  1. 'hard body' [!] at his best hernan is one of the best djs alive. even though he didnt play that great friday he still kept us dancing from 2-6. crobar bouncers- 1 or 2 near the entrance to the prop room were surprisiongly rude friday but that is an exception in my going there for 2 years. usually ist tghe best big club staff in nyc. And its SUCCESSFUL not like those shiitholes avalon exit & spirit.
  2. morillo's energy is out of hand but you know he draws too many guidos. ive been at crobar many many times & that WAS an EXCELLENT crowd at hernan!! bopping til 6 am + still 500+ strong!! hernan was genius at centrofly in spring 04 & i loved his crobar set...late winter? i thought he played too experiemntal last night, relatively few melodies. BUT he did play big room BOOMBOOM which kept us dancing for 4+ hours straight so reeespeccct. jollins is the real deal. technical skills beyone hernan's. his opening lite-trance set was actually BETTER than hernan's set!! it was melodic & fluffy like the ;old'hernan. even tho jollins was holding back it was still melodic ride on time with some house to bring it up. only caught 20 mins of jollins at close but his tech/ tech-house was ALSO better than hernans techier trance!! make no mistake it was a great night at crobar many many hotties & for once POLITE dudes 24/7! disagree about the staff if they know you they love you. ive bewen going since crobar opening so im family by now. tempted to go back for sander/fanciulli but maybe waiting fior DT....
  3. the crowd was excellent! babes n mostly polite guys! hernan has been much better- why he decided to go tech-trance on us, i dunno but at least there were a few of his legendary spaceage world trancers like 4 am? anyway i was there from 12-6 and had a blast! i was still gyrating when jollingtook back the decks at 6 am. reesspect. more later....great night at crobe even if hernan was slightly off....
  4. hopefully he'll have an october date announced. if he played every month at crobar or morillo's factory that would be one of best news' in 2005. we all miss DT be yourself etc etc etc
  5. the re-design of spirit is awful. the crowds were generally gross, with a few exceptions. only avalong had grosser crowds. made booked some good djs, i liked junior, but crobar is 1000% better in every way. morales left for crobar. juniors crobar events were better than spirits. every week crobar is the best booking/club in nyc. I love crobar & i go to crobar. t
  6. if youre open minded to his 2005 style his 3 nyc crobar sets were among the best in nyc in 2005
  7. thanks we know how great oakey is still, even if he had a few dicey years in there from 01-03. I cant wait til he comes back for trancegiving & I might even have to go to ultra...not sure thanks
  8. any informed reviews from people who went to oakey? not dumb comments by people who weren't there. thanks
  9. what time did dt finish?? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- interesting Im a huge DT fan and have seen many many sets since old twilo & tunnel and of course tons at vinyl, arc & also in miami at space a few times. so DT has of course played some of the very greatest sets ive ever heard & many days I think hes my fave dj [sometimes I think its derrick carter, or coxy, even lawler, but usually i think DT is #1. I loved DT's crobar & the previous spirit set this year. but to me, the 6 hours I heard friday night were too hard, too techno, not as much of the progg that i love from DT. now let me say this, his skils were thoroughly amazing last night. even if I didnt like the weird tech sounds, the way he would bang into the next track perfectly was amazing. I did like his opening few tracks, very deep & soulful. then he cranked the techno up so hard & heavy until 4-5 am. my fave tracks were the progg and tech house he played betw 4;30 - 5 am. he played this epic hard trance number, with a mechanical male vocal: ID anyone? the next track was what he called 'my new fave song' and it was AWESOME!!! it sounded llike new order or kraftwerk chord progressions and some weird pitching or swirling vocal/beat effects or something. WO# that was hot! at 4:40 or so. then he played that progg/deep track '1 time for the underground'. so ILOVED the progg from 4:30-5. then he went back to the techy banging til i left at 6. also i was hanging on the sofas in the asian corner and a HUGE argument broke out at 5:15 where 10 guys were about to beat up a few others. they settled it themselves by scooting away the offensive asian(s) but it was a scary scene to see, and NO SECURITY there at all!! despite my seeing 2 other guys thrown out by the middle banquettes. what is it with the asians who come with such bad vibes? the girls seem to enjoy dancing & some of the guys are having fun but they mainly look really cracked out & have huge frowns on their faces. imo DTs last spirit set was musically better. but admittedly his mixing and skill in the techy zone was beyond amazing- its just not my fave DT style to hear. he used to play so HOUSEY at tunnel, and vinyl!! tons of sweet vocal house bombs!! now its so much hard boom boom... he played that 'this is the real life' song for about 10 mins, too hard & droning for me. why does DT try to be carl cox? coxy is the only hard techno dj that i love 100% cos he yusually whips out some disco or hard funk as the payoff. oh well. I still loved about 5 tracks on the night, 'be yourself'' was hot. had some fun dances. met some cool peeps like bryan and katie. actually the 2nd floor lounge was a nice break, heard FLASH there. made it from 12-6: but wld have stayed longer if i heard more vocals- progg- deep house. much respect to DJ DT. mixing skills on the night 4 stars of five. .music & crowd... **3/4 stars. = averages out to about ***1/2 stars overall [thats one of my lowest DT party ratings in awhile crobar birthday was ****1/2 + & last spirit be yrself anniv set was at least **** imo. ] just 1 DT fans opinion. Im sure he played the music I needed from 6-12. what time did he stop actually??

