  1. Comparing night life in Washington and its outer suburbs is pointless because they're different beasts. 46300 McClellan Way, Sterling; 703-421-3776 25031 Riding Plaza, South Riding; 703-327-4288 5351 Merchants View Sq., Haymarket; 198 N. 21st St., Purcellville; 540-338-9800 6208 Multiplex... 5. Britney Spears may look like a member of the Manson Family these days, but for some, naked is better. Just ask the people behind Skin, the long-running, risqué traveling party celebrating its seventh anniversary Saturday night with 7th Heaven, a South Beach-meets-Caligula sort of event at Afterglo, 1200 Washington Ave. We're sure they'd welcome Brit with open arms if she could attend. Ironically, there is a dress code that's strictly enforced -- but we're thinking when it comes to Skin, if you're overdressed, you won't be allowed in. Also, no unescorted men are allowed into the party. Link To Original Article
  6. It's a great time to be a beer drinker in the Washington area. With the Brickskeller and Birreria Paradiso and smaller joints such as the Saloon and Tuscarora Mills, it's easier than ever to find small craft labels from across the country and across the Atlantic. Link To Original Article

  8. Before the South Beach Wine & Food Festival knocks you off your diet Wednesday, consider Sushi Samba's ode to Brazil's best known bacchanal, Carnaval, which kicks off at the Lincoln Road hot spot Saturday night and features four days of scantily clad dancers, dinners and cocktails -- lots of 'em. The whole hootenanny comes to a close on (Fat) Tuesday with a massive celebration featuring more dancers, drummers, Brazilian DJs and ''a number of outrageous surprises,'' according to the restaurant's publicist. Another welcome surprise is Social Miami at Sagamore's new Thursday night clambake, where for $39.99 per person, you can chow down on New England clam chowder, salad, and a bucket filled with one pound of grilled lobster, steamed Little Neck clams, steamed shrimp and corn on the cob with baked beans and cole slaw, from 7-10 p.m. The gathering started off quietly right before the Super Bowl and is expected to become yet another sceney gathering. 12. By LESLEY ABRAVANEL lank@aol.com Yet another big weekend is upon us, in more ways than one. For those who scored tickets to any of the South Beach Wine and Food Festival bacchanals, it may be heavy on waistlines, wallets and livers. For those who didn't, there's always the Academy Awards on Sunday night, and just because you aren't nominated or presenting doesn't mean you can't join in on the frivolous fun. Oscar Night America 2007's splashy party at The Flamingo of all places may cost you some money... Link To Original Article

  14. Keep your eye on the restaurant and nightclub scene long enough and you'll see and hear about cursed buildings: promising locations that, for various reasons, become deathtraps for a parade of businesses. Take the former Lewie's near Woodmont and Bethesda avenues in the heart of Bethesda. Despite... Link To Original Article
  15. Besides lukewarm coffee and weak mimosas, nothing ruins a brunch like a lifeless bloody mary -- you know, the kind that makes you wish you had just hit the snooze button instead of braving the crowds with a hangover. Link To Original Article
  16. Fundraisers don't have to be stuffy, stagnant affairs. But who are we to criticize events aimed at elevating consciousness and awareness over our own senses of heightened amusement? That aside, the folks at MOCA sure do know how to throw a fundraiser. Link To Original Article

  20. If you ask people who played the last time the Super Bowl was in Miami, they'll probably tell you, truthfully, ''Everyone.'' Ask what teams played and you may be met with raised eyebrows. Link To Original Article
  21. It has been a month since the D.C. smoking ban went into effect, prohibiting patrons from lighting up inside almost all bars and nightclubs in the city. Before the law went into effect, club owners, bartenders and promoters worried that it would be bad for business. Here's the flip side: I've... Link To Original Article
  22. I'm absolutely obsessed with belly-dancing music. I spent the entire day CD shopping and sampled the following albums: Best of Bellydance, Bellylicious, Bellydance Overdrive, Bellydancing Breakbeats, Strictly Bellydancing Volume 6, Joy of Bellydancing and The Art of Seduction: Gypsy Nights -- Belly Dance Music of the Balkans. 23. It's been a decade since Nikki Beach Club opened the floodgates for afternoon hedonism, The Thong Song, and slews of celebrities basking under shady palm trees and tepees. Imagine that. While some bodies who were (über) present at the beach club's opening back then may not be as taut as they were back then (though some might be more taut thanks to the miracles/massacres of plastic surgery), we're happy to say that after a bit of a respite from the radar... 24. Two weeks ago, this column looked back at the best new nightspots and trends of 2006. It's always nice to reflect -- and to remember that there was that one bar in Silver Spring you wanted to try but never got around to visiting -- but night life doesn't stop once calendars roll over. Promoters are... Link To Original Article
