  1. You must have heard the saying, ''Don't be that guy'' when someone does something annoying or perplexing. In my last few dates here in Miami, I have encountered a share of D.B.T.G. guys, suggesting that perhaps there needs to be a manual on how to not be ``that guy.'' Link To Original Article
  2. This Labor Day Weekend marks a Bliss-ful occasion, as Bliss Productions founder Jon Cowan reopens his club Shine at the Shelborne with the Bliss/GrooveJET reunion tonight, kicking off a series of monthly events. Veteran clubbers will fondly remember GrooveJET's Friday night parties that rocked South Beach from 1997 to its closing in 2000. Tonight, GrooveJET resident Luis Diaz teams up with Dave Seaman and Cowan to relive the fresh mix of progressive house beats; 305-341-1318. Link To Original Article
  3. If your exposure to Bonnie Raitt consists entirely of catching Sanjaya's limp performance of the Grammy winner's hit song Something To Talk About last year on American Idol, you're missing out on one of the most important female figures in rock history. Link To Original Article
  4. It's been a long while since we've been inside the landmark Savoy Hotel at 425 Ocean Dr. in Miami Beach. In fact, we think the last time we were there was when early SoBe hot spot La Voile Rouge was open, and we don't even want to think of what year that must have been. Today, the hotel is once again haute, reinvented as yet another condo/hotel number, kicking things off tonight with a very refined -- dare we say mature? -- event called the Bill Blasstravaganza Fall 2007 Trunk Show, Dinner and Classic... 5. ''Do you know why I'm pulling you over?'' the officer asked me. I censored my knee-jerk, sarcastic response and then said, ''I really have no idea.'' Obviously annoyed, he quickly queried, ''Well, did you know your license plate lights are out?'' ``I didn't even know I had license plate lights.'' Link To Original Article
  6. Part II in Las Vegas. My friend Jason -- the groom-to-be -- was recovering from a Friday night bachelor party at Pure nightclub in Caesar's Palace, so our Saturday pool parties were delayed. Link To Original Article
  7. Godfather Part II. Once Upon a Time in America. The Untouchables. Goodfellas. A Bronx Tale. Analyze This. Why have I mentioned these Robert De Niro flicks? I'm a mafia movie maven and I'm paying tribute to De Niro's work because today is his birthday (Aug. 17, 1943). Link To Original Article
  8. Call it the summer of cosmetic enhancements, only unlike your best friend in the 10th grade (the one who came back from ''camp'' with a dramatically new nose and pulled an Ashlee Simpson, denying the whole thing), at least people -- well, places -- are admitting their makeovers. The latest spot to revamp this summer is Glass at The Forge, which debuts its remodeled chandelier room on Saturday with performances by DJ Skribble and the hardest working DJ in showbiz, DJ Irie. Funny thing is, we don't... Link To Original Article
  9. The next stop for the Dating Game's road tour would be Las Vegas for a bachelor party -- a tradition that goes hand-in-hand with singledom, as we bid farewell to one of our own headed for the grand challenge called marriage. (Some of us place side bets as to when our friend will rejoin us in single nation.) Link To Original Article
  10. When talk turns to night life in Montgomery County, the cities of Bethesda and Silver Spring tend to dominate the conversation. Link To Original Article
  11. Some nights, when you're out at yet another bar having yet another martini, a little voice pops into your head: "Shouldn't you be doing something more intellectual? Something to improve yourself with some semblance of culture? Something where the stimulation doesn't just come from alcohol?" You c... Link To Original Article
  12. First there was the smash success of Social Miami at Sagamore's Botox and Lox party for the ladies who lunch, nip and tuck, where said ladies dabbed their foreheads with gauze so as to stop the blood from the needle prick trickle onto their finest Tory Burch threads. Now, Four Seasons is hosting a series of evening receptions at the Splash Spa from 6-9 p.m. Thursday, featuring massages, facials, makeup and manicure touch-ups, consultations with beauty experts and Botox, Juvederm and Restylane ''at a very attractive price'' thanks to The Miami Institute's cosmetic surgeon-to-the-stars Dr. Julio Gallo. Cost without injections is $75 per person. The event is girls-only, and to inquire specifically about prices for the physician-administered enhancements, call 305-381-3993. But wait! There's more beautification going on in clubland. On Saturday night, Dr. John Diaz of E! Entertainment's Dr. 90210, will be the guest of honor at a VIP party at The Fifth, where a select few will receive gift bags with products, salves, creams and coupons for future work. RSVP is a must, so call 305-538-9898. It's only a matter of time before we see Saline Night at SET. Let's not hold our breath. Link To Original Article
