  3. -- Sunday, June 25, 2006 -- SWAG (Version, Jus' Trax, www.swag-uk.net) UK Chris began his addiction to music at an early age. His parent's record collections and passion for music meant he was exposed to everything from Motown and Classical to Black Sabbath at home. As a teenager, early Hip Hop and Electro became his obsession and at the time he left school, the first wave of Chicago house was hitting the clubs he sneaked into after-hours. Sheffield's vibrant illegal party scene at the end of the eighties introduced Chris to a different style of music and DJing altogether; he was hooked. His own first DJ residency began in 1989 at Sheffield's now legendary Limit club. Chris broke the rules of the time by playing European music alongside the more popular US sound, as well as mixing up styles and tempo's. By actually learning the craft in the club his instinctive feel for the dancefloor came about not through hours of practice, but by actually feeding off the moods of the dancers and constantly pushing them with new sounds alongside the established favorites. SWAG was started in 1993, initially as a project they played around with in their spare time. Junior Boys Own's Terry Farley called them upon hearing the fruits of their studio endeavors and offered to release the first wave of SWAG material. In the meantime Chris's DJ schedule was busy as ever, touring commitments with WARP acts as well as his numerous residencies meant his day job in the record store was becoming increasingly part-time. When the store finally closed in '96, Chris decided it was time to establish his own outlet for the music he was recording. His labels 'Primitive' and 'Odori' were started and immediately began releasing music from themselves and a host of other like-minded artists who threw out the House rulebook, a policy which helped their releases find their way into the record boxes of the world's best DJ's. The SWAG project had begun to lose momentum, as their relationship with JBO grew more strained. Two years of running his own labels had given Chris the confidence to start out fresh with SWAG, this time on another new, self owned label 'Version Music'. Over the last ten years the SWAG partnership has been behind over fifty original tracks, and many more remixes, for international artists like Bjork, Herbert and Moloko, as well as definitive work and collaborations for dozen's of underground labels. Their own imprints have built up an international following, making Chris's DJ schedule as hectic as ever, and ensuring their 'Decks And Gadgets' shows have rocked clubs from Tokyo to Madrid and Sydney, not to mention classic UK parties like the Sub Club, Back to Basics and Fabric. With two acclaimed LP's under their belts and each new project presenting fresh challenges and room for the duo to push their music even further, the SWAG sound has become an integral part of the underground global music scene, and Chris celebrated as one of the world's most valued DJ talents. upcoming events ---------------------------------------------- 06.25.06 SWAG (Version, Jus' Trax, www.swag-uk.net) UK SOUNDSYSTER (Ultrasound Productions) Halifax CANADA 07.02.06 Marz Entertainment celebrates 7 years with FRED EVERYTHING (Lazy Days, 20:20 Vision) Montreal SERGIO SANTOS (Moving Soundz, Marz, bump) 07.16.06 JOHN LARNER (Muzigue Boutique, Guesthouse, Bassmint) Indianapolis TIGRA C (Bassmint Recordings) Boston 07.30 10th Annual SUMMER BOAT CRUISE Afterparty presented by Phoenix Landing & Hugh O'Neill's 08.06 SOUND REPUBLIC (Guesthouse, DAE, Control) Chicago RYAN OBERMILLER (Marz, Red Door, bump) NH 08.13 BRYCE C (See Sound Lounge) Seattle SERGIO SANTOS (Moving Soundz, Marz, bump) 09.03 RAOUL BELMANS of the SWIRL PEOPLE (Aroma, Tango, Tronicsole, Lowown) Belgium ROLLAND ESS (Double Down Prod, Marz, bump) 09.24 JAY TRIPWIRE & LUKE McKEEHAN (Nordic Trax, 2Guerilla) Vancouver BC more to come... bump underground house music sunday nites at phoenix landing 512 mass ave, central sq, cambridge www.marzentertainment.com

  5. -- Sunday, June 18, 2006 -- SOUL CLAP -vs- MARZ 4 turntables and 2 Mixer C-Nyce C-Nyce began his DJ career in 1997, honing his skills playing Hip-Hop at Boston area house parties. He moved on to the futuristic sounds of Jungle and D&B in 1998 before his passion for Funk and Disco led him to the soulful sounds of House music. In 1999, after moving to LA to attend college he DJed throughout Southern CA and many nearby desert parties. In 2002 C-Nyce spent 6 months in London gaining valuable experience working full time for Milk ‘n’ 2 Sugars, the premiere House booking agency in Europe, as well as a renowned independent record label (MN2S) and legendary London promotional company. C-Nyce’s enriched musical style continues to slam dance floors with heart pounding bass lines, uplifting vocals and an authentic House vibe that is guaranteed to get hands in the air, as the crowd works it out! Elyte Growing up on Hip-Hop and eight years of Jazz Saxophone training, Elyte has journeyed through many styles of music, but unlike most of today’s specialized jocks he has refused to choose just one. Realizing that he wanted to DJ in early high-school, he formed a mobile DJ company (Next Generation Productions) with DJ Ma$, then went on to play high-school dances and many house parties around Boston. Next Generation Productions has given Elyte valuable experience in the commercial market and proved to be a very successful venture that continues to grow. Beyond mobile work, Elyte has significant experience playing commercial music such as Hip-Hop, House and Reggae in Boston’s college-oriented club scene, as well as a busy DJ schedule playing Underground music, which has taken him across North America and as far as London. Elyte’s deep love for music of all kinds has spawned a massive and diverse record collection: spanning from the hottest unreleased promos all the way back to Jazz classics, with everything in between. Be it Disco, blazin’ Hip-Hop, bangin’ House or the hottest Underground London Garage, Elyte’s experience DJing for diverse crowds has given him the ability to set any dance floor ablaze. Ryan Obermiller Originally drawn to the New England party scene while attending college at UNH, Ryan began to immerse himself in the scene and started studying the craft of DJing. Ryan made regular appearances on UNH's weekly underground electronic music show, Beat Khemistry (WUNH). He also hosted his own version of Beat Khemistry on Muziklab.com. In January 2004, Ryan landed a residency at the Red Door Lounge in Portsmouth NH (a local hot spot with a reputation for groundbreaking sounds). Now joining up with Marz Entertainment (Boston) as one of the newer members of the team, Ryan looks to expand his sound to a wider audience. So listen up... Randy Deshaies Randy's energy comes from a deep love for house music and the obsession to consistently apply that energy to every event and dance floor he is involved in. A love that developed in the later part of the 90s, inspired by such DJs and Producers as; Doc Martin, Josh Wink, Mark Farina, Derrick Carter, and Little Louie Vega. Known as the hardest working promoter in Boston, Randy and Marz has provided Boston with the best underground house music in the area and applying those same principals in his DJ sets. Randy, along with two close friends, developed Marz Entertainment in the summer of 1998 with the vision of revamping the local house scene. Six years later and countless hours of hard work, Marz Entertainment has emerged as a leader and has seen Randy excel as a DJ. Holding residencies at Avalon, Rise, Phoenix Landing, Hibernia, Pravda 116, Limbo Lounge, and the infamous Summer Boat Cruise Parties. Exerting every ounce of his love and energy, which dissipates through every set. upcoming events ---------------------------------------------- 06.18.06 SOULCLAP (Next Generation Productions) Boston RYAN OBERMILLER (Red Door, Marz, bump) NH 06.25.06 SWAG (Version, Jus' Trax, www.swag-uk.net) UK SOUNDSYSTER (Ultrasound Productions) Halifax CANADA 07.02.06 Marz Entertainment celebrates 7 years with FRED EVERYTHING (Lazy Days, 20:20 Vision) Montreal SERGIO SANTOS (Moving Soundz, Marz, bump) 07.16.06 JOHN LARNER (Muzigue Boutique, Guesthouse, Bassmint) Indianapolis TIGRA C (Bassmint Recordings) Boston 07.30 10th Annual SUMMER BOAT CRUISE Afterparty presented by Phoenix Landing & Hugh O'Neill's 08.06 SOUND REPUBLIC (Guesthouse, DAE, Control) Chicago RYAN OBERMILLER (Marz, Red Door, bump) NH 08.20 BRYCE C (See Sound Lounge) Seattle SERGIO SANTOS (Moving Soundz, Marz, bump) 09.03 RAOUL BELMANS of the SWIRL PEOPLE (Aroma, Tango, Tronicsole, Lowown) Belgium ROLLAND ESS (Double Down Prod, Marz, bump) 09.24 JAY TRIPWIRE & LUKE McKEEHAN (Nordic Trax, 2Guerilla) Vancouver BC more to come... bump underground house music sunday nites at phoenix landing 512 mass ave, central sq, cambridge www.marzentertainment.com

  14. --Sunday May 28, 2006-- Memorial Day Weekend !!! Open til 2AM !!! HALO (city deep, large, Undefeated) San Diego Playing Deep Soulful House and melodic vibes that capture your spirit in minutes is the essence that is otherwise known as house music provided by an artist whose distinctive style is far from ordinary. “The key is consistency.†So says Brian Varga - alias Halo – house music lover, DJ, producer and label owner. It’s a simple yet highly effective policy that has guided Halo through 16 years of a successful house music career. To spinning at Europe’s House music circuit or at one of his many international DJ residencies, to owning a thriving record label, City Deep Music, Halo always has something beautiful to contribute to the world of quality house. His accolades aren’t surprising, considering he was raised on soulful bass. “I grew up in Chicago, listening to people like, Larry Heard, Glenn Underground and Frankie Knuckles.†He came of age with the Hot Mix 5 on Friday nights on radio station WBMX and was soon working in a record store by day and learning how to work a crowd by night in Chicago’s underground rave scene. It wasn’t until Chicago’s post-rave loft scene blossomed in the mid- nineties, that Halo truly found his passion within the deep soulful house community. “It just felt right; the music, the people and I knew it was something I really wanted.†At twenty releases and a dozen remixes, he has gotten in, quite deep. From his aforementioned solo success on Siesta, to his legendary collaboration’s with Hipp-e, to his upcoming releases slated for CityDeep, Halo’s work is marked with the kind of consistent quality that has kept renowned DJs such as Louie Vega, Doc Martin, Marques Wyatt, and DJ Deep constantly checking for, and spinning his productions. If consistency is the key, then challenge is the lock. Halo loves a challenge. “I love going to places that I’ve never played before. Every city, every state, every country has it’s own special thing. You never know what it is, but what makes for a great DJ is figuring it out.†This world famous DJ knows what he’s talking about – he’s traveled the globe and spun records at some of the world’s best known parties on just about every continent except Antarctica and as soon as there’s a good party there, he’ll be there too. “My favorite residency is Fabric, definitely.†Despite living in out West, Halo maintains a bi-monthly residency at the shimmering gem of London’s club scene, Fabric. “They let me get away with a lot there.†Whether playing for 10,000 Brazilians at the annual Skol Beats party, Scotland’s legendary “T in the Park†or Yellow, known simply as Tokyo’s premier nightspot for house music. CityDeep Music, Halo’s label, is his perfect outlet. At just one year old, they’ve managed to carve out a solid niche for sublime deep house and afro-beat vibes. Their four releases have found fans around the world, buzzing on internet chat boards and selling out quickly across the globe. 2006 promises more of the same as they eagerly prepare two releases for debut at the 2006 Winter Music Conference. Well known names like Dennis Ferrer, Mr. V., Franck Roger and Alix Alvarez will be featured along side Halo’s own productions giving fans something to eagerly anticipate. For Halo, it’s just the next natural step in his logical progression, “We just want to put out good music for the people to enjoy.†Halo keeps it coming! 4 Years and Bumpin!!! upcoming events ---------------------------------------------- 05.28.06 Memorial Day Weekend - Open til 2AM! 17. -- Sunday, May 21st, 2006 -- Ian Pooley (NRK, Buzzin Fly, Force Inc.) Germany Very shortly after his friendly split from V2 Records, Ian Pooley has set his goals anew – and they are higher than ever. Being one of the most respected producers in the genre of dance music today, the maestro of deep disco house has been working heavily over the past year to present a new longplayer that fully reflects his artistical development. Since his very first releases as a teenager in 1990, when Ian was a great admirer of Detroit techno masterminds like Derrick May, his musical skills have constantly progressed and evolved. From his first steps into house music, which are partly collected on his first