  1. seaman played great. he was more energetic than Ive ever seen him. he actually mixed tracks all night- the last few years he'd been letting songs all play out til the end!! phil K was a real disppointment. really, how many breaks tracks can u stand one after the other? best was beasties intergalactic breaks mix. BUT Phil did get seaman to return to his hot form he used to bring to twilo like 99-00. seaman has tons of great records & he was playing all night in a progressive house-trance-euro style that was fast melodic deep n hard. i guess if u buy the renaissance therapy cd (seaman & phil mixes) you will hear all these killer trax seaman was banging sat night. I got the feeling these 2 have been playing together a ton this year and actually they tagged A LOT more than once-- phil opened, closed & came on at least 2 times in middle. seaman def rocked it- I like the records he's playing in 2004. harder than a lot of the light pop trance he was playing 2-3 years back. the staff was nicer this time. the place is a dump with puke on the floor and the grossest bathroom since exit. the sound was ok but needs EQ or balance or something. at least it was loud. ***1/2
  2. "DJ HEATHER" is on Nordic trax records, u can google & look up her new mix cd & pics. she plays worldwide incl UK essential mix. She is african-american. She is associated with chicago 7 the Chicago house scene where she lives. "Heather Heart" is an NYC DJ, techno I think. she came out of the sonic groove crew and I believe she is caucasion. I think both are Brooklyn/born??
  3. DJ Heather's set at Sullivan saturday night was extraordinary. She has risen several notches to join the utmost elite House DJs alive. Her record selection is mouth watering, seemingly every major Chicago house 12" SINCE 1994 AT LEAST. and her percussive mixes to introduce new tunes is one of the most dynamic and distinctive techniques Ive heard since Derrick carter & DJ Sneak sets. Heather deserves to be listed among those exalted names from now on. She also smoothes it out with some midtempo r&b and then brings the hard beats back in again & again. Sullivans subterranean environs and a cool, music-oriented crowd made for a true house party with the freshest sounds, , the likes of which i havent seen since the early/mid-90s rave days when juan atkins or todd terry would play their disco-y soul tunes for a knowledgable and intimate warehouse/loft crowd. anyone wlucky enough to attend sullivan on saturday knows what Im talking about: the mood was infectious and heather's soundtrack and skills made it an outta sight night. We've got to bring Heather back to NYC more often, she has reached the uper echelon of house DJs and is ready to show NYC, USA & the world that House music is our past our present & definitely our future. Heather's music & skills are inspiring and mightily impressive.
  4. hernan cattaneo diggers lawler burridge howells dave ralph
  5. it's ON!! Heather & dave hollands!! 10-5. peas
  6. on the positive side, an underperforming night from sander is still better than 90%+ of the Djs alive....his approach at crobar was more on the breaks/beats/rhytmic textures side...he keeps that beat going so strong that you dont even notice how technically skilled he is at banging one record into the next- its subtle. on the down side, that was NOT the sander that won our hearts many a time at vinyl/arc. this was a physical sander set, not the uplifting, inspiring, transcendant progressive/house/trance style that made sander one of the most respected DJs alive. there was seriously ONE vocal house track that radiated the melody and energy that his sets used to have for several hours. and ONE trance-y track that sounded so sweet after several hours of the bang bang. his set was like one long set up rhythmic pattern that left one waiting for the climactic bomb tracks that were supposed to be coming. digweed does that, howells & burridge will whip out dirty-bass killers....sander didnt pull out those crescendo records friday. some of the rhythm pattern were interesting, banging 2 percussive tracks against each other...other times sander's cool interplay of 2 songs at once was undermined by fuzzy sound. lawler had crisper sound at crobar. sander had the volume, but his combinations of 2 tracks sounded buzzy & distorted at times. better than 90% of the DJs on earth? YES. Did sander show what he's capable of?? NO.
  7. sander was OK at crobar but actually he only played about 3 major major tracks. otherwise he did a lot of percussive style beats, im accustomed to more melody from him...the hard beats he cooked up reminded me of digweed's set up records but Sander didnt kill with climaxes the way Diggers, and sander at times, can. the best tunes were some vocal-housey tracks and a trance number of sorts, the crowd was really pumping the whole way from 1;30-6 but while sander's set was beat-heavy, i didnt feel the transcendant heavenly music he sometimes brought at arc. lawler's set at crobar was 1000% better and hernan cattaneo at centrofly and burridge last time at arc played in a similar style to sander but they brought the melody, basslines & bombs. I didnt think it was sander's best night, altho the club was hopping and the 4/4 was very danceable. m just acccustomed to more melody & lift from sanders best sets. curious what others thought: there were a few arc-o-lytes in the house for sure....
