago's best hip hop and house night!! OFFICIAL GRAND OPENING OF THE GARDEN!! featuring: Johnny Fiasco / Viva Recordings Chicago Unlike most of his colleagues, Johnny Fiasco's musical background lies in rock & roll. Before turning his energies to house productions and DJing, Chicago native Johnny Fiasco (whose real last name was Lopez) started his musical escapade playing the guitar. Where most house producers draw their influence from disco and funk greats, Fiasco turns to the Police, Talking Heads, Rush, and Herbie Hancock. Fiasco's first production was for Trax Records on the track called "Zig Zag." His sophomore EP was the "Progretto Fiasco" release, which unleashed him into the big time production circles. In time, Fiasco made his way to the acclaimed Chicago house label, Cajual Records, started by the legendary Cajmere. The reputation of Cajual, and his work for the label, launched Fiasco into a catalog of singles and recordings for other labels. In April of 2000, Fiasco released his first full length mix CD, Cluster, on Afterhours. Unfortunately, the man who asked Fiasco to do the album, Andy Adams (head of Afterhours), died shortly after the request, and the album was quickly turned into a tribute album to the label runner. Dizzy / Doubledown Recordings, Lowdown Music, Flygaric Tracks The most ambitious always have goals and plans with articulate detail and passionate design. This is Dizzy, an integral part of today’s dance music scene and tomorrow’s future. As one of the West Coast’s top DJ/Remixer/Producers he also runs his two powerhouse labels Doubledown Recordings and Lowdown Music. The list of artists that have recorded on his labels or he has collaborated with is almost as long as the various countries he has played in. The list of artists reads like the who’s who of house producers such as Johnny Fiasco, Jay J, Jt Donaldson, Natural Rhythm, The Lawnchair Generals, Inland Knights, Lance De Sardi, Hipp-e, The Swirl People, Halo, Eric Davenport, Onionz and Master D just to name a few. 10. friday, april 23rd, 2004 x'ess entertainment and zentra nightclub present: Ron Carroll & George Jackson's B Day Bash!! featuring: Cece Peniston Just a few words to encompass the multi-talented entertainer and Internationally supreme recording artist CECE PENISTON. Her first single ever released in 1991, Finally, immediately thrust her into the music industry world-wide and CeCe has continued with success ever since. She is the girl that was born in Dayton, Ohio and spent her formative years in Phoenix, Arizona. She has had her presence and voice requested personally by Aretha Franklin for Aretha's private birthday party in Detroit, Pope John Paul II in Rome at The Vatican and the country of South Africa to be historically the first female entertainer to visit and perform after the abolition of apartheid, before fellow recording artist Whitney Houston. CeCe began her recording career, after she graduated from Phoenix College, at A&M Records with her debut album, Finally, selling one million plus copies and achieving U.S. RIAA GOLD certification. Her first single, Finally, achieved Billboard #1 chart status and has sold multi-platinum world-wide, in addition to being featured on more than thirty compilation albums. CeCe thrust passed the one-hit wonder mark and continued to achieve Billboard Top Ten chart status with singles including: "We Got A Love Thang", "Keep On Walkin", I'm Not Over You" and her new hit single released in 2001 titled "Lifetime To Love" which skyrocketed to Billboard #2 chart status. All of her other singles released have achieved Top 40 status including: "Inside That I Cried", "Crazy Love", "I'm In The Mood", "Hit By Love", "Movin' On", "Before I Lay (You Drive Me Crazy)" with MCA recording artist JoJo of KC & JoJo, "I Know That He Loves Me Too" and "Nobody Else". Ron Carroll Starting off his career in the early 1980’s spinning at his own dance club The Bangin’ Enterprize on the South Side of Chicago, Ron Carroll, just two years into the game, was opening for Lil’ Louis, Mike Dunn, and the legendary Ron Hardy. From his beginnings in House Music he wanted to use his experience singing in the church choir and sing Gospel lyrics over House tracks. From this desire came his early work on Clubhouse Records in collaboration with Ron Trent, Big ED, Hula & K. Fingers on tracks like “My Prayer” and “A New Day”. Wanting to branch out on his own, he headed to the 1994 WMC and crossed paths with none other than his musical mentor, Little Louie Vega. This working friendship gave him the chance to write a Billboard #1 Dance Hit “I Get Lifted” for Barbara Tucker. He then teamed up with Mike Dunn and Byron Stingily as the Deep Soul Production Company and went on to write six songs on Byron’s “The Purist” full-length