  1. spirit 11/5 thats it. no ikon.
  2. Kerry/Edwards the clubbers' only choice ps a vote for nader is a bush vote, duhh
  3. several nights at discotq he was still one of the best djs around. it was great to have an intimate space with an 11 pm start but good things dont always last. whether crobar-spirit-and/or roxy junior will be back and if you know your nyc clubbing past present & future yopu WILL be there. anyone who doesnt respect juniors contribution, incredible talent, years of service & devoted following doesnt deserve to post at a club msg board or enjoy the nyc club scene that junior evolved. to much ignorance and the gay-bashing- nj guido stupidity is really self-reflexive look it up
  4. Ive been clubbing since the late 70s, studio 54, xenon, etc etc oakey roxy trancegiving 1999 was one of the greatest sets of music in in nyc club history. ive seen quite a few other classixc oakey sets- marc ballrm perfecto 98, bowery ballroom twice, miami 2000 & 2001, ive heard every top dj u can name from diggers & DT to coxy & junior, morales, carter, knuckles, lawler, sander, sanchez, vibe, etc etc. many of the top djs many times - when oakey was in his magic zone circa 1998-99 it was one of the peaks in dance music history. you were either there & aware, or you missed it. oakey now? .... my thksgiving choice is DT & lawler
  5. fyi jnr is one of the greatest djs in history. arguably the greatest nyc or usa dj ever. and he still is fantastic in 2004 as anyone who was at discotq & crobar & spirit this year knows junior will be back at roxy, spirit & crobar & if you have taste & energy youll be there. end transmision
  6. junior was great. avenue d was cool & kevin aviance performed 'im coming out' remix, best song of night. i love crobar but smhow it wasnt as focussed a 'junior crowd' as Im used to? i mean i was there along with scores of weekly/yearly junior fans; {there were a few straight guidos who looked way out of place and almost ruined the night IMO= they didnt know juniors crowd is gay & thurs crobar is a mixed/gay/bi night??} but the 'normal' crobar crowd/ disgraceleand scenesters werent as focussed on junior? the music was great but the experience was smwhat diffuse...? i thought sander k, lawler & parts of morillo's spring set were stronger sets at crobar? i love the thursday party tho - and junior was more housey than they normally go so that was cool-- id love to hear junior back there again... id rate it ***1/2- i made it from 11;30- 3:30-4 AND JUNIOR WAS playing great tracks all the time like miss kitten; all n all joyce sims; nasty girl remix;
  7. is DT playing all night? at roxy howells stunk up the club til 4;30. if we hv 2 wait around for DT to get on the decks theres other club options that night & halloween weekend. Im a gigantic DT fan heard him scores of times & at his best hes the best us dj & maybe the best in the world but roxy w/howells was like $45 and howells ruined the night 7 the vibe with his-un-mixed techno. howells can be brilliant in progg-tech-house-deep-melodic house styles but hes a terrible techno dj & i feel i wasted my $45 wanting to hear DT when instead howells plays for a F*cked up wrecke crowd. hoping DT comes on like 11-12 midnight & plays a long set til 8 or whatevs thanks for info
  8. house vocal house deep house hard house tech-house techno-y tech-trance progressive house progressive trance ambient breaks tribal hard house *smiile*
  9. hope you bring max graham back soon. the informed music fans know he's a leading progressive dj. the average clubber has no idea who max is. he really separates the smarts from the marks. please bring max back soon thanks
  10. I saw new order at paradise garage on their power corruption & lies tour.
  11. i sure hope erick remebers his house roots when he plays all techno its pots and pans he can play the best deep and funky house, like at centrofly subliminal last time at crobar half of the set was great house, funky and progressive then he did a lot of percussive techno that hit the crowd on the head hope he rediscovered the funk in ibiza whats the date??
  12. when they're at their best live- derrick carter danny tenaglia carl cox oakey junior sander lawler diggers vibe
  13. just a few remarks, i thought howells played the worst set ive ever heard from him. it was all techno. i thought he was trying to do a carl cox style set but he fell flat on his face. howells never plays well before DT. he shld stick to his house/progressive style. i was appalled that howells played til 4:30. DT's first nyc gig in 2 months and he doesnt come on til 4:30. with howells horrid programming i was gone as soon as DT came on. DT shld hv come on 2-3 am maybe. he was hanging out near the booth from 3-4:30. for $40 i thought we'd get more of the headliner. howells played none of the progg with nasty basslines and none of the melodic/deep house he's been great with at twilo & many arc classics. next time i hope DT either plays all night [the 4th july party was an absolute sunshine classic] or has a worthy partner ie coxy/ diggers/ dj vibe/ d morales/ t humphries/ fr knuckles. if u read the arc board, rob promotion board too youll see some very negative reviews. ive been looking forward to last night since july and howells ruined it.
  14. Ummm, I think the italians in italy might have had a handle on the 'ciao' a few hundred years before 718 was over-run with mooks and borricua-- you know back when it was all native americans & the like-- they had the old skool flavour!!
  15. ive been partying since studio 54 era or earlier & I'm still going til 6-7 am easy. when to stop? never- or 50-70? - or heart attack- i dont care Im having the best times ever NOW!!
  16. yes you missed the best parts of sanders set. which was from 2-4 am. the crowd was cute & sharp dunno what your perceps were at 430-5 but i met a model earlier & a gal from Fla who ws even prettier. dunno what music & crowd you experienced but my crobar 12-4+ was GREAT!! dont miss out next time avalon?? gross. get serious
  17. completely agree with you as my longer review on pg 1 says- sander from 2-4 was famntastic, just rocking from dirty progg to poppy disco. yes blur the jacksons 'shake your body' and doors worked great in that huge room. I ve seen sander quite a few times & he's NEVER been as happy & energized as this - not even at arc 4/03 which was a magical long sander set. but then- at 4 i thought he lost the focus & energy- porter took over a bit- and the harder beats didnt gel & flow like in 2-4 am... anyway still a fantastic night and the crowd was hot!! Great music at Crobar = the Best NYC club of 2004!!
  18. This was a feel-good night for me. Got there midnight. Comped. Didnt like the hot 97/ktu pop-hop in the reed room. straight to the main room. whoa it was packed! prob as many people as any crobar nyc ive been to. For a summer saturday of long weeknd crowd it was a GOOD crobar crowd! face it crobar is a more 'grown up' club than most in nyc. and i dont mean in a snooty 'fashionista-apprentice-bottles' way- I mean there are people older than 20! most of them!! and its a dressier crowd! thats more POLITE than many clubs! [hello discotq & spirit!!]. that actually came out to have FUN not beefs. that can still drink up , disco down and NOT be extra-mangled AND still look good! there are some foxy women at crobar & generally everyone dresses nice. even the mooks had their style-game on [stencil sleeveless tees? cool for YOU!!] and i repeat there were sm babes! steve porter up. LOVE the crobar dj on stage set up! [the old 'skybox' perch was distant & cold]. listen i LIKE steve porter!! in fact after LES Id say hes the best '2nd tier' NYC dj. [meaning about-to-break- but not of DT/jnr-morales-morillo-fame yet]. OK steves set- half instrumental club bangers. sm dirty basslines. sm proggy cool neo-disco. a few sweet-vocal-sander-style funky tracks. - also some kinda aimless drifty wanna-be progg snoozers that didnt do much but fill time. SO as an OPENING DJ I think Steve did well- in fact he was banging it out from 1-2 as sander loomed. in fact that was a pretty jumping opening set and sander dug it [in fact 1-2 times during sanders set, porter took over for 1-2 songs while sander refilled that vodka-cberry rider on stage] 2 am sanders on. the most cheerful ive ever seen him, well at least since arc anyway. the most connecting with crowd ive seen him. I LOVED SANDERS SET! 2-3 am- progressive dirty bass bangers wityh an occasional sweet-pop-hyper-female vocal- listen sander can MIX!!!! he can blend or he can BANG!! the next tume in but hes in control of his records & I LOVE the way he programs! TALENT!! arc-fans note- sander's 2-3 set was VERY-Howells-like- dirty bass & sm funky yet poppy hooks. 3-4 am- this was the core of sanders set. ok the sound was a little 'progressive trance.' in fact he was pumping like 5-10 'trance' tracks- Which I LIKE from sander! melodic- dramatic- ethereal- and still the occasional hard bottom/ tuff beat-- by 120 mins + into sanders set I was having a ball!! met a cool couple from St Pete Fla. dancing with the fellow-sander-porter maniacs at the railing- chilling on the speaker- saw a few arc-heads - I was into sanders progg melodic trance! NOT CHEESE! - QUALITY!!! the crowd was with him all the way! fist-pumping! drumrolls & crescendoes! by 4 am i was saying I am loving this set as mucgh as my fave arc sander set- do u remeber april 2003 at arc?? when sander seemed to reach a new level in nyc with the flow and cinematic buildup of the dirty bass & emotive trance climaxes?? ander did it again last night! I was loving it & the crowd was still in the game. 4-5 am. Sander switched styles. he went to a harder techy-house cum-tribal sound...the man can mix BUT tribal bottoms are NOT sanders forte! he needs some of those lawler-type piledriving basslines in there! NOT a pots/pans tribal! sander lost the flow i felt & was just banging for its own sake. the crowd thinned- i was up front & the archeads were still present but i was one of the few STILL juming up & down! still a cute crowd, still a classy club night but sander lost it towards 5 am. porter took over a bit. more of his warm up tracks...the pace slackened. sander came back for a few more progg bangers but the tribal/tech section from 4-5 had cut a hole in the crowd. i left sweaty semi-mangled but still glowing. some great people in the crobar staff. many great clubbers on this holiday weekend jam. some absolutely awesome tunes from 1 am -4-ish. I will be back next time sander plays crobar. i love his funky-pop-disco vocals & the epic progg trance climaxes. but his tribal-tech style isnt sanders strength- he's a melodicist & a disco demon at heart- and overall between music & crowd experience I rate last night ****1/4 on a 5* scale. ps sander also played the doors' 'riders on storm' and blur song #6 remixes that deep dish banged last weekend on ess mix. worked for dd & blur espec had crobar jumping pogoes woo hoo indeed!
  19. whats the door charge for digweed crobar night? thanks
  20. its a cool mixed crowd age wise and racially. from 19-30s. let the teens have their ktu.trance. house music is my/our music & tony is a legend & more. chk out thurs @ discotq w/tiony & you will hear some of the best house sounds in nyc 2004. *peas*
  21. I went to discoteque again last night aug 12 for tony humphries-- this party is delivering some of the very best house music being heard in nyc right now on a weekly basis...I cannot imagine why its not more crowded and why the house & dance music lovers are not flocking to this event and celebrating it. its not just old school house altho that vibe def underlies every beat & tune. its NOW house music spun by 1 of teh greatest ever TH. and his partner (alan?) is pretty major too with a bag of classic house & even old skool r&b and funk-- JB's Doing It to Death at 4;20 am!!!! Im going to keep going as many thursdays as I can-- anybody who loves house music shld chk this party out also discoteque-- which gets mad crowded for junior-- is actually a cozy club when its 1/3 full like for tony-- there was even some air conditioning lats night!! I dont think I ever felt any a/c durimng jjuniors sweat filled sardine box nights chk this thursday nioght party out & you will be converted to tony's amazing house tunes & experience-- its soe of the best music to be heard in nyc right now & everyone at CP who loves house & its leading lights owes to to them selves & the scene to represent. sweet sounds!!!!
  22. did anyone at armin check out the 2 other rooms? grandmaster flash was spinning in the prop room, and also larry tee-- and jon jon battles in the reed room-- or was the avb crowd segregated from the 'disgraceland' 2 rooms? curious.
  23. kahn is the koolest but he didnt reach louie devito status yet. maybe some more epic trance CD blends? just a thought
