  1. many of his centrofly thursday subliminal sets/nights were some of nyc's best house nights of the 90s. the last few years....we'll see how centrofly is next week....
  2. is it boris delugosh who did the famous 'sing it back' remix?
  3. any tracklists you can provide?
  4. many from old days- juan atkins, frankie knuckles, junior, dante, carlos [sf], keoki, orbital....doc martin, I mean who were the most frequent nyc tunnel-limelight-roxy djs from 1987-1995?? then robots...
  5. agreed Ive seen howells more than 10 times and his set was weird at spirit, and not in a good way! he played a lot of minimal tech incl that 45 min record at 5-6 am that was like a sci fi movie. where was his chunky funky house with hard basslines? I liked about half of his set but it wasnt flowing smoothly, it was all jumps & cuts & weird corners! not that it was bad it was a ***1/2 star night out of 5 but he can be much better1! YES the vibe & energy was there i enjoyed the night but the music wasnt what he can do at his best! I think DH is one of the most debauched djs & I thought his set was loony! sometimes I feel im on his level party wise but I thought he was on some cough syrup friday night!!
  6. yes the vibe at spirit, olike DT 2 weeks ago, was one of best ive felt there. pretty good crowd, and kept going til I left at 6. he went to 8? ive heard a lot of howells I thought it wasnt his "A" game. some of the harder/techno stuff was good, but i didnt feel a flow from him like other nights. it wasnt a bad set by any means but sounded more experimental than usual. i missed his signature dirty progressive bassline stompers and the deeper, funky house he sometimes plays. i danced quite a bit & the minimal tech around 5-6 am was interesting, if very 'out there' just remebering his incredible halloween 2003 arc set, I didnt think last night was near that level of programming groove or records. also I think the Gu027 cd is fantastic, really groovy housey sweet melodic. I heared about 1 of the harder tracks friom it last night & I wish DH had played a set closer to the GU027 style. anyway it was a pretty good set in techno & tribal & the crowd was better than suual for spirit. I hope he comes back to nyc more often, once or twice a year is not right for nyc & DH.
  7. the crobar crwd beats the spirit crowd every time except when DT is at spirit
  8. well yousef held it down til about 2:. thats about when a co-headliner comes on. it is nice when the headliner comes on at 1: but DC played from 2-5:30, I was more than happy with his set 7 hope he comes back to crobar soon.
  9. anybody here make it for derrick carter & yousef last night? i did & id like to hear your views. I thought DC was great, like 3+ hours straight of boompty funky house. his use of samples & mixing diff tunes together in unexpected ways is just genius, always keeping that inner groove of hard funk house. didnt recognize as many vocals or hooks as in sm of his sets iot was just straight up funky hopue for hours, i loved it from like 2-5 am. yousef was a perfect opener, a little more poppy with his funky house but he is a dj to be respected too, great house grooves and no gimmicks mixing. I wish I had more to say about the sets-- i was at 2 clubs beforehand, and the middle club was open bar so i slammed like 7 screwdrivers back to back and by the time i got to crobar i was feeling no pain. still danced from like 1-ish to 5-ish when DC winded down [i think] with more techy/minimal/electro house that was a bit hard for my head after his syncopated groovy house set anyway rating derrick **** out of a possible 5 stars. curious what others thought & if they can remind me of other stuff i forgot in my vodka haze. ?
  10. first of all last saturday at spirit was GREAT!! But I dont mid jnr leaving spirit. he shld go to roxy bi-weekly or even crobar once or twice a month. and i hope he goes back to ktu too, i miss his great show. spirit can go f* them selves iof they dont appreciate junior.
  11. crobar is able to keep it at $30 reduced for top talent like cox & digweed & pvd that obvs cost them a lot of $$. other nights crobar can be $20 or $25, always get on a list. spirit charging $40 for every event is a ripoff. they also should get lists together to offer $25 or $30 max. in general i dont like spirit so rather than pay the $$ & complain, i jsut dont go. altho junior and exacta next weekend is worth the $25 or whatever they charge. made events books a lot of spirit & they shld get a list going immediately. twilo had lists , arc had lists, why is made not offering lists at all events? why is 440 suddenly the standard at spirit? one more reason not to go there except for special dj bookings, like Vibe for example.
  12. sanchez was great on saturday went on saturday. roger sanchez another superb set. 2 weeks ago DT, last week coxy, and last night roger s. crobar is saving big room nyc clubbing s'man's set was great, just a shade less good tahn coxy and about 2 steps below dt's still great though. mainly progressive house with some hot disco-ey funky house too. only recognized 'weekend to begin' and deep dish 'say hello' - most of the top tracks were instrumental proggy bangers with huge basslines. great staff at crobar, by far the most polite of any nyc big club. not as many hot babes as at DT & cox but still soem cuties. for a big club nyc saturday it was a more civilized crowd than say any at spirit or even the guidos at DT. rating 8 out of 10.