on Nervous Records working alongside such producers as Frankie Knuckles, Mousse T. & Boris Dlugosh, Marc Kitchen, and Maurice Joshua. In that same production company he worked with Destiny’s Child, Adeva, Kim English, Kathy Brown, and many others. George Jackson George Jackson has had DJ residencies and guest spots in some of Chicago’s hottest nightclubs such as The Sidecar, Red Dog, Prop House, Detour and others. He has been a resident DJ for The Prop House, Hidden Lounge, and The Upstairs Lounge. In 2001, George’s DJ highlight sparked an unforgettable experience when he DJ’ed in Sydney, Australia. He was added to the schedule to do a 2-hour set at Tankclub (located in The Establishment Hotel). After receiving many encores during his set, it turned into a 5 hour set; and also led to a standing ovation at the end of his set. The word spread to Melbourne, Australia, and three days later, he was asked to do a set at the now defunct, Chevron Nightclub. 14. friday, april 9th, 2004 x'ess entertainment and zentra nightclub present: Boy George "Third Times A Charm" Tour To All Zentra Nightclub Patrons & Boy George Supporters: The purpose of this is to convey our sincere apologies for any inconvenience to all whom attended any or both Boy George scheduled deejay events. On Friday, March 12th, 2004 at 7:48 pm Boy George cancelled his debut at Zentra Nightclub. A show that could and would have been a MUST SEE deejay set of the year wasn't. With only 12 minutes remaining until the doors opened one can only hope for a miracle to occur. The show was cancelled due to severe wind factors in New York, causing all outgoing flights to be delayed a minimum of 6 hours. The delay which should have ONLY been 6 hours ended being more, therefore, the show had to be cancelled. The cancelled show was a shock to everyone, including Zentra's entire staff. No one knew, nor was informed until a few minutes before the club actually opened. Nonetheless, to all his loyal fans, to all Zentra regulars, and to all who came for a weeknight of exhilaration… the show must go on! Because of this serious misfortune, and as a testament to our appreciation of you as our customer, we are going to provide you with delicious goodies and free giveaways the night of the rescheduled Boy George “3rd Times A Charm Tour,” which will take place Friday, April 9th, 2004. We assure you that this incident is NOT typical Zentra Nightclub behavior. We hold our credibility extremely high and wish for this never to have take place. We continue to be committed in providing our customers with the highest standards of service in the industry and welcome you with open hours on any other night, aside from the rescheduled performance. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to call our office Monday through Friday 9am to 5pm 312.787.0400. Respectfully, Robert Panczuk Jr. GENERAL MANAGER Zentra Nightclub featuring: Boy George aka b. George O'Dowd, 14 June 1961, Eltham, Kent, England. During the early 80s O'Dowd became a regular on the London "New Romantic" club scene. His appearances at clubs such as Billy's, Blitz, Heaven and Hell were regularly featured in the pages of magazines such as Blitz and The Face. Flaunting a series of flamboyant cross-dressing styles he caught the attention of pop svengali Malcolm McLaren who enrolled him to appear alongside Bow Wow Wow's Annabella Lu Win, as Lieutenant Lush, at a concert at London's Rainbow Theatre. This partnership proved short-lived but useful as George's name was pushed further into the spotlight. A meeting with former disc jockey Mikey Craig (b. 15 February 1960, Hammersmith, London, England; bass) resulted in the forming of a band, In Praise Of Lemmings. After the addition of former Adam And The Ants drummer Jon Moss (b. 11 September 1957, Wandsworth, London, England; drums) plus Roy Hay (b. 12 August 1961, Southend-on-Sea, Essex, England; guitar, keyboards), the group was renamed Culture Club. To the public, however, Culture Club was, to all intents and purposes, Boy George, and his appetite for publicity and clever manipulation of the media seemed effortless. His barely concealed homosexuality, though no problem to his many fans, caused considerable comment in the tabloid press. Ultimately, however, it was not his sexuality but his involvement with drugs that brought his downfall. A week after he teased journalists with the proclamation that he was "your favourite junkie" at an anti-apartheid concert in London, the British national press revealed that he was indeed addicted to heroin. No sooner had this episode hit the headlines than another scandal broke. A visiting New York keyboard player, Michael Rudetski, died of a heroin overdose while staying at George's London home. Soon afterwards, George was arrested on a