The REAL reason why shock and outrage ensued after Monday Night Football

It's because the WHITE naked actress, Nicolette Sheridan, jumped on a BLACK guy, Terrell Owens. I don't think those conservatives in the south would of cared if it was WHITE on WHITE, but since it WHITE on BLACK, it's a moral outrage to them.

Not really according to this article

By The Associated Press

If ABC hoped to generate a little bit more buzz for "Monday Night Football" and "Desperate Housewives," its steamy intro to the Dallas-Philadelphia game sure did the trick.

Two days after the network aired the segment featuring Eagles star receiver Terrell Owens and actress Nicollette Sheridan, coaches and players were still talking about it.

Reaction ranged from amusement to anger. Indianapolis Colts coach Tony Dungy found it racially offensive.

"To me that's the first thing I thought of as an African-American," Dungy said Wednesday.

"I think it's stereotypical in looking at the players, and on the heels of the Kobe Bryant incident I think it's very insensitive. I don't think that they would have had Bill Parcells or Andy Reid or one of the owners involved in that," he added, a reference to the coaches in the game.

ABC's intro showed Sheridan wearing only a towel and provocatively asking Owens to skip the game for her as the two stood alone in a locker room. She drops the towel and jumps into Owens' arms. Owens is black and Sheridan is white.

"If that's what we have to do to get ratings, I'd rather not get them," Dungy said. "I realize that ratings pays us in this league, but if that's what we have to do, I'm willing to take a pay cut."

Philadelphia quarterback Donovan McNabb wasn't quite as vocal, saying he didn't find the segment offensive and believed people were overreacting. (Owens wasn't at practice Wednesday, excused for what the team said were personal reasons.)

"Some people do different things," McNabb said. "Not saying that my wife would allow me to do that, but it's just something that was done, and you move on."

Michael Powell, chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, had a different view, questioning ABC's judgment in airing the scene.

"I wonder if Walt Disney would be proud," he said.

ABC is owned by The Walt Disney Co. The FCC will review complaints and decide whether or not to open an investigation that could result in a fine against the network.

"It would seem to me that while we get a lot of broadcasting companies complaining about indecency enforcement, they seem to be continuing to be willing to keep the issue at the forefront, keep it hot and steamy in order to get financial gains and the free advertising it provides," Powell told CNBC.

The segment drew complaints from viewers and the NFL. ABC Sports apologized for using the introduction to promote its show, "Desperate Housewives." Dungy's comment, however, was the first that mentioned race. He also said the segment played off stereotypes of athletes.

"That athletes are sexual predators and that that stuff is more important than what's going on on the field. That a guy was more concerned with that than the game, that's a terrible message to send," Dungy said. "I'm particularly sensitive to that. It could have been any player and I would have been outraged, but being an African-American, it particularly hurt me."

A decade ago Dungy was outspoken about the lack of black coaches in the NFL. There are currently five, including Dungy and Lovie Smith, whose Bears will face Dungy's Colts on Sunday.

"I thought it was in bad taste also," Smith said. "You could say that it was pretty close to pornographic, so any time that happens on prime time, something is wrong."

But Smith didn't find it racially offensive.

"I really can't go that far," he said. "I saw a naked lady with an athlete, period. Black, white, that doesn't really matter an awful lot to me."

Dungy said ABC had asked the Colts, who played on Monday night last week, "to do some things I thought would make our players look a little bit silly (although) nothing like that."

"We kind of declined," he said.

Some players were also shocked.

"My mouth dropped when I saw that," said Washington tight end Mike Sellers, who was watching the game with his wife. "I said, 'Did they actually plan this on TV?"'

But at least one of his teammates wasn't bothered.

"I thought it was kind of cool, myself," linebacker Marcus Washington said. "I enjoyed the skit."

The real reason is that there are a bunch of fat women who were pissed off when their husbands started gawking at Nicollette Sheridan.

This country needs to loosen up. There is nudity all the time on TV in Europe and kids arent scarred. If we were a little more relaxed about this stuff everyone would be better off.

But they are pansies according to the right-wing in this country.

<sarcasm>

Maybe its because of all the nudity! Hmm...then in that case, NUDITY IS A CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER TO THIS COUNTRY!!!

lol

My theory is that the # of child molestors, rapists, etc. would be reduced if we werent so up tight. Either that or they would be exposed at a younger age. Everyone is so tense when it comes to SEX SEX SEX in this country.

I thought that for a while too, but there was a pretty cool article in the op-ed section of the nytimes a couple weeks ago about this population that lives somehwere in the pacific totally out of touch with modern technology and basically no contact with the world at all. The girl who wrote the article, Dea Birkett explained how even without these influences there was a huge problem on the island with child molestation and rape and shit. Here's a link but the article is old so you gotta pay $ to read it:

You could try a google with the authors name and the name of the article to see if anyone ripped it off the times site. "Island of Lost Girls"

Ding Ding Ding!! I know I wouldn't want my kids seeing that crap

unfortunately a lot of people in this country wished you did not talk about sex at all. not when your a kid, not when your in high school, not when your in college. so you grow up not knowing shit and in places like wher i am this week, jackson, mississippi, you can see why the fuck the teenage pregnancy rate if off the charts and the state of mississippi leads in the country in the STD rates.

again, i'm just wondering, those of you that ID yourself as being conservative, how many of you actually live in middle america or in rural america and know what is going on out here? my sense is that most of the people on here live in major metropolitan areas living in areas that are in the most part liberal.

yeah i do not think the conservatives on here really know what those red states are all about.lol

they are probably worse than being a member of the log cabin republicans and as out of touch with middle america as they claim the democrats to be.

they would be as worried and scared as i am after 1 week of doing interviews and focus groups with people in jackson, mississippi.

btw, i had no idea walter payton had gone to jackson state univ.

I think we're all missing the point that this was shown during a time when children were up an were probably watching that's not something the majority of parents want thier kids to see.

Siceone...thanks for being the voice of reason and clarity on this. On point.

p.s. I want to hit Sheridan's ass.

what kid even stays up until 12am on a school night to watch the garbage of a team that the cowboys are?

allthough to give siceone credit, i think almost all of us would think differently if it was our kids watching that stuff. i wonder how much our views on these type of issues will change when we get older, get married, have kids.

Let's see - I went to college in upstate NY...in the middle of the sticks...like 1 traffic light in the whole town sticks...and we competed against lots of schools in the midwest and south so I travelled there lots....so believe me...I know!

I was watching it and was like what the fuck? I thought it was a shameless attempt tp promote one of their TV shows trying to get another demographic to watch. It was in poor taste and completly inapproiate.

Seriously how many kids under the age of 10 are up at 9pm on a school night?

Anyone kid over 10 has seen and done worse then that nonsense. I wonder how many parents know what their kids are doing on the family computer?

so 4 years out of 25-30 years? visiting is one thing, living is totally different. i have no problem visiting mississippi, but i would never live here. a place where the first thing they ask you when they meet you is "do you have kids," and "what church do you go to?" no thanks. i consider myself a good catholic but some people here verge on pure fundamentalism.

now some people are complaining about prostate cancer ads being placed in TV and mags being too racey for kids to see. this looks like a witch hunt. what is next? you cant talk about condoms in schools, you cant talk about sex in schools unless its abstinence. how can you talk about abstinence if you dont talk about sex? its a whiplash of extreme conservatism and that's just as bad as the extreme left.