  13. My grandma was outraged when Pines Seafood Grill, our Sunday night dinner destination, went out of business. I, on the other hand, was far from annoyed and found solace in steering clear of the near-perpetual standstill of traffic-laden Pines Boulevard. But the legacy of Catherine Bach brought me back. 14. We have been blessed here in South Florida with one of the ultimate places to meet someone of the opposite sex -- the beach. There may be no better site than the sand and sea to find someone who catches your eye. Link To Original Article
  15. When you talk about the world's biggest DJs, Dutch trance god Tiesto's name always comes up. After all, he rocked the crowd at the opening ceremonies of the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens (pick up his DVD Parade of the Athletes to see it). But Tiesto is probably best known for his remix of Delerium's Silence, with haunting vocals from Sarah McLachlan, perhaps the most popular trance anthem of all time. Tiesto takes over Mansion on Saturday night (doors open at 11) for the North American leg of his Elements of Life tour; 305-532-1525. Link To Original Article
  16. Not everyone ages as gracefully as, say, Opium Group owner and looker Eric Milon, who celebrates his birthday on July 28 with a flashy party at Mansion thrown by good friend and nocturnal rainmaker Michael Capponi. As Milon rings in another year, Mansion will debut its face-lift featuring a completely redesigned dance floor with brand new layout, redesigned furniture and, according to Opium's spin master Vanessa Menkes, ''some special design surprises for Mansion's three-year anniversary.'' Three years? It feels like a lifetime of debauchery, and in club years, it really is. On Aug. 4, the dance floor will be unveiled to the masses when Tiesto takes to the turntables. 17. I feel like I was stuck in a movie for a majority of my first dates. Unfortunately, the type of movie only a collaborative effort of Quentin Tarantino and Tim Burton could dream up: weird and creepy. Link To Original Article
  18. So there I was standing inside the Tampa airport, heart racing, a bead of sweat trickling down my forehead, as I waited for someone I had never seen but knew plenty about. Link To Original Article
  19. Janet Jackson and her entourage showed up at Suite at 12:30 a.m. Thursday night. Our spies tell us, ''Janet slipped through the back door and took over the entire VIP section with her group.'' Jackson was having a girl's night, arriving without longtime boyfriend Jermaine Dupri. Janet was seen grooving, arms in the air, to Rihanna's addictive hit song Umbrella. One onlooker tells us Janet is starting to look ''trim and fit,'' and was guzzling bottled water all night -- while her posse chugged champagne. Link To Original Article
  20. It's the 40th anniversary of the Summer of Love, that fabled time when girls -- and boys -- with long, stringy hair flocked to San Francisco for a piece of the peace-loving action. And while legends like Janis, Jimi, Jim and Jerry may be long gone and Miami has never exactly been a big hippie hub, there's still plenty of good vibrations in the humid air as some of the city's beloved establishments celebrate their own impressive milestones, such as the ninth anniversary of Lincoln Road mainstay Score, where Auntie Mame is more beloved than, say, Mama Cass, and where Elaine Lancaster will host a splashy party along with former Survivor contestant and Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency alum JP Calderon on Saturday. Word is drag queen lookalike Dickinson herself may show up, too. Link To Original Article

  23. Liked Maroon 5's brief but lively set opening for the Police on Tuesday night at Dolphin Stadium? You'll get to hear more than nine songs this time around when the Grammy-winning pop-rock/R&B group -- led by Adam Levine's soulful, angelic voice -- hits the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise on Oct. 20. 24. Say what you will about the French, but when it comes to Bastille Day, we're more than happy to drink le red wine-and sing the praises of liberté, fraternité and freedom -- er, French -- fries, well, just because. And you can do all that at Coral Gables' Biltmore Hotel, which presents a weekend-long extravaganza led by a team of native Frenchmen, featuring a five-course prix fixe Bastille Day menu with wine pairings from all over the French countryside along with Veuve Cliquot champagne, live music by French Canadian singer Manon Robert and a gift from the executive pastry chef, all for $79 per person or $125 with wine pairings.
