  2. Irony is almost thicker than the humidity when it comes to summer in Miami. Think about it. During season, everyone's working their you-know-what's off at Equinox and David Barton so their taut bodies can prance through the doors at places like The Forge and Prime 112 -- steak houses, of all things -- hoping to elicit oohs and aahs from the not-so-taut who are too busy digging into their 80-ounce hunks of meat to truly notice the hunks brushing by them. Yes, restaurants during season are hot, but... Link To Original Article
  3. According to the sticker inside my windshield, my car was 1,400 miles overdue for an oil change. I brought it to one of those places known for speedy service, and was told to come back in an hour. Link To Original Article

Country music's enfant terrible Toby Keith brings another big show, with big sets, big hits and, of course, that big mouth his fans love so much to West Palm Beach's Sound Advice Amphitheatre on Sept. 1 for a tour he's callin' Hookin' Up & Hangin' Out, pegged to his latest CD, White Tra$h With Money. 5. You can't be late to the happiest of happy hours. So Stephanie Young clocked out of her receptionist's job in Falls Church at 4:45 p.m., went to the ladies' room to change into her tight-fitting Seven jeans and was in line by 5:40 p.m. Link To Original Article
  6. Red, white and blue may not necessarily be the best color combo for everyone, but when it comes to Independence Day parties, it goes with everything. Especially when you throw a little retro style into the equation, as Vizcaya is doing with their Red White and Blue fundraiser on Saturday with headliners Rob Base, DJ EZ Rock and Martha Wash. The early '90s lineup is just part of the evening's festivities. Flor de Caña and JP Chenet wines will be flowing... Link To Original Article

  8. Sunday, 7:20 p.m.: A friend calls to tell me about Andy's, a Davie bar that supposedly opens at 2 p.m. and serves until 8 a.m. 7:22 p.m.: I find the phone number for Legendary Andy's Lounge on the Internet. The woman who answers confirms the possession of an 8 a.m. liquor license. I asked if they serve food and she said, ``No, but we have plenty of ashtrays on the bar.'' Link To Original Article
  9. Joseph Anthony Nardelli Jr., 63, owner of the Tune Inn, a cozy neighborhood bar that some called "the Cheers on Capitol Hill," died of colon cancer June 19 at his home in Silver Spring. Link To Original Article
  10. I usually don't get too involved with non-New York Knicks related hoopla, but for Game 4 of the NBA Finals, I had an urge to root for the hometown team in the company of die-hard fans. Link To Original Article
  11. By LESLEY ABRAVANEL lank@aol.com It's OK to drink from a foreign cup, really, it is -- unless it's Germany, in which case it may sport a picture of David Hasselhoff. And how 'bout those Miami Heat? The NBA champs will be partying at Mansion tonight after the big parade, so be careful you're not trampled by overzealous fans. Some Heat players will also be at DJ Irie's charity golf tourney tomorrow at the Miami Beach Golf Course, in case you want to go and congratulate them. Among the celebs confirmed... 12. When I tell people I write one of the nightlife columns for The Miami Herald, they usually say, ``I'm sure you meet some interesting characters.'' Link To Original Article
  13. Although there's no MTV craziness to brace for this summer, July is looking to be a month of openings and hype. Last we heard, Twilo, the early '90s NYC dance and prance outpost, was opening in what is quickly becoming clubland proper -- downtown. Also on their way, eventually: another NYC import, Sound Factory, the long, long awaited Karu & Y, and over near Brickell, a place called Brick. But the Beach has a few things up its sweaty sleeve in July, too. Among... Link To Original Article
  14. We've found living proof that men improve with age. Just look at Patrick Dempsey, or, locally, Edison Farrow. His long-running Friday night testosterone-tinged cocktail confab, Euphoria Fridays, celebrates its third birthday tonight at the Afro-chic Madiba, 1766 Bay Rd., Miami Beach, where sassy singer Maryel Epps will perform from 9-11 p.m. After that, DJs Gil Rodriguez and Jenni Fox will take over while Ebonee Excell, Kennedy Davenport and Mizz Cori perform a dazzling drag show. Admission is free... Link To Original Article
  15. Bad songs are like leeches. Once they get attached to my brain, it's almost impossible to pry them from their hold. The only way to fight the parasitic tune is to consciously replace it with another. Even Corey Hart's Sunglasses at Night couldn't stand a chance if confronted with the music found at www.seaescape.com. Link To Original Article

  18. The Howard County Council voted late yesterday to ban smoking in restaurants and bars, a measure that would make the county part of a five-jurisdiction smoke-free zone stretching from the White House almost to Baltimore. Link To Original Article
  19. If I could rid the bars of the world of one thing, it would be the Internet jukebox. Sure, choice is a good thing. After all, why should you be able to select from only 100 records when you can download any one of 400,000 songs? Here's why: Those fancy online jukeboxes suck the... Link To Original Article
  20. There are DJs who string together club anthems competently -- and then there are DJs whose technique behind the decks is jaw-dropping. Miami's own DJ Craze definitely falls into the latter category -- his manic blend of hip-hop, breakbeat, drum & bass and turntable wizardry is untouchable. Find out for yourself Saturday night at Revolution in Fort Lauderdale at the Bass Sessions V.1 party. Also on the bill: Scratch D, Photek, Juju, Infiltrata, Hydraulix and Merlyn; 954-727-0950. Local favorite DJ Roland -- who cut his teeth spinning at Club Space with Ivano Bellini before the superclub moved up the street a few years ago, and more recently rocked Amika on Saturday nights -- helps you keep the party going at Nocturnal early Saturday morning with a sizzling afterhours set on the sunny terrace. Hardcore party animals will remember Roly's joyous, high-energy sets in both the Blue Room and out on the terrace at the old Space; 305-576- 6996. Link To Original Article

  23. Sometimes it's not just about the party, but, rather, the art of the party. And you needn't wait until Art Basel to experience such a phenomenon thanks to Miami-based pop artist Carlos A. Navarro, who is celebrating Coral Gables' gallery night with a presentation of his titillating new exhibit, Scene of the Crime. Navarro has created this collection as an homage to, according to him, a renewed interest in Miami's Scarface era. ''It was lived here in Miami by actual people and now it has been invigorated... 24. Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to bid farewell to a friend -- a friend who has welcomed us with open arms time and time again.
