vipnerd
what would your basis of analysis be as to who the resident djs and/or promoters should be ? ...

pod
I'd just book my friends since they are all good DJs with strong followings ...plus they usually know top-flight DJs as well and can get them.
stogiey2k2
I think now days with all the competition you need a badass set up, you need theme parties to keep the variety flowing and you need not necessarily Big Name DJ's but well liked DJ's and the popular ones. eKiTeL
I would go out and see if any of the DJ's playing around are any good, and also solicit demos, most of which I'd probably be able to throw straight in the garbage, then I'd ask the ones who made the cut to submit more demos, or come in and audition live, that would be the best thing, explain my vision and then have them give me their interpretation of it, or their alternative vision, or whatever, and also for the opening parties I'd do like an open decks type thing, get all the dj's that seemed promising together for a couple of nights and see who really makes it work, my goal would be to get a couple of dj's who I see can really grow and evolve with the place, and help develop the signature sound on a consisitent weekly basis, I wouldn't start throwing money at big name out of town headliners until I got my in-house residents making things happen consistentlyfor promoters they would have to be on the same page as me with my visions, and able to contribute to the overall theme, people who I sensed were honest and straight forward, but then I'd also make sure there was a way to check how many people they are actually bringing in, with their guest list or numbered passes, or whatever, though I'd still consider working with a promoter who might not be bringing people directly, but whose contribution to the overall concept seems to be bringing in a lot unafiliated typesand I would have to be rich and not depend on the thing to really work for sure, but be willing to give it 110% knowing that the chances of it really becoming successful are only like 10%

mrmatas2277
i agree with blendprod...a good "local" dj with a following and a same with the team of promoters...but...both promoters and djs have to offer something to the people that most places dont...whether it be music, theme parties or promotional give aways....u have to offer something "else" than what ur comp. is offering.... bingo
i got one for you, how are djs supposed to be noticed if no one would have them play to get that following in the first place, i belive what pod said is true, alot of promoters push their friends outs there because shit why wouldnt you help a friend out, thats why if an outsider comes to miami and he or she is extreamly talented no one would give he/she a chance because they wont bring anyone so it's a risk and they dont personally know them. so it's all some weird circlemy two cents are wrong or right as they can be-domingo
stormentgroup
I would hire all the "new jack" Warm up DJ's who never had any major sat night residencies anywhere............than I would put them in charge of booking other DJs (who don't draw either but maybe I could get a reciprocal gig out of it)...........than when the club is almost out of business I would ask the new jacks to ask there dad for money to invest in the club (so that i could keep my residency and the club could stay open) ...................wow what a concept.................................nah .......................who would be dumb enough to do that...........................or maybe i would just put an add in the paper for DJ's wanted...........hey at that point what's the difference