charge of possession of cannabis, resulting in successful treatment for his drug dependence. His public renouncement of drugs coincided with the dissolution of Culture Club and the launch of a solo career. His debut effort, a cover version of the Bread/Ken Boothe hit, "Everything I Own", in the spring of 1987, gave him his first UK number 1 since "Karma Chameleon" in 1983. George's outspoken opposition to the Conservative government's anti-homosexual bill, Clause 28, triggered a series of releases damning the bill. He formed his own record label, More Protein, in 1989, and fronted a band, Jesus Loves You, which reflected his new-found spiritual awareness and continuing love of white reggae and soul. Releases with the E-Zee Possee, meanwhile, demonstrated his increasing involvement in the UK's club scene. His pop career was revived in 1992 by a cover version of "The Crying Game", which was featured in the hit movie of the same name. Cheapness And Beauty was a blend of punky glam pop, at odds with his perceived 90s image of fading superstar. The songs, co-written with guitarist John Themis, were the result of a more confident Boy George, altogether more comfortable with his publicly gay persona and completely free of heroin addiction. The album was preceded by an unlikely cover version of Iggy Pop's "Funtime", while its release date in 1995 coincided with the publication of the artist's self-deprecating autobiography. Now recognised as a leading dance music DJ, George contributed vocals to a drum 'n' bass version of "Police And Thieves", released by London dance collective Dubversive in 1998. He has also produced, often in collaboration with Pete Tong, several mix compilations for the Ministry Of Sound label. Ashish Shah / X'ESS Ashish Shah has been a household name to the art of deejaying here in Chicago since the early nineties. In the beginning, Ashish grabbed any opportunity to perform in front of a live audience, and many of his early experiences came in the form of private parties, family gatherings, etc. It wasn't until 1995 that this talented "bedroom" jock was given the chance to prove himself. Venus Nightclub, in Schaumburg, IL, decided to put their stock in Ashish, and since then, he has been rocking the spot ever since. While attending the college of DuPage and DePaul University in Chicago, Ashish Shah was exposed to many new and talented artists that would help shape his musical style that we have come to expect from Mr. Shah. Since his debut gig at Venus, Ashish Shah has managed to secure slots with some of the most well known, and influential DJ's in the realm of Electronica. These artists include such artists as Paul Van Dyk (The Riv & Transit Nightclub - Chicago), Paul Oakenfold (Vision - Chicago), Jerry Bonham (Texture - Austin, TX), Deep Dish (Transit - Chicago), and many more. In addition to his prolific Dj'ing career, Ashish is a well-versed entrepreneur. As one of two co-owners of Cellar Restaurant & Lounge in Chicago in 2001, Ashish has been learning and growing his business knowledge in order to take things to the next level. X'ESS Entertainment, one of the premier promotional companies in Chicago, is owned by Ashish and partner Jon Huang as well, and he has managed to propel X'ESS (www.xessentertainment.com) into the elite tier of predominantly house oriented promotional companies in a little over one year's time, a truly remarkable task in such a musically oriented city! To add to Ashish's list of successful ventures, he is also co-owner of X'ESS Salon & Spa in Bloomingdale, IL. 18. friday, march 19th, 2004 x'ess entertainment and zentra nightclub present: Flavor of the Month featuring BASS-ZOOKA "FLAVOR OF THE MONTH" is the third Friday of every month theme event that guarentees to take your 5 senses on a roller coaster ride throughout the night. From the SIGHT of the outstanding decorations and sexy bartender garments; to the SMELL & TASTE of the savory scents & boatloads of sweets; listening to the SOUNDS of some of the best music CHICAGO has to offer...makes you want to reach out and TOUCH somebody! This Event is a mixture of BAZOOKA BUBBLE GUM & TERRIFIC CHICAGO HOUSE and HIP-HOP TALENT. Keep an eye out for the future FLAVOR OF THE MONTH Events. CHECK, CHECK, CHECK IT OUT!!!! Featuring: Tony Humpries Tony Humphries has entertained dance music fans across the globe with his “Hump-in-the-Homefries” brand of uptempo soul music. This Brooklyn, New York native landed his first “professional” DJ gig at Manhattan’s posh Club El Morocco in 1975. From there Tony’s trek to Boystown a.k.a. Club Tribeca NY, NY would prove successful, where he was then recognized as a talented DJ. In July 1981, producer Shep Pettibone asked Tony for a mastermix show tape to fill in for a no show on his KISS-FM NY