  1. My crew of compadres gathered at Gatsby's in Boca Raton on a weekly basis. We loved it there. Large screen TVs, a youthful crowd, drink specials and most importantly, flocks of relatively available, beautiful women. Why don't we go there anymore? Because there isn't a ''we'' anymore. It's just a ``me.'' Link To Original Article
  2. To the great relief of Aerosmith fans worldwide, even the news that Steven Tyler has battled hepatitis C for three years (the singer says there's now no sign of it in his blood) can't slow down 'America's Greatest Rock 'n' Roll Band.'' Link To Original Article
  3. The long-awaited restaurant slash lounge Karu & Y, which we have been hyping for what seems to be a decade, is finally open and we've seen it with our very own eyes. While not open yet to the public -- you'll have to wait till Oct. 10 -- the so-called sanctuary of art, cuisine and entertainment at 71 NW 14th St. in Miami has revealed itself over the past few weeks with a series of preview cocktail parties... 4. I have a kelly-green T-shirt that says across the chest: ''Kiss Me I'm Irish.'' Even though I'm not Irish, the shirt usually yields a kiss or two every time I wear it. Link To Original Article
  5. Cheap Trick -- featuring the original lineup of singer Robin Zander, guitarist Rick Nielsen, bassist Tom Petersson and drummer Bun E. Carlos -- is back in the limelight with a new album, Rockford, the title of which refers to their Illinois hometown. Link To Original Article
  6. Holding center court at Quattro Saturday night were Gloria and Emilio Estefan, while ex-Heat player and restaurant co-owner Rony Seikaly passed by the tables making sure everything was swell. Link To Original Article
  7. It's rare that South Beach hotspots ever really give anything away other than, perhaps, a complex to those who are rejected at their doors, or a burning desire to be seen in boldface print alongside a picture of, say, Lindsay Lohan or Paris Hilton. This time, however, Snatch and Suite may fulfill that dream tenfold thanks to a clever little promo beginning on Saturday and continuing until Sept. 30, in which women lucky enough to breach the velvet barriers will receive... 8. Fun football facts: According to Wikipedia.com, football was invented in . . . wait, I'm sorry but I honestly couldn't get a straight answer out of this website. I did a search for ''football'' and it spit back pages of useless information about soccer. To play it safe, I'm just going to say the sport has been around for quite some time. 9. Parrotheads -- it's time to take another trip to Margaritaville. Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band turn West Palm Beach's Sound Advice Amphitheatre into a laid-back musical paradise Nov. 14. Link To Original Article
  10. Once in a while, it's nice to host an import that's not here peddling condos or plugging the latest brand of vanity vodka. And using the adjective ''funky'' to describe the music, not the motive, is a breath of fresh air, as is the case with New Orleans-based Brotherhood of Groove, a fabulous funk band that's in town playing at Jazid on Saturday. BOG is also playing a part in the New Orleans rebuilding process in collaboration with the Backbeat Foundation, a Louisiana... Link To Original Article
  11. Before his superb solo career, John Coltrane played saxophone for Miles Davis. At one of their gigs, the band was only able to complete a few tunes because Coltrane hogged up the stage-time with an hour-long improvisation. The press surrounded him after the show and asked why he took such a long solo. He said he just couldn't stop. Link To Original Article
  12. Welcome to the jungle again, South Florida: Guns 'N Roses will turn Fort Lauderdale into Paradise City Oct. 24 at the BankAtlantic Center. Link To Original Article
  13. Adams Morgan, Georgetown and Dupont Circle will surely remain the city's busiest and best-known neighborhoods for years to come, but barhopping along 18th Street or Wisconsin Avenue has become tired and predictable. There's no edge. 809 12th St. NE; 202-397-6040 1210 H St. NE;... 1380 H St. NE;...... Link To Original Article
  14. Want to watch your team's game at a bar with big screens and even bigger food and drink specials? Our annual guide is for you. Link To Original Article
  15. Helmets off to the Royal Palm Resort. They're bringing sexy back to South Beach with Rande Gerber's first-ever Maxim Lounge, and they've also selected Super Bowl weekend to debut the hotel's revamp into a men's sanctuary. Link To Original Article
  16. If any of you braved Publix last week to prepare for the non-event known as Ernesto, you may have experienced what we did -- a cracked-out cross between Cabbage Patch Doll frenzy circa 1984 and Depression-era rationing in which people were physically entwined over the last packets of tuna and the sole can of sardines. And then there were the lines. We haven't seen lines like that since the Studio 54 days -- or so we've heard. Anyway, after all that, the thought of a soothing concert seems welcome... 17. ON THE SCENE I have a friend named Sheldon. That might not be startling, but to make a short story long, here's how we met. I was at a local bookstore and I noticed a stranger staring at me. Every time I looked up, I'd catch him looking at me. I tried not to look up because I didn't want him to think I was encouraging this exchange. Link To Original Article
  18. Let the hysteria begin: Def Leppard is coming! The hard rock band that's sold more than 65 million albums heads for, appropriately enough, Hard Rock Live at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino near Hollywood on Nov. 7, along with Journey. Link To Original Article
  19. French DJ/producer Bob Sinclar is a master at creating feel-good music that compels you to move your feet. His sound recalls summer vacations, decadence and losing inhibitions, whether the style of his music borrows from reggae, Brit-pop and even gospel, as does his new album Western Dream. Catch him live Saturday night at Mansion on South Beach; 305-532-1525. Link To Original Article
  20. Russian DJ Boris' hard-pumping, driving sound has become synonymous with the underground ''New York sound,'' which is perfect for the main room at Space, where he's spinning Saturday night. His energetic, uplifting music has spurred major record labels to request remixes: Janet Jackson's All I Want and Thalia's I'm In Love for Virgin Records, Anastacia's Left Outside Alone for Epic Records, Jewel's Stand for Atlantic Records and Pink's Real Good Feel Good for Columbia Records. But check out Boris... Link To Original Article
  21. Hopefully by now you have your plans all lined up for Labor Day weekend, and they've not been screwed up by Ernesto. If not, that's OK, because you've worked too hard all summer to have to deal with making arrangements. As they say, procrastinators are indeed our future leaders, and with that in mind, there are a plethora of events going on this weekend for you to lead or follow your way into. First off is the South Beach Comedy Explosion taking place at Mansion on Sunday featuring comedian Tommy... Link To Original Article

Rumor has it that NY ad man Donny Deutsch, in town to visit girlfriend Amanda Lederman, will be given a private tour of the space. The club will... Link To Original Article
  25. Aging in clubland isn't always a graceful process. But when you're 17 and standing outside the ropes of Mansion filled with equal parts awe and envy, aging can be a most welcome process. The most common question we get at Velvet is ''Where are the clubs for 21 and under?'' While we know of a few places -- SoHo Lounge and I/O among them -- what we really want to know is, what's the rush? And while that may be a rhetorical question, we'd like to offer...
