  1. great site & list gabe thanks. just naming one - tracy weber 'sure shot' larry levan 12" mix. in the 80s wbls & kissfm & wktu had hour after hour of dance-disco-classics- soul-r&b etc etc. the occasional 'disco flashback' block now is nice but ... 'things just aint the same...'
  2. morales generally plays crobar every month or 2. this summer he travels so hes only had about 2 sets since...may? he was in fine form saturday night.
  3. on a pleasure basis it compared well to juniors excellent roxy vocal set a wwek ago & in some ways was a more pleasing set than DT's august crobar pots/pans beatdown. although DT's DJ skills are surely superior to golden producer morales'. that was a excellent morales set at crobar. stayed all the way til his finish at 6 am. best records were traditional nyc vocal house jams liek 'things just aint the same' and that amazing latin-sounding positive vibes track that he played like 5:30. acoustic guitar? latin vocal? positive sunshiny message? otherwise david played his now-traditional big room house which features a techy-ish edge. while I love his classic nyc vocal house the best, there is no doubt that many old school nyc house djs are now featuring a tech-house seletion, meaning less vocals and a distinct techy flavour. morales did a great job with that sound last night. thsi was a set where he aws focussed. he was energetic & paying attention from my arrival at 2: through to 6 am close [he oposite was true of his labour day spirit set in 2004. it was the draggiest set I ever heard from him & he took a record 10+ bathroom breaks,. he didnt care]. {best morales set ive heard since 2000 was spring 2004 at spirit, when he played a lot of old schol house jams /classics incl that angie stone chronic/ojays backstabbers mash up. } crobar last night was almost as good. the big room disco tech-house jams are working, as they do for morillo. [mentioning the techy house sound, I am disappointed that DT seems to favour a super hard clanging tech sound now, above all other styles. DT's tech-house was always great next to DT's deep hard house bombs & even the hard trance vocal pop, but suddenly DT has gone hard techno crazy & its getting ugly] morales' tech-house set last night was pure pleasure, and the crobar crowd was lucklily almost meathead/ guido free. it was a very positive , holiday weekend crobar crowd, up, positive happy & jamming til morales last record. in fact on a pleasure /musical level, morales last night compares favourably with the energetic DT crobar & sweet vocal melody junior roxy sets I heard in august. rating 3 and 3/4 stars out of 5.

  5. After This Holiday Weekend, Is Klear Going To Be A Saturday Party? Monthly? Bi Monthly? Thanks. Roxy Last Week Was Great
  6. yeah hard progg house, sometimes funky, some times hard trance hes AWESOME
  7. junior was excellent at roxy. large crowd lots of energy & lots of smiles. made it from 2 am to 8 that was excellent sampling of wonderful songs/faves. since i predicted jnr wld top DT's recent crobar night, i will briefly contrast the 2 events. fuller jnr review soon im still blitzed from so much dancing 7 great songs and also started in west village with vodka from 11-2. technique: DT's mixing was better than juniors. junior has at least 1 missed beat match and his hard house blends were less subtkle than Dt's 'best in the world' percussion/tribal/bottom mixes- DTs technique was extraordinary at both crobar sets. programming/songs: DT played 9 hours of clanging pots/pans techno, hard tribal. junior played so many awesome musical songs like all this time, toni braxton, weeping child, mariah we belong mix!~ rickie lee jones, rob thomas. no comparison jnrs songs & playlist/programming blew away Dts noisy hard evil techno substantially. surprises. DT had some cool sound effects & little noises that were special. I may not have liked 50%+ of what DT played but the other 50% was impressive percussive beatdown tech-no-house-tribal...DTs drama is unmatched- he pulled black water out at the best moment & Dts overall tapestry, even in the narrow corridor of techno, was intertesting if noisy & not as sweet as jumniors predominently vocal set. crowd. energy at both. well attended at both but roxy was more comfy than rammed guido sat crobar DT. found roxy more manageable crowd/space wise. overall more good vibes at junior & more interesting & diverse mixed crowd. too many guids at DT. some people hated DT crobar crowd. overall roxy junior mixed crowd was better & it was a great jnr crowd after some cracked out spirit sets early 2005. broad experience. dts technique & devotion to tech corridor impressed but did not show the many colors of the vocal deep house & melodies that made DT the best DJ a few years ago. overall im distressed by DTs new meathead hard tech-tribal direction. junior worked hard to please his fans witha sweet set of many many crowd fave songs from last 5 or more years. i might have enjoyed a few hard rollibng bass progressive stompers but i know he'll pull those out in early or mid-set next times he plays. jnr focussed on popular sweet vocal house and he certainly presents it as well or better tahn almost any dj & has so for more than 20 years. on a 'pleasure principle' jnrs roxy event was considerably more pleasant than dts crobar 2 weeks ago. i rated DT 3 and 3/4 stars of 5 mainly due to his technique & intellectually fascinating shades of techno beats & mixing/noises. between juniors superb playlist & the general warm vibes of roxy event I'll hv 2 give the night 4 stars of five. and maybe a bit more when i fully digest the weekend through sunday 8 am. Dts skills surpassed jnr this time but juniors songs & programming & multi-culti vibey crowd won the match. WINNER FOR AUGUST 2005: JUNIOR AT ROXY over DT @ Crobar.
