calebdead
yankee fans better worry about their own team and not waste time hoping other teams lose. with upcoming series at minnesotta and at st.louis, it aint getting any easier. If those 'other' teams are division rivals, then why wouldn't I 'waste' my time hoping for them to lose. HELLO!? They're in our division, for Christ's sake. btw, it doesn't waste any time to hope for another team to lose. I can 'hope' and do other things at the same time. I'm a multi-tasker. jtk4
I'll take an 8-5 homestand...hahaha keep on taking them and you will be in 4th place all year.
kfitz73
hahaha keep on taking them and you will be in 4th place all year. It's all a matter of perspective. We just had a 13 game homestand which went like this:Pirates: swept 3Cubs: swept 3D-Rays: lost 3 of 4Mets lost 2 of 3Everyone is harping on the last two series. No one would say anything if it went like this:Pirates: win 2 of 3Cubs: win 2 of 3D-Rays split 4Mets: win 2 of 3Going 8-5 might not seem like much, but that's a .615 winning percentage. A .615 winning percentafe would be good enough to lead four divisions. (including the AL East) If they played .615 ball the rest of the year they would probably make the playoffs... The point is just get the wins no matter how they come...Now if we were in September I'd be worried because imo it's very important to have momentum going into the post season. The last few years have shown that usually it's the hottest team that ends up winning it all, not necessarily the best one...
jtk4
IF any of those teams had a winning record then it would be ok but against those teams, you should be better then .600 so you can split against the good teams.also good teams should be better then .615 that at home because it is harder to win on the road. If you go .600 at home and around .500 on the road then you will not be in the playoffs. Good luck with the next stretch it is brutal for you guys mostly after the allstar game 11 games in 11 days against boston/texas/angels all on the road. wallflour
Next 10 games are big for the Mets agains division rivals... Mets did well against Phillies, let the Marlins series get away, then did really well against the Nationals (ironic that Pedro was the only Mets pitcher who lost in that series)But these first two games (with one more to go) against the Pirates were simply a crushing blow. Unless they can come up with an incredible 2nd half run like the Astros last year, their playoff hopes are over. Especially if they continue playing like they have.It was almost exactly a month ago when the Mets were a game away from being in first place in the NL East (but didn't get it when they lost the game to the Giants), and look at how things have changed since. It seems that the turning point was right after Pedro's gem vs the Astros, when they had their best record of the season.