  11. the real house fans know that junior at his best can compare to any dj that ever played nyc. his out of the park nights might be more unpredictable at this point but its part of the fun- unexpected. its goopd news in junior land at this point.
  12. his cream liverpool sets were a lot longer than 2 hours, I'll guess minimum of 4 hours maybe more
  13. at centrofly just a few years back, oakey played for 3+ hours one night and then 4 hours another set. yes ive seen him at 2 hour sets but ive also heard 3 and 4 hours too. I expect crobar will be 2-3 hours.
  14. nicole richie is def worth a look in as for am's skills/vision, i dont think anyone in the communirty rates him at all. hes a celeb dj like cameron douglass, mark ronson, paris hilton etc. in the annals of dj-ing am will never be mentioned. hes a celeb dj famous for dating nic richie & if they ever breal up hes sunk.
  15. look for his bbc essential mixes easily avail: sydney aust jan 1999 miami 1999 havana cuba 1999 goa trance essential mix 1994 ibiza space 1999 actually ANY 90s essential bbc mix is a good indicator. he did about 25+ or just to hear what oakey was up to in late 90s, buy cds: 'travelling' 'ibiza' '2 year anniversary at creamfields' i also recommend these 'transports' on kinetic: I: oakey II: dave ralph max graham's if you need more info on live oakey cds, pm me. i have prob 40-50. thanks.
  16. so derrick played til 4? or later? 2:30-4 is a 90 min set....as great as he is a 2 hour set is really the minimum... derrick might be my fave dj ever, heard him bang in many spots fro viyl to blu in miami to centrofly to the boat party and crobar dont underrate his crobar set with yousef. that was hard funk house from midnight- 4-5 am. bring back derrick soon & please not on a sunday at cielo- I am boycotting the venue ever since nick held me up for $200-300 to enter the dj heather party. with so many people complaining about nick's door policy & rudeness, cielo is no longer the best club in nyc or usa. its now on the list of NYC's WORST clubs. the 2 sanchez parties in 2004 were awesome. perhaps i will leave that as my cielo memories as I doubt im coming back to spend ONE DOLLAR to be abused by nick and his arrogant rude superior attitude. go to a real club where they treat the paying customers with respect. [im on lists every week at much more successful clubs- comped] meat packing lounges suck & cielo is way over-stepping the attitude. fuuck emm
  17. he spun some of the greatest sets in dance history in the 90s if you ever loved oakey, check him out sometime & see what hes playing in the new century. you might be pleasantly surprised that he still breaks tons of hard or melodic progressive/ trance. he'll prob play for about 3 hours at crobar.
  18. that's what I mean. since 2000- to now, DT has laid down soe of the greatest sets worldwide. miami january and march 2001 being his most legendary in usa. and vinyl [not arc] when be yourself was new & the crowd was hardcore DT house fans not cracked out ex-SF hoods. and DT started the night at 11 or 12 not 4:30.
  19. sounds like nick, the doorman who has turned cielo from 1 of nyc's best clubs to one of the worst. I suggest youir e mailing cielo & complaining about his rudeness. last time he wouldn't let me in unless I spent $200-300 on bottle service. basically Im boycotting cielo at this point until they have a booking i really really want to go to. ps I was on the list for derrick tonight also but i blew it off cos Im not giving cielo any more money on drinks when nick pulls his rude arrogant bullshit. tell cielo & hopefully they'll fire him. he's pulled this on many people I know. save cielo, fire nick.
  20. as I recall DT denied the 7/2 crobar date a month ago. but lets hope he returns to crobar in late july or august- the site of his best nyc set of 2005. many of his serts are among the best of this century, but his crobar set was up to the standards of his 2001 classics in miami- some of the greatest sets in musical history. looking forward to crobar part II.