  8. morales has played an intense song that goes , "I think Im falling in love" its a hard house vocal. hope that helps
  9. I predict juniors set tonight at roxy will BLOW AWAY DT's techno banging at crobar 2 weeks ago. all your gossip-- leave it out. thanks
  10. I think drug free is the way to do 8, 12, 16 hours. if youre rolling etc i think you enjoy your 4-8 hours then youre done. its enough for me. imo.
  11. jon jon battles might be the most underrated dj in nyc. i love junior too tho. fave nyc djs wld be DT, junior v , choo choo, morales, baby hec. then junior sanchez, jon jon, larry tee, leigh, greg k....
  12. morillo is the current boss of nyc. dt & jnr are gonna have to get back to theior millenial sounds to topple the subliminal honcho. underrated is choo choo, baby hec, jon jon battles, jnr sanchez
  13. imo seriously? start at 11: pm and go til 8 am. thats it. best example in 2004 was junior starting at discoteque at 11. most nights it was rammed by 1, 2. 2-6 peak music. 6-8 afterhours. by 8-ish we leave satisfied. thats my current fave schedule. also like the crobar/spirit schedule of headliner on at 12-1 and goes til 6 or so. or 7 or 8. same ting.
  14. holla!! brucie rips the classics like nobody's business!! reeespeccc!!!!
  15. I voted: 1) steve lawler 2) derrick carter 3) erick morillo 4) carl cox 5) junior vasquez simply based on which djs live sets have blown me away most regularly in the last year. [july 2004 to august 2005]. my runners up include: tenaglia, dj vibe, sander, hernan, howells, morales. again Im basing it on consistent live sets. DT had some of the best but also some of the more disappointing at roxy last year, thats why hes not in my top 5 for the first time in a few years. this is the highest morillo has ever been in my list. if you were at his crobar sets in 2005 you know why. his global disco sound might be the state of the art in big room house. junior has had some ups & downs in 2005 but his 2004 smallroom sets at discoteque were extraordinary. I caught some morales & vibe in 2004 that blew me away but vibe hasnt really been here in 05 and morales can be great or bad, often in the same night. carl cox might not be the same as in 2000 but even at less-than-peak his sets punish like few djs. the last 3 lawler nyc sets were so f*in amazing I thats why hes my #1 now. derrick carter may still be my all time favourite dj, he has never let me down ever since 1997. DT can be the best, but I miss his arc/vinyl dependability. its gotten harder to be a dt fan after arc but the 1st crobar [birthday] set, along with lawler & morillo, was the best ive heard so far in 2005.