  8. On SULLIVAN ROOM's webpage, they list DJ HEATHER (Nordic Trax) at Sullivan Saturday April 10. Is this booking still on?? If so, i'm surprised no one has mentioned it: Heather is one of the best Chicago House DJs, and she rarely comes to NYC [even tho she's a Brooklyn native--fact!]. The sets I've heard from Heather over the last year have been nothing short of fantastic, [including an Essential Mix that made all of the UK sit up and dance] she has polished her technique like never before and her record bag seems to contain every Chicago jackin' funky house 12" since 1994 at least!! This lady pulls out rhythmic bombs lefT AND RIGHT, AND THE WAY SHE MIXES THEM UP WILL HAVE YOU SAYING 'I see why she's been playing alongside Derrick Carter almost weekly for 5 years": Heather has reached the upper echelons of Chicago House DJs and anybody who cares about the past present & future of the almighty House That Jack Built will represent and come correct for Heather at Sullivan Room saturday night--that is if we can get a confirmation that this booking is still on!! It's on SULLIVAN ROOM's website! What time does the headline DJ usually start at Sullivan? How late does the room go;: 4:00 am...??? thanks!!!!
  9. Ive always liked Morales' remixes but he REALLY shows his stuff live--like at Spirit saturday night. he has excellent taste in house music and I agreed with a large proportion of his discs. y kno smtimes ull hear a dj and you like maybe 1 song an hour?? Now morales. e can play back to back to back smashes. and its in his 'sound' that NY smooth funky house with vocals and melodies: its disco as we loved it 7 still live it. hes really good. along with the NYC trinity of DT & JNR david morales shld be esteemed as a like minded hero. the crowd at spirit was cute. the staff was efficient: there were some friendly managers and a few oppressive bouncers. the promotion staff is seasoned and generous. as sprit brings back top takent i will return with cash in hand. junior shld play at least once monthly on the main floor. oh the sound should be chked by the crobar or arc sound guys: spirits sound was too distorted needs balance overall Morales made our night. ****xxxxx****
  10. peas is a funny way of saying "PEACE" and then add carrots for that vegetarian friendly salad vibe! )))) kept me dancing at spirit from 1:-ish to 6 am !!!!
  11. I really liked Morales' music. He's one of best vocal house DJs. I liked some of his progressive tracks, works nice in his style but obvs other DJs will go a lot harder. I liked the crowd, pretty friendly and energetic, lots of cute babes. Door was no prob for me- comp. Security was too intrusive, always saying cant stand in front of speaker. I agree Morales was killing from 1:30-4- ish, then got unpredictable- rudderless- and too pop. I dont need Eurhythmics sweet dreams anymore. There were a couple played out songs like "Finally' sure it was great in 2000 but its overcooked. Morales played half great stuff 4:-6-ish. the other half was less hot. overall I had a great time, i like his general house style, melodic, rhythmic, disco-y. When Spirit brings in top class talent like Morales I'll be back. if uv never heard Morales play out live, youre missing out. I think he plays a better house style than Morillo: Morales ear for melody and DJ skills are serious business. peas n carrots
  12. based on my previous experiences with DJ slots at crobar: I'd estimate sander comes on 1:- ish and should throw down til at least 5;-ish: mayber even 5:30/ 6: if the crowd stays & is hot: as we well shld be!! sander= de Mann!!!!
  13. excellent Truly excellent and solid set by howells. What a way to close out his arc 'home' residency. one of the more packed saturdays I've been to in Arc history. definite 'up for it' crowd vibe in general. My primetime was 2-ish to 7-ish and DH kept us dancing pretty much the whole way. His sound: I wld characterize last night's set as generally in DHs tech-house style. At times (like 6-7) wld say he played a few harder techno tunes. He even broke out some uplifting trance-y tracks maybe 4-5 am?? They worked great cos he set them up with harder progressive tech-house/euro-disco lead-ins & lead outs. 1 or 2 tracks even had that mid-90s progg sound like on DH's Jackpot CD. The mix of tech-house and a few progg/trancers reminded me of when I first heard DH out at twilo, was it 1999-2000? and then in miami at shadow lounge 2000-01 when he played firmly tech-house. As we know, over the course of his Arc residency DH constantly surprised us with his diverse tracks & styles. His solid tech-house set last night worked so well. despite the packed house, the vibe was super UP and almost everyone was cheerful and generally polite. I did find the 4 or so SF juice head types with their shirts off to be out of place, that doesnt look like DH's crowd or vibe at all. I'd even like a rule at MADE's next venue: YOU MUST KEEP YOUR SHIRT ON. wear a halter top or a wife beater or even a ciut off tee: but you have to keep your shirt on. Overall, excellent set from DH and an equally good crowd, despite packed conditions and a very few rude/SF shirtless rubes. awaiting DH's NEXT NYC date!!!!!!
  14. sander can do it. regarding lawler vs sasha/diggers at wmc: I heard better things about lawler's miami set. In nyc I only caught lawler-- believe me I wish id heard S&D here too!!
  15. sander is one of the best DJs for a couple years now, his arc sets have thrilled & then some. wmc too. crobar is an awesome place to hear music , espec the sharp friday crowd. steve lawler laid down the best NYC set of 2004 there & sander has a shot to top it. this is MAJORRR!!!!
  16. any body caught John "OO" Fleming?? Hes headlinging Arc Saturday night.... whats his sound?? worth checking out?? Caught him before?? thanks in advance
