HOUSE DANCING and GUIDO DANCING, there is a difference
afa8317 replied to silverbull's topic in New York / New Jersey
The trueth is the SF shuffle is house dance. It uses jack and shufles, even if it is simple and very repetative. The use of the fundamental of house dance the"Jack" qualifies it as house dance. For those of you that do not know what "jack" is the bouncing movement of house dance. -
DT sucks stay home kids... Let all of us with bad taste in music enjoy the dance floor. That way he doesn't have to play all that noise and we can listen to quality music like at Cielo.

Boris' 2-Yr Anniversary @ crobar, Sat 5/13
afa8317 replied to Dee Phunk's topic in New York / New Jersey
I got to admit. I hit up a boris party not to long a go and had a good time. -
He doesn't do the underground thing anymore. The guy wants to make money; think DJ AM with a house edge. Not my thing but it appeals to the masses.

You missed my point but, its cool. Parties are about getting crazzy, enjoying your self. Drugs are not to blame for bad parties. Since the origin of house the drugs have been there, but the music still was the center of attention. If these people didn't care for the music, just the drugs they would stay home and get tweaked. My Question is where is the resident DJ? The DJ that would give you a solid set week in, week out. Oh ,and your right Morillo should get an opening DJ, a guest DJ what ever you want to call it. But there is no need for bomb after, bomb in a set. It is about flow, building and sustaining the energy. Finding that balance so, that there isn't a crazzy climax.

This is not an attack on you personally , but this is whats wrong with the scene. How can a NY DJ spin to much in his own city? What ever happened to the resident DJ? NY doesn't apply this anymore, all these big names want to draw huge crowds with monthly parties. Please you have to perform, put something together, create a sound. It is like they all have lost it the big guys DT, Morillo, JP these guys used to hold NY down weekly. Thursday, Friday, Saturday non stop killer sets, even JP. It seems all New York has on the hard edge of house is Calderone and this cat is only a monthly. On the other side of house we still got the Roots party and Shelter delivering true resident DJs; but the after hours club scene is week on the home grown music department. The clubs are full but the DJs are not delivering.

Over Priced And Borring
-
They drop BOMBS at Shelter... Tribal tech what ever they are tracks that will move any crowd.

The new spot is a lil tight but it has more vibe then the old space. Timmy was solid but Sting International is no joke. The lounge down stairs seems like its going to be the spot where the dancers are going to hold it down. But they need to add a better system to the down stairs. I want to check it out on a normal night just to get a real feel for the party.

TOM STEPHAN aka SUPERCHUMBO @ ASSETERIA :: Sunday April 30

There I need a good tribal fix. -
Classic A work recognized as definitive in its field: having lasting significance or worth. Would a JP set be considered a definitive of house. No, JP could never put together a set that would define house. House is a music to broad for a niche DJ like JP to even consider him self capable of setting the standard. What JP does define is a short era where house and commercial America collided at a club on 47Th st. There the American ideal of bigger is better, took the genre we call house to the faster harder roller coster. As, the patrons pursued the bigger better mentality as well. Some got juiced up, others got stuffed with silicone and collagen, Some traded there penises for vaginae and larger hips. Creating a carnival atmosphere fueled by fast music and even faster drugs. Yes, JP's sets are a definitive of 47Th st. under the Sound Factory emblem but not of house as a genre.

Roger Sanchez Blew The Roof Off Of Cielo Last Night

Mid size is good like Vinyl, Centro or Disco. Cielo is just to small I can take one leap and cross their dance floor. -
Love pulling in a drinking crowd.
