  1. spirit sucks and its horrible that made promotes there. hernan at crobar was fantastic. crobar is the best club of 2004. Im disappointed that made has lowered themselves to spirit level.
  2. best track is SUEDE 'everything will flow' ROLLO's mixes. underground classic in nyc, miami, london etc etc
  3. reid speed penelope tuesdae paris hilton anouck lepere sandy collins janice long meg griffin alison steele [rip] carol miller justine d.
  4. s-man did read that room perfectly and played just the right style of cozy warm house. it seemed to speak to everyone on a soulful level, cielo is the perfect size small music venue where every person counts & roger delivered exactly the right feel there. i loved his deep & funky house, espec the instrumentals. i thought sm of his tracks were too much vocally radio house from the 90s...I guess he wanted to play a very familiar warm set it certainly pleased everyone but I liked the deep instrumentals much more. however his skills were on display like ive never heard before. he really is technically brilliant, the way he introduces records and then brings them down and back up, his precision was amazing. frequently he was playing 2 records u knew together and yet it matched perfectly. I think the more modern records he played his last set at cielo were better, but as an event Id have to rate both of these 2 cielo s-man gigs as both really really good. the crowd was sharp & polite- friendly, feeling the warmth of roger's music. cielo might be the best setting to hear house music. you know its a great night when u stay til the very last song- about 4:20 in this case. i think his spirit set earlier in the year may have been musically better, he played some progressive & tech-house then that really took the crowd to another level. but then again hearing him at cielo creates a warm family vibe that may be a more enjoyable experience overall. sanchez has been famous & successful a long time but until you hear what he can do on the decks you really cant iamgine what a talent & cool person he is. he speaks through his music & his message is as spiritual & heartfelt as true house music can be. 7.5 out of 10.
  5. yeah that was an incredible night. great music in 3 rooms. junior v headlines. great crowd too.
  6. 1) lawler march [wmc set] 2) sander [summer] 3) disgraceland outsider fest- junior vasquez #2 4) roger sanchez summer 5) disgraceland opening night junior sanchez 6) morillo spring 7) disgraceland junior vasquez #1
  7. studio 54 was the best club ever i went there at least 50 times.
  8. even tho sanchez is in the top 20 djs worldwide , smhow he doesnt get the props his skills & sets deserve. wheh hes good he can move you all night & combine many styles. totally pro & soulful too. once at spirit he played too much KTU/ LCD for the guids but equally his crobar sets have been excellent. i cannot wait til his late decmber date s- man = COOL!!!!
  9. saint had sm good nights in 80s, fridays as i recall?? the studio 54 balcony was the wildest. but xenon & NY NY too. and tunnel 80s/90s. and limelight early 90s
  10. The Only thing to Say is BOOK MORILLO ONE MORE TIME AT CROBAR!! welcome home erick !!
  11. once DT has a residency in nyc again [even a monthly or twice/monthly like at spirit or crobar or sumpin] maybe he can establish a 'home' vibe again. i know with DT coming on at 430-5 am after dealing with mad crowds at roxy...its so far away from the vinyl vibe... i think DT all nite at spirit will show us what the future holds...the roxy 1-offs have been a mixed bag but at least DT 4th of july was bangin [no cox tho ] and lawler ruled weds night. DT will pick it back up but we need that regular 'nyc family' vibe back... its hasnt felk like that since the roxy partys started see u at spirit....
