NYC most Under-Rated DJ!!!!

Recommended Posts

i like exacta, but with his crobar residence, and well known tracks like 'flippin' he is not really a 'secret' at this point. but he is good.

i wld say JON JON BATTLES. most of you might not know him but he was a resident at larry tee's disgraceland at crobar in 2004, he spins at boysrrom & i think the new opaline too.

he plays some of the best electro-house you will hear anywhere and he also plays some excellent funky deep house. since he's more in the ;new weave rock' crowd like junior sanchez is now, many people may not know jon jon but i promise you hes one of the best young electro & house djs in nyc & I hope he gets better known & booked soon.

also even tho harry choo choo romero is world famous & made many hot joints for subliminal, he is not usually named when people discuss the best nyc house djs. let me tell you he was SO HOT last night at canal rom it was some of the best straight up house ive heard all year. with a slight progressive tip but really its classic subliminal house incl deep funky . choo choo kicks ass.

Exacta will be the biggest dj in NYC by New years. everybody sleeps on him, following boris and guys of that nature his mixing skills, track selections, programming, everything. and hes a producer/remixer at that. definitly exacta along with mike whitemore, low end specialists are far from underrated but they are definitly on their way up again

Totally agree w/ Harry "Choo Choo" Romero!

But here are a list of guys who can rip shit up and dont get an ounce of the credit they deserve;

Peter Bailey: Great DJ & Producer, guy throws down some sick sets and produces banger after banger!

Mike Macaluso: Partner of Peter Bailey's @ En Soul Records agian talented DJ and really sweet producer, has released some nice stuff on his En Soul Label!

Chris & Kai: Spin in the area regularly but not enough, they have produced an aresneal of hot tracks and have been featured on the guest mix of Digweed's Kiss 100 show.

The Low End Specialists: Mac & Ali are 2 great guys and are total pros at what they do. They have played alongside some of the best DJ's in the world and they have been noticed, playing a slew of venues overseas.

Razor: Yes the Razor of Razor N Guido, but this guy is definatly worth a listen. If you see his name on a pass check it out! He does things that will make even the top DJ's in the world turn their heads.

Rik Santiago: Good friend of mine and more of an up and comer to many people. Rik has played a buch of dates @ Spider Room and has a track forthcoming on Twisted Records. His music selection of big tribal bombs never dissapoints.

Rob James: A name you seldom here very much but an amazing DJ. He has produced a few tracks that have been signed to a bunch of import labels. S.O.L.I.S. is the moniker he and the 112 Crew's Matt Licata used on their remix of the Trancesetters - Roaches and their own track Dolphins which came out on Addictive records.

Its Boris.....He really dosent produce much but he spins amazing sets... Its some of the best Tribal and Tech house I hear. Not to metion his parties are crobar are the best. Awesome crowd, awesome music, He is so underrated.

boris is far from underrated, if anything, hes extremely overrated. you hear the same set of songs just in different order every single party. the only reason ppl go is to get drunk and find the hottest bitches in town. crowd is dope but musically, your trippin to say boris is underrated.

I'd have to agree with all of MattM20's picks.

Also:

Mike Whitmore, without a doubt. He's definitely getting a bit more popular in NY because of his Crobar sets, but he still doesn't get the credit he deserves. Defintely a raw talent, and he always kills it with his track selection.

Anthony Martinez, formerly one half of Future Primitive. Haven't heard him spin very much around NY throughout the years, but the few times I've heard him, he was a maniac in the booth. Also a very talented producer.

Boris is definitely not underrated - judging by how packed Crobar was last time he was there, he is very well known. People love him, and if you can't get into  CROBAR  at around 12:30 - you know the DJ is really popular!!!

Tribal/tech - that's what Boris promised to deliver, so that's what Boris delivered. I'm sure he can theme parties to whatever style he wants.

I'd say NY's most underrated DJ is :bounce: David Waxman :bounce: . People actually think he's too plain, but I thought his sets were really enjoyable - at least when compared with what you get when you randomly hit house parties in clubs just because you feel like checking out a new spot.