  21. lawler played pump up the jam at roxy. didnt hear it last night? altho i left at 5:15. milkshake is fine every dj has played it at 1 time. dark beat i dont think lawler plays it anymore. altho the spirit crowd was kinda random & had some 'come here often?' people, actually spirit is getting better crowds lately for howells & DT than it had in 2004. hope dj vibe comes back there soon too.
  22. totally agree lawler's music was off the charts. it was the hardest set Ive ever heard him play. started out with a couple tribal percussion pieces then went right into the dominant style for the next 4 hours- fast electro very german sounding, shades of tech-house in there too. usually Ive heard lawler play progressive with nasty basslines & a generally dark house flavour with a few poppy highs. he did bring a couple strong progressive house jams in the middle- to later set, but primarly he was playing fast electro, not the piddly synth doodles that make most 'electro' so annoying- we're talking HUGE stomping german sounding electro, almost industtrial at points. think kraftwerk's darkest material with the gothic chords & the beat turned up too 11. there was at least 1 filetred soul-vocal number, but even that was set against a churning dark tech-house bed. I think lawler took a risk with his set, showing us the state of the art of tech-house-electro-progressive. it was a harder, fiercer style than the normally chugging progressive house we heard at crobar and roxy in 2004. it was faster darker harder more evil. lawler looked different with the beartd i thought he had been talken over by the evil village people side of his personality. kept me interested from start circa 1:30- all te way til past 5:. when he went back to the 'house that jack built' with a dark progressive mix, i knew he had shown us what he had prepared. unless i missed a different sound/style for the 5:30-6: am encores? there were some cool people for sure, i enjoyed hanging on the leather sofas & then when i walked to the dancefloor bar like 4:30 i saw more energy & a few hottys there. but in a way it was a fairly mangled crowd, not exactly rammed crowded but not a bad turnout either. i hope lawler comes back later in the year, maybe november? hes on my shortlist of djs go to every time. i loved his crobar & roxy sets in 2004 and this one was just as great, if impressive partly for the boldness of his fierce electro & techy/industrial. its a sound that not every 2005 progg house dj can pull off but lawler rocked it hardcore for hours. actually if you want to know what it sounded like at times, ever heard oakenfold's goa style circa 1994-95? or the best hard parts of the fluoro cds, not the orchestral interludes, i mean the squalchy fast goa/hard trance/electro? thats what a lot of lawlers reminded me of a dark electro almost industrial with unrelenting rhythms and huge germanic chord structures. I'd ratre the night 4-1/2 stars out of possible 5 stars, maybe even pushing lawler's musical rating up to ****3/4.
  23. great set, tons of energy & what crowd enthusiasm! did you see erick, rob, gilbert etc inviting people from the audience up to dance? that was an amazing vibe & I hope all the 'i hate crobar' people were there to see the vibe energy & music! more songs incL: dd say hello disco inferno new mix soultrain theme even though it was shoulder to shoulder as all morillo's ny sets are now, it was actually a better looking crowd than I expected. morillo is doing so well now, yes he doesnt play the subliminal house style as much now as a broader world-disco but it works & he is so in command. rating: ****1/4 of five stars
  24. great set, tons of energy & what crowd enthusiasm! did you see erick, rob, gilbert etc inviting people from the audience up to dance? that was an amazing vibe & I hope all the 'i hate crobar' people were there to see the vibe energy & music! more songs incL: dd say hello disco inferno new mix soultrain theme gehs nacht/thong song! twisted even though it was shoulder to shoulder as all morillo's ny sets are now, it was actually a better looking crowd than I expected. morillo is doing so well now, yes he doesnt play the subliminal house style as much now as a broader world-disco but it works & he is so in command. his sets feture disco, trance, techno, all played within a house format that makes him one of the key djs working. ok maybe he did talk a bit too much, but at least it wasnt diddy's incoherent yelling. you have to applaud morillo hes now at the top of the dance music dj world, hes got to be listed in the top 5 djs in the world now. {as far as who else I think is in the top slots, DT, lawler, derrick carter, and cox on his game. [after them Id say roger s, sander at his best, and howells at his best. junior when he's working it & oakenfold a few nights a year when the lightning strikes]} hopefully morillo will play nyc more often so the huge crowds lessen a bit. Ive gone now 3 crobars in a row for him & he is KILLING every time like few djs that play nyc at tghis schedule. more morillo, more sooner!!