  12. i heard him spin 3+ hours at centrofly twice in 2003. havent heard him since a year ago at exit but usually he has sm banging tracks on the progg tip. and of course the melodic trance. I will see oakey again but i had other parties the last 2 times he played nyc- I went to driick carter at avalon in summer & DT/lawler thisd week as opposed to seeing oakey. i didnt mind the sacrifice. Im sure lawler was at least as goos as oakey is pron better
  13. DT & LAWLER REVIEW -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- lawler is incredible. he hit sm records like at 2 : and 3: am that were intense. progg house with giant basslines. his drums buildup at about 3:45 was major. I loved him at crobar in march but the peaks of this roxy set were poss even better. i liked everything he played, literally from first discs i heard at 11 until DT came by at 4:30. incl remixes of 'last night dj saved life' and a techy remix of trisco's muzak that was a bomb. he also played a remix of 'reap' [lil mo yin yang] that was so intense he & DT brought it back when they were trading off. DT is playing awfully techno these days. i mean he's always had that segment in his arsenal but why is he going so hard so much? truthfully when they went head to head lawler had the dirty bombs. DT whipped out 'be yrself ' theme but he seemed to be doing a lot of percussive/filtered segues that lawler actually took to a better place. the crowd- this was a better crowd than DT/howells. it did get too insanely sardine crowded by 5: i did smell the cologne!! near the sky box/steps area. yeah there were alot of guidos/SF looking guys. but i thought over all it was an UP crowd. i had a blast. i met a lot of new friends and we were all enjoying the holiday celebration. you know DT is our fave DJ and prob the best in usa if not the world but truth to tell lawler did better last night. still I'll be hitting up DT Spirit, IMO when DT plays all night incl warming up for himself THAT is the DT that is the best. he really feels the flow of the night and DT's gradual build/intensity is 1 reason he's THE master. DT had to follow up a blinding set by lawler and i didnt think his hard techno filtered was speaking to the crowd. I dont mind DT's 'trance' tunes but if I cld choose I like DT's deep hard house & progressive and his the funky & soulful vocal house that were his signature sound in 90s he can pull out & mix like basically the worlds best DJ. which he may still be but lawler has devastated me two times this year and I wld put lawler crobar & lawler roxy as arguably the 2 best sets I heard all year. [off top my head best sets i heard besides lawler were hernan at centrofly in spring {hernans' trance is more interesting tha DT's} and DJ Vibe at Spirit [also Vibe sounded a lot like DT's vinyl/arc sound, progressive & housey with hot drums & bass] in the spring/summer might have been the best I heard all year, or lawler equalled that twice. I bet DT brings back is twilo/tunnel/vinyl sound at Spirit. that was/is HIS room!! i thought most of the bouncers were cool, talked to several. the lounge room area guy was great. BUT there was a heavyset fellow in the bathroom with glasses who was actually physically intimidating people. I dont mind him kicking girls out of the mens [altho i dont mind them, if girls line is 20 mins long] but his repeatedly sadistic fascism of 'I did not ask you for any commentary, are you doing to use the john or are you looking for a confrontation with me' was shockingly hardcore & I dont know why he had to take it to that level. like he was looking for a showdown or worse? insane (( its the opposite of courtesy & I didnt observe any patron's rude bathroom behaviour which is why his dictatorial model was so shocking & unfriendly & inappropriate. lawler played a billion times better than howells at roxy this year. the DT/howells crowd was horrible & debauched, last night was a lot friendlier & UP cos lawler is a feel-good DJ. I hope lawler & DT go head to head again cos u know DT CAN be better than lawler he just wasnt last night. I think DT's spirit dec gig may show us why DT isour fave DJ & the best in usa if not the world. now how about a DT/COX rematch? or DT/digweed again? I suspecvt DT will bring his best tech-house set to play with cox and if you remember the housey/progg/deep stuff he played with Digweed, well THAT is the DT sound that made twilo and THAT is what i hope DT brings out at spirit. rating: 8-1/2 for the night on a 10 scale. Id give lawler by himself 9 or 9+
  14. at centro oakey played at least 3 hours twice. once almost 4 hrs actually i also was at marc ballrm, bowery ballroom & roxy where he played full sets, again betw 3-4 hrs. starting about 2001 he made 2 hrs flat his standard but he also breaks that rule from time to time. crobar? i think youre looking at betw 2-3 hrs. smtimes he starts at 12:30.
  15. sounds good- just a tip: A/X [armani exchange ] is CHEAP armani- you gotta go to the ARMANI store on madison & 65th - his black label RULES otherwise youre spoyt on- *peas*
  16. ""Go fuck yourself you loser!! I don't go there to be seen. I wanted to wear comfortable cloth so I can dance my ass off. People like you is the reason the club scene in nyc sucks.