album "The Times" (1996, Force Inc.) and his his first real artist album "Meridian" (1998, V2) and the highly acclaimed follow-up "Since Then" (2000, V2), Ian Pooley has made his way to the very top of international producers and DJ's. Many have asked for his skillful production and remix services, among them renowned artists like Dee-Lite, The Cardigans, Yello and Modjo – just to name a few. It is remarkable that during the many years of his musical work, Ian Pooley constantly followed his path and stayed focussed about his approach to music. With the success of his two longplayers not coming short, Pooley could have easily get lost in the world of remix and production assignments, listening to the many advises music business executives would give him for his "career". But for Pooley, the term career never meant very much aside from doing what he likes to do in order to get some joy out of his life. Nothing could really distract him from following his very personal musical interests and his unique way of blending solid house rhythms with various musical styles is a direct result from this philosophy. For his upcoming new album, Ian Pooley took his studio to New Zealand where he spent a beautiful summer in the area of Piha. In a small condo with scenic view on the ocean, Pooley found the time to devote all his attention to the musical production. In this hide-away studio, the sketches for all songs of his new album were created, with Ian constantly gathering ideas and giving the tracks a rough layout. One result of these session is the wonderful summer anthem "Piha" which was created very spontaniously when New Zealand's finest Magic J came over for a short visit. Although it was of course never thought of as a chart hit, "Piha" climbed up high in the rankings of several European countries. With his computers' harddrive full of new music, Ian Pooley left New Zealand for Australia in order to program and mix his rough tracks into fine songs. Live musicians were frequent guests in the Sydney studio, playing and recording rhodes, sax, percussion and trumpets while vocalists added sensitive and strong voices to just produced Pooley tracks. It is a great honour for Ian Pooley to have some of his most admired artists featuring on his upcoming album: Marcos Valle, the Brazilian bossa nova mastermind, plays piano and guitar on one of the tracks and even sings his own vocals to it. Then, on one another track, there is the voice of Terry Callier, maybe todays most gifted blues and soul singer. Other co- productions are still in the making and from the already existing songs, we have much to expect from these collaborations. Another beautiful surprise was a recent phone call by Dieter Meier and Boris Blank of Yello, asking for Ian's assistance in producing three tracks for the new Yello album which is due to be released in the next months. While the trademark sound of Ian Pooley has never changed, the sounds and melodies of his tracks and his songs today embrace an incredible broad range of music. Brazilian and latin rhythms can be found in Pooleys productions as well as tasteful hints to soul, jazz and blues or nostalgic quotes of Detroit techno or New Jersey house. Many of his recent releases deliver an impressive proof of his openess to all forms of quality dance music and his DJ mixes show that Ian still is a DJ by heart (hence his take on the successful "nite:life" series, on NRK). In order to promote his music in the most independent way, Ian Pooley has just established his very own "Pooled" record label. Of course, Pooled will see the release of Ian's upcoming album, but there will also be releases of talented artistis from all parts of the world. Ian's very active DJ life takes him to many interesting places around the globe where his fans are longing to hear himplay. On his trips, Ian has always been on the lookout for new artists and so far has gathered an incredible pool of talent. His idea of running Pooled is not to simply release material of these new artists but to work with them as an executive producer, adding his production knowledge and skills to their ideas. And with the great amount of experience that is available to Ian Pooley, the new Pooled label is bound to be an instant success. 4 Years and Bumpin!!! upcoming events ---------------------------------------------- 05.21.06 IAN POOLEY (NRK, Buzzin Fly, Force Inc.)