radio show. A vacancy left by Pettibone at the station opened the door for his own permanent mix show. Simultaneously, schooled under the “I’ll-leave-you-in-the-booth-and-see-what-happens” antics of resident DJ Larry Patterson of NJ’s Club Zanzibar fame, resulted in him gaining “THE” residency in 1982. Developing his creative experiences behind the recording studio’s control board only enhanced his style and magic. Artists like Mtume (Tonys’ first gold record “Juicy Fruit”), Chaka Khan, Karen White, Regina Belle, Donna Summer, Jungle Brothers, Queen Latifah, and The Cover Girls were all governed by the “Humphries handicraft”. By the mid to late 80’s, Tony became the sole helmsman weaving the tunes three nights a week, thus making dance music superstars out of local talent embedded in the heartland of Newark and her surrounding areas. Summoned across the Atlantic by the British in 1987. The “Jersey Sound” was coined by their press. In addition to traveling, remix projects mounting, pumping out a weekly radio mix show, and holding down the fort at the club, Tony was in his prime making the world of dance music exciting, hip, and refreshing. By November 1990, his 8 year tenure ended with a tearful refrain, but this didn’t discourage Tony as he became in demand worldwide and relocated to London, England. In January of 1993, Tony took up the offer to be the resident jock at the Ministry of Sound club. That year was rounded off with a residency at “Echoes” in Rimini, Italy. This Italian residency continued for 4 years while simultaneously relocating back in NJ to launch his Yellorange Production Co. It can be said that Tony Humphries has left an unerasable impression on the global dance music industry. To date over 300 venues he has gigged worldwide, done over 200 studio remixes, the latest being Janet Jackson’s hit “Together Again”. Throughout tremendous recognition, tons of awards and accolades from his peers, he has remained humble. Paul Anthony Hailing from the Chicago-land area, it was easy to seee how house music had an influence on Paul early in his career. Paul began perfecting his deejay craft in 1989 as a teenager playing local clubs and house parties. Even back then it was easy to see that Paul would emerge as a force in the Chicago music scene. Paul had become a sought after deejay, even back then, he could incite a crowd into a dance frenzy. Searching for a way to channel his love for Chicago house music Paul began attending some of Chicago's underground electronic events in 1997. There he watched as deejays such as Sneak, Derrick Carter, Terry Mullin, Dave Clark sent the crowd into another place spiritually. Paul knew where he wanted to take his career, to the underground scene. Paul began promoting himself to major Chicago production teams such as Boogietribe, Vibonauts, and N'Joy. After much hard work Paul finally received his chance while playing for a major Chicago event for Boogietribe. There, Paul wasted no time convincing the masses that he belonged. The reviews said it all. "Paul Anthony stole the show with his set-starting scratch assault." and " Chicago has a new house player." This would only be the beginning. The attention had continued to grow into 2001 as Paul Anthony was feature in Underground Construcion's "Four X's Harder" mix compilation. The cd was available across the nation and gave Paul more exposure throughout the electronic music scene. Paul's notorious scratch wasn't the only thing that people were talking about. His track selection and the ability to get his hands on hard-to-find vinyl which made him one of those deejay's deejay. Everyone wanted to know what Paul was spinning, which was evident in the many over the shoulder label readers Paul had to deal with. The education into house music was made by Paul working at the legendary Chicago record store The Hip House, a store where many Chicago deejay legends got there start. Angel Alanis, Dj Sneak, and Halo to name a few. There Paul was the house music buyer. Over the years Paul has played for many major event promoters across the nation sharing the main stage with legends such as Bad Boy Bill, Dj Sneak, Derrick Carter, Casjmere, Ritchie Hawtin, Armand Van Helden, Rabbit and the Moon, Gene Farris, Skylab 2000, KRS-1, etc...... Paul looks to the future and his career with a positive approach. New projects include producing tracks on his own record label, Fabric Records and touring the country on the Planet Bass Tour with Nigel Richards, Dj Funk, skylab2000,and Michael Myers. When booking Paul Anthony, expect the very best house music has to offer. One wouldn't call Paul Anthony just a deejay but rather a performer because when Paul comes to the decks, the first beat drops, the vicious scratch begins, all eyes will be on PAUL ANTHONY.