  13. where is this new club? manhattan? joe c is a superb house dj, his knowledge of the dance & disco classics from 70s/80s is inspiring.
  14. coxy had a residency at twilo called ultimate base. he would play approx every 2 months & sometimes once a month. certain sets were 8 hour sets & some of his 6-8 hr sets were some of the greatest sets ive ever heard in many many years of nyc clubbing. avalon was pretty good, his crobar set was actually very good, but i think if he got a crobar residency he could spread his sound out more as he did at twilo, where he played some disco, more funky house, some 'trance' and even the occasional poppy/electro track. avalon set was strict techno with a few poppy sampled hooks. crobar set was hard tech-house all the way, impressive in that he kept interest & intensity for 5 hours straight in that one mood of tech house genre. but he can do more than that as seen at twilo & when i saw him in miami. i wld like to hear more funky house, more deep house & more disco from him as just playing tech house all night is not his full arsenal. I think a crobar residency wld allow carl to stretch out his sound abit as he did in 6-8 hour twilo sets.
  15. house fans know that derrick is possibly the very best at his style. crobar is a blessing to nyc clubbing & they are slowly signing up every important dj. bringing in derrick is huge, plus yousef is on the bill, have heard hes good with the uk hard house but never heard him. yousef does appear in some top 10-20 dj polls so he must have something going on. in the last 3 weeks ive heard awesome sets from DT, coxy & roger s at crobar. and coming up: morales, pvd, sander. hoping crobar also books oakey again, deep dish again, lawler again. DT again. hoping hernan comes back too.
  16. even with the commercials it wa sstill 2 hours of great house mixews every friday. i hope junior & KTU can work it out & put him back on the air. or maybe jnr will move to satellite radio. that will get me to sign up asap. theres not much good dance radio in nyc for the serious house fan but ktu's jnr, morales & oakey 2 hours each a week is a blessing, its the only tim,e i will listebn to ktu & i always record it. i actually dont mind the ktu jocks, for a goof, goomba johnny speedie lil cease, and jules has a sweet voice. I only listebn for jnr morales or oakey but actually 10 minutes of them talking isnt that bad cos its 1 hour 50 mins of junior. JUNIOR PLAESE GO BACK ON KTU! MISS YOU!!
  17. went on saturday. roger sanchez another superb set.
  18. sunday night i said it was DT's best nyc set since arc . tonight he writes oon DTour he felt it was his best set since arc. the music was off the charts, his programming & cinematic scope was unbelieveable. it was so crowded it was a very hard night but still the music blew me away.
  19. that was a beautiful moment singing for DT right there under the booth that was def the place to be right there under the booth even withy the asian invasion on the left side next to the speaker with some very odd energy & bad dancing over there. didnt matter great vibe despite packed. maybe best set I heard since lawler 4/04 or vibe's first spirit gig in spring 04.
  20. when hes on hes one of the 5 or so best djs in ther world. it was a mistake to book him the night before DT at crobar i hope vibe comes back soon with a better scheduled date,.
  21. quick review, still very tired. DT's best nyc set since arc. he is totally the best nyc dj, he left no doubt as to that last night. as he said it was 'a voyage.' a lot more ambient or experimental moments than usual, but that made the peak songs go even higher. loved the deep house grooves with vocal samples/ a capaellas on top. whatever hard house/progressive bombs he dropped were massive, i was loving their future funk & beats. way to crowded. its good they stopped letting people in, when i arrived at midnight it was already packed. considering how many people were there, the quotient of hot girls was impressive. still too many guys to girls ratio. but compared to morillo, DT gets a better crowd, morillo gets a lot of jersey/SF mooks & DT still brings the arc homegirls/guys crew; but still a few too many SF guidos it must be said. anyway as far as the music it was extraordinary, ve heard a lot of DT sets & this one was among the most interesting, if not as great as his best from 1999-2002. music? 9 of 10 easily, maybe more. club....maybe 7 of 10, too crowded. overall, 8 of 10 or 8.5. DT was incredible.
  22. any tracklists/trainspots? caught roger's previous 2 cielo sets & was suitably impressed. will have to make next crobar headline to make up. id love 2 hear what he spun last night so as to get a feel for his flavour last night. the man made me a believer at past cielo, spirit & crobar jams.
  23. totally agree, derrick is the best american dj & possibly the best house dj alive. i only wish he'd play nyc more, its always unpredictable when/where he'll come. loved his avalon set last summer. seen him all over, centrofly, blue in miami, on a boat on the hudson!! i hope the promoters bring him back more often, i will go. i think those that know derrick rate him at the top. we need him in nyc more!!!
  24. at his best he can be really really excellent. he plays progressive house but always remembers his break beats & also has a fine ear for melody. his last nyc set at avalon about 9 months ago was very good, as were his twilo sets several years ago. his essential mix from last fall was REALLY good, very future house- funky progressive- if he plays like that it will blow minds. whats the cielo date? Im down for that!!
  25. any reviews from derrick & bill at avalon saturday night??
