line pass?

First off, sorry if this is a dumb question.

I don't normally go out to clubs, but my girlfriend is coming into town from the 21st until after near years and I figured we'd hit a few clubs while she's in.

Basically, what's the best route to avoid standing in lines :). It would either be the two of us, or possibly a group of 4.

Not looking for VIP or table service, just not wanting to stand in lines...

In order to get into any nightclub without waiting in line, it will be necessary for you to pay the doorman. Depending on what club you want to go to, the size of the tip will fluctuate, but the base tip will be at least $30. This doesn't guarantee that you won't have to pay cover. At many of the more popular clubs in Las Vegas, a tip will merely get you past the line but doesn't include your cover charge.

This may or may not work depending on the club you are trying to get into. Ask the door guy how you can get in without waiting. If he says to take care of him then pay him. If he says that you can't, don't waste your money. This will only work at some clubs. At the bigger clubs like Pure, it is a hassle to get up to the doorman that you would pay. THIS WILL NOT WORK ON SPECIAL EVENTS! Don't walk up to a doorman on New Year's Eve and ask him to take care of you. He'll tell you to go buy a ticket and wait. This is why people use VIP hosts. Hosts take the uncertainty out of this equation.

want to avoid the line? GET THERE EARLY. if a place opens at 10pm, get there at 10pm.

Nothing like the voice of reason.

This suggestion is doubly good since you'll be a couple, as compared to a group of guys. Not to mention, if you're not a regular clubber then going into a place before 11 likely won't make that much of a difference to your enjoyment... and hell, even if you were a regular, it's not the worst thing in the world, watching people file in and see if/how the vibe changes as it gets closer to midnight and beyond.

Just make sure you're not paying anything more than a good tip if you get line passes from a taxi driver. And I personally wouldn't trust free entry tickets from a cabbie.

Many cabbies in town will try to sell you passes at what seems like an attractive price -- say $20 for 4 line passes -- and in reality, the passes give you no benefit whatsoever. You'll see people handing out the same exact passes for free on the strip or sometimes even inside the casino a mere 200 feet away from the club entrance. Most of the time the line for your line pass is the same as the general line for the club; other times it may be a different line, but it's no shorter.

In all honesty, if you want to go to avoid the line at the bigger (read: more popular) clubs in town, your best options are (in no particular order):

- Get on the early-entrance guestlist that the club itself offers (e.g. OPM)

- Get on the early-entrance guestlist that a website offers (e.g. clubplanet)

- Arrive at the club no later than 10:00 (earlier on really big nights)

- Work with an independent VIP host (e.g. Mecca, Mr VIP, LA Late)

- Ask a casino host or concierge (if the club is in the casino you gamble/stay at)

Be informed on everything. On another board (not ours) someone was talking about a hookup the got for a skybooth for tao for nye - super super price, even everyone in the mix thought it was a good price. Person obviously took their time and got informed.

i think 95% of the time the cabbies just gave us the passes for free....i've never paid for them but have been there when some friends did but that was a long time ago.

I've used the passes. For me they worked like a charm. Tangerine, Pure, Ice, Coyote Ugly, Vivid, Bikinis(which sucked) I had passes for each of them last Feb and they all worked. The napkinnights guestlists also worked like a charm.

You don't have to pay for them. Most times they come free however, if you want to make sure you have the ones you need you can buy them for less than 5 bucks most times on ebay.

It is true that passes do work, sometimes. There are two types of passes that are distributed. One type of pass, entitled "VIP Entry," allows the cardholder or the cardholder plus one guest to get into the club for free. The other type of pass, entitled "Line Pass," allows a cardholder or the cardholder plus one guest to enter through a VIP line (not necessarily "the" VIP line where people get in fast), but they still have to pay cover.

There are two unattractive points about using "VIP passes:"

1.) VIP pass holders still have to wait in line (unless card says line pass). The terms "VIP Entry" mean exactly that you will walk in like a VIP for free after you wait in line. For those of you who have been to Pure, or at least walked by it when it was open, you have seen that the general admission line is at least 3 or 4 hours long. VIP passes should not be used on a major night (Fridays or Saturdays) at a major venue like Pure, Tