vegasguy25
A few friends of mine and I are getting a table at Ice for Sunday of Memorial weekend. We're buying two bottles, at a minimum of $300 each depending on what we get. We're also paying a $50 per person service charge, for four people. Throw in the tips, and we're clearing a grand. So far, these charges are agreeable to all parties. However, here is where I got angry: Ice also wants us to pay a $50 per person cover charge to get in. IMO, that's complete bullshit, and I feel that the club is taking advantage of us, and gouging. Since when does a club make its VIPs pay the cover charge? The $1,000+ you're going to make off of us is not enough? I think that Ice's mgmt. has gotten increasingly greedy lately. What do you guys think? djmasterweb
In my 20 years in this business I have never heard of charging cover to bottle customers - that is an inexcusable policy in my opinion.
lalate
Dont pay it.Who is that is spinnin with Tiesto? Is it Deepdish? I told someone that last night that they want $75 for Tiesto-Deepdish. The girl said - thats idiotic. I saw him for free at Avalon LA on Wednesday night.Sophisticated clubgoers are NOT stupid.
vegasguy25
See guys, that's exactly how I feel. Especially with what masterweb said. I too have been clubbing for a long time, and have done bottle service plenty of times. I also have never heard of making bottle service customers pay cover. If we're unable to get that charge waived, I think that will be a dealbreaker for me, based simply on principle.
danswat79
Fuck that - tell them you're a local and come suppor them almost every weekend when its dead. If they can't at least drop the cover charge don't bother. Even though it only an extra $50 - its the principle. That place really pisses me off for what they are trying to do that night
lalate
You know .. there is a radio station in la where the host "Thalia" always says "we thank you for listening to us. We know you have other choices out there and thank you for choosing us."The approach of ICE is contrary to what they should be thinking. Every venue has competition. You dont treat your patrons right, they'll eventually consider other options.Last Saturday, we helped throw a party here in LA for a new venue opening. We pulled in between 3 - 4,000 people. The problem: the venue's line operations failed and gave us a line of approximately over 2 city blocks long. Clubs are micromanagement. And they have word of mouth factor. What Ice is doing here is incorrect.
djmasterweb
I think they are creating policies like this to make money now because, from what I keep hearing, ICE's current location has about a predicted lifespan of about a year. Apparently they will be tearing down that building as part of a big renovation of that whole block. So customer loyalty may not be their top priority anymore. Cashing out seems to be more important. lebed316
Where is the table? I had to buy 8 bottles for the best patio table Sunday night. They will allow me to substitute a bottle for a case of beer or water.

For those who don't know what Masterweb is referring to, hotel giant Starwood purchased the land Ice sits on, as well as all of those shitty apartments surrounding it, and plans to build a W Hotel and resort. All of their moves lately, from raising prices, to charging cover to bottle customers, to making locals pay full cover all the time, doing two seatings for this coming Sunday, etc., all indicate, to me at least, that Ice will be demolished along with those apartments to make way for the W, and that the owners are cashing in now while they still can. I do not know for sure if this is true, that Ice is history, but like I said, their actions lately indicate that.

2kool4school
Charging an extra $50 at the door is total B.S. for bottle service/ table customers.

greenie
No matter what you call it, anytime you go through the process of setting up VIP treatment, are given one set of prices and then have them upped on you after you commit... total BS.I really love ICE, the size, layout and especially the music really matches my tastes, I can't wait for AVB this week... but this crap combined with $75 cover for short Tiesto/Dish sets combined with knowing they're gone in a year? Well, let's just say it's really sad that the one top non-casino joint is cashing out even worse than the most cooled single-text table.Sure sounds like an opportunity for a few of the other clubs in town to start reeling some of the crowds back in their favor. The return of Pleasuredome is a decent start... that is, if MGM allows that to continue...sigh.
