wideskies
i was doing some online research about STDs, you know, for safety's sake (you can never be too safe these days!) and found out certain disturbing things that i didn't know before!here is one such disturbing thing about Herpes, for example, that some people might not be aware of:"Can I transmit herpes if I don't have any active lesions? Yes!! One of the incorrect assumptions about herpes is that people can not transmit the virus unless lesions are present. Many people diagnosed before 1996 or so were given this information. It has since been proved false. There is a phenomenon known as AVS, or asymptomatic viral shedding, and it is estimated that the average person with herpes has AVS for 1-2 weeks out of the year, but it is believed that this varies with the number and severity of outbreaks. "-http://www.racoon.com/herpes/So kids! Be sure to share pertinent information about your sex history with your partners, even if you think it isn't relevant. It can be awkward to discuss such things early on, but a sexual relationship can have serious consequences even if the relationship itself is a casual one. Take care of yourself and those you might not even like very much at all, because we don't need any more schmucks in this world.

hoke
Just goes to show once again that there is no such thing as safe sex.I know a few people with herpes, and I know a few people with HPV (papillomavirus). Most of these people thought they were being safe; they were playing it by the book. Yet, both diseases can be asymptomatic for long periods of time, and both can be passed without intercourse. Also, HPV is nearly impossible to test for, especially in men. So even if your doctor says you're clean... that doesn't mean you are.MANY DOCTORS ARE HIGHLY MISINFORMED ON THIS FACT.Before having any sort of sexual contact with a new partner, it's important to have "the talk". Yes, I know it's not romantic... but it's a candlelit dinner in the moonlight by the Thames compared to an outbreak of herpes, genital warts, or cervical dysplasia!Face it kids... sex is not a carefree activity. You don't need it to exist happily, so I recommend you weigh the risks versus the benefits VERY carefully when considering sex with a new partner.Take care of yourselves... above all. weyes
i'm shocked even at how often people i know who are in "relationships" (as though those are always solid) don't use condoms, even if just to prevent pregnancy. i've heard so many excuses... i, personally, have never once had unprotected sex. it's not that hard to say, "we're gonna use a condom, or we're not gonna have sex." most guys will choose the option that lets them have the sex . hoke
I'm gonna keep bumping this until it gets sticky.weyes: People also need to know that condoms don't prevent all STDs, and that some STDs can be passed by oral sex, as well.
gambitrah
good topic..kinda scarey tho...if u think about this (to me) it puts it in perspective:lets say u have slept with 5 people in your life (high for some people, real low for others) and each person they slept with also slept with 5 people...one can see how that exponetionally (sp?) grows so you didnt just sleep with 5 people..you have in effect slept with hundreds of people...if u are one to listen to statistics...its usually like 1 in 5 or 1 in 6 (or 25%) of people have some sort of STD...well..a lot of STD's are fairly invisible until something pops up..something physical or u get it caught on a test...so...out of those hundreds..how many are\were infrected and are you now infected...scary shit. and even if u wrap your shit or have your partner do the same that doesnt mean u cant get it...we are all adults..we know this yet people still go out and bang ass unprotected..if u wanna do that..its your life..just dont whine to me or the public when u catch something. But that's the thing -- you're exactly right -- monogamy isn't a safeguard at all. It's not just random hookups that are dangerous. You can have only a few partners in your lifetime, all of whom you love and trust, and STILL get an STD, because one of them at some point slept with someone who had it. And the scariest thing is, they might have gotten it despite wearing a condom.Plus... since not all STDs can be tested for or show immediate symptoms, you can end up getting an STD from someone who doesn't even know they have it.Triple bags and body condoms, indeed... doused in sulphuric acid! gothzane
This is why I just stay home and stock up on my porn collection these days.I was getting heavy with a girl not too long ago and we were about to breed like minks....so i get up and grab a condom out of my wallet....she tells me to stop...she doesnt like the way they feel...so I spend a good 3 minutes staring at her with that "Your f'ing kidding me" expression....I got dressed...called her a fool then left....was she ever pissed....but she didnt care about herself...why should I.some people...but because of people like her...im offically retired from women for the time being...not because im afraid of getting something....but what happens if I gave something to someone else....I dont think I could handle that in any form....so...I play it safe...abstenence. cool2223423123
Hoke:a) You DO need sex to exist happily It's true that you can still get STDs even if you use a condoms, yet condoms make it much harder to get STDs.c) Monogamy IS a practical safeguard against Sex if you both get tested. True, there could always be that case where the disease slipped through, yet you could get hit by a truck tomorrow as well. It's pretty unlikely. Unless I am to assume that you are refering only to HPV, which you say is nearly impossible to test for in men? And can that lead to cervical dysplasia in women? Is that why women get pap smears? Or do you need to have pap smears even you've never had sex?d) Tests for everyone are the best way to deal with STDs!! We should have STD clinics on every corner!!e) And finally.... You could die tomorrow. Do you really want to live your whole life without sex? I don't.Info on HPV http://www.unspeakable.com/facts/warts.jsp (Where did you get your 60%-80% statistic?)