  16. whatever anti-house, anti-dance attitudes you hear this century ["Nobody listens to techno": eminem etc] are NOTHING compared to the anti-disco movement of late 70s. people were attacked many times for liking disco [or "fag music" to many morons]. the funny thing is I think there are Still DANCE fans who say "I hate disco"!! {maybe techno snobs espec...?} anyway house music is our/my music & its been a way of life for almost 20 years. and i loved soul disco & r&b from at least 1971 if not earlier. every house fan knows its a spiritual feeling, a movement to the higher ground & into the light. listening in 1987-88 the first tracks i remember were todd terry bango, black riot, and stuff like marshall jefferson, mr fingers, do it properly etc
  17. there is no denying the importance of larry & the garage, its the archetypal underground house/dance venue that still resonates with like 2 or 3 generations of clubbers, not just in nyc but also all usa & even europe. but before the garage was studio 54 & i think youll find its a very historic club socially like the garage was, and also musically BEFORE the garage. studio is more famous globally & in the history of nyc, clubbing & nightlife in general, studio remains perhaps THE symbiolic disco/club in the history of nyc & usa clubbing. it was influenced by european clubs of the 70s which shld not be ignored. as far as junior, yes SF is prob his most legendary residence. but i became aware of junior at the palladium, circa mid-80s. the young people here may not know about the 80s heyday of Palladium but it was major, man. and even into the mid 90s palladium was hosting some massive dance nights, like the orb, rabbit in the moon, banco de gaia & many more. at that time tunnel & limelight were awesome debauched events but do u remember showing up at palladium in 95 & how debauched that was? that big lobby at palladium. with the guestlists & the bathrooms? as far as the glam scene like studio 54, the 1985 palladium was a classy joint. the 80s might have been the heyday of big rooms in nyc with studio, limelight, palldium & tunnel. fast forward to the late 90s, juniors saturday nights at twilo were major, made booking the euro progressive djs from 11-6 am & then junior taking us on his trips from 6 am on.... exit didnt hv the same feel for junior. still waiting for junior to establish another nyc residency like his sf or twilo glories. waiting....
  18. hard deep tribal madness!! DT was kicking the low end. made it til 9 am ok i know thats not as strong as some here but not bad for 142 years young! plus Id been at another party in the village [open vodka bar eeeps!] from 11 pm so thats 10 hrs of hardcore jollies! DT's technique is just unmatched. the bottom end!! went BOOM! would appreciate some setlist/trainspots espec from 9 am to 4 pm so I know what jammity jams i missed but can replay in my tick tock noggin a la rewind. thanks and triple thanks to DT!!!
  19. adam had his tummy stapled cos he weighed almost 300. yick.
  20. yeah theres a new 'white horse' mix- really cool. look out for the 'let the music play' new version- 100% HOUSE ! not electro! & better for it!! 'pon the replay' that r&b/reggae-ish track, girl singer junior gong marleys reggae track- its strong!! 50- 'out of control' remix... mariah 'we belong together' maybe pop song of the year??? - its better after the 251st play!@! saw them on BET all week....
  21. please advertise all lineups at CP so we know whats what whos whos thks
  22. still say jon jon battles!!! and jayne county!! & junior sanchez & larry tee. and whitey & the glimmers. [are they english?]
  23. I was blown away by harry choo choo romero last night at canal room. it was the best vibe & music Ive yet heard in that room. only track I spotted was a housey mix of 'let the music play' actually much better than the electro classic if you can believe it. otherwise the straight up subliminal house you wld expect from choo choo deep funky & with a slight progressive tip. one of the best house sets ive heard in 2005 & as great as morillo's world disco style is now in 2005 if you want that old subliminal funky deep house choo choo is still playing it and it sure sounds great. i hope choo choo plays a return date at canal room, he was awesome. also the house dj who closed it out after choo choo was great too, a bity more on the classics tip [french kiss] but some newer deep funky & vocal house numbers too, who is that dj? he is excellent & is worth a look on his own too. i also caught ARE Weapons too & heard matt damhaeve's hip hop & reggae stylings.
  24. i like exacta, but with his crobar residence, and well known tracks like 'flippin' he is not really a 'secret' at this point. but he is good. i wld say JON JON BATTLES. most of you might not know him but he was a resident at larry tee's disgraceland at crobar in 2004, he spins at boysrrom & i think the new opaline too. he plays some of the best electro-house you will hear anywhere and he also plays some excellent funky deep house. since he's more in the ;new weave rock' crowd like junior sanchez is now, many people may not know jon jon but i promise you hes one of the best young electro & house djs in nyc & I hope he gets better known & booked soon. also even tho harry choo choo romero is world famous & made many hot joints for subliminal, he is not usually named when people discuss the best nyc house djs. let me tell you he was SO HOT last night at canal rom it was some of the best straight up house ive heard all year. with a slight progressive tip but really its classic subliminal house incl deep funky . choo choo kicks ass.
  25. yes i went it was a famous gay club & also had rock/modern dance on fridays in late 80s at its best an excellent club.