  17. Im glad Crobar rejects badly dressed people. Its a classy club. last friday spirit had the worst crowd of 2004, all mooks and asian rape dancers. The spirit staff shld hv rejected them. Im glad crobar refuses badly dressed people. maybe youll buy sm nice clothes now & wear them. FIVE STARS FOR CROBAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  18. I am definitely not a racist & I think m polite 98% of the time at clubs but the asian invasion was out of control at spirit on friday. that shaking dance obvs shows how f*cked out of their heads the asians are and they definitely try to pull sm 'this is our club area' ostracism and overt rudeness & meanness to non-asians. its sickening & it was a big reason that dj vibes beautiful music was ruined at spirit on friday. also that spirit lets any old trash in a bunch of sf mooks is just as bad as an army of asian shaking dancers. crobar is 1000X better club than spirit cos they exert better crowd control & selection. and its much nicer designwise- spirit & avalon might be the most uncomfortable clubs in nyc right now. i swore off avalon after seeing pools of puke at dave seaman and i think ive sworn off spirit except for certain one-off events taht wont be drawing the asian shakers or nj mook crowds. thank god for crobar- their bookings, crowd control, sel;ectivity & class. class- what spirit & the friday night crowd majorly lacked.
  19. junior already will go down as one of the graetest djs ever in dance music history- top 10- easily. the fact that he's still making history & brilliant records remixes & sets & events in his 6th decade only shows that he's 1 on 100 billion and simply better than almosy any dj that ever lived.
  20. just a question- what is this shaking dance that the asians seem to like so much? it looks like an assault/sex crime. since you mention culture what is it with huge groups of asians [or phillippini or koreans] taking over sizable portions of a club and acting rudely or worse to any non-asian who happens to be near 'their' area? it happened last night at the right side of the stage near the bar. it was a an asian convention. youre telling me youve never seen the behaviour Im describing here at any club? ie been clubbing forever and there is a certain 'look' that we call 'nj-mook-guido-sleeveless tee-gotti boys hair' and face it that element is a drag at clubs- and spirit seems to attract a ton of them incl last night. crobar is more selecetive in crowd control & its a far better club than spirit. [i hvnt gone to ikon yet cos i hv heard the mooks are all over that place.][i stopped going to avalon cos as good as dave seaman & coxy were, i cldnt stand the B&T crowd the gross club & the asian shaking rape dance] i love dj vibe but last nights crowd was 66% gross and theres no other way to say it. i hope vibe plays smwhere else next time.
  21. the quality of the attendees obvs affects the vibe & experience of a club night. spirit attracts sm real undesireables as does avalon and they make a night out unpleasant. despite vibe's music being sm of the best anywhere. it was almost hard to enjoy last night at spirit and thankfully LES was rocking hard so it was ok while they were on but i became more & more grossed out as a2 turned to 3. can you describe any diff types of sounds vibe brought out after 3:30? or it was the same type of progressive tribal he played from 2-3-??
  22. I thought Vibe played better in the summer at spirit. LES were killing with their opening set. last 1-2 hours of their set was peak haedline tunes, they are great and didnt really play warm up. so when vibe came on he had to kick tougher beats to match what LES were playing. I thought some of his records were cool rhythmically and he did play alot of tribal bottoms but I prefer his more melodic or eurodisco side. in summer he played more sweet and disco. i thought he was too much tribally progressive and not as song based as sm times. anyway I will go see him everytime hes one of the coolest djs. he played one song that a lot of trance/progg djs play I call it 'the roger tisch song' cos I dont know the name of it. but the crowd was pretty bad. i actually thought spirit on a friday wldnt have that b&t/nj/mook populace but it sure did. crobar draws a much better looking crowd. i did see a few people i knew from last time vibe at spirit & they were cool but basically i was shocked to see even 4 or 5 cute girls last night cos the crowd was so ugly and downmarket. also the 'asian' factor really got to me last night. believe me i respect every ethnic group but there was a convention of koreans & phillppini at the stage area near the bar that was acting so F*ed up. what is with that shaking dance? its not pleasant to see it looks like a sex crime is occuring. also why do the asians clustre around each other like a big convention? and why are they so unfriendly to non-asians? at a club a vibe occurs when diff races come together & accept each other openly. there was not that vibe at spirit last night. the asians commandeered one side of the club and the other side was everyone else, a few cuties & cool clubbers but a lot of mooks who are so gross with their mousse hair and sleeveless tees. i want to see vibe smwhere else like when he played at arc. i cant handle spirits downmarket crowd. anyway LES was great & i thought they played a headline set so that was almost enuf musically. as i say vibe played tougher and less melodic than i expected to i split at 3:45. im sure he played some sweeter & more euro tracks later? anyway hes one of the best djs & I will go for him everytime. spirit- that place is a dump.
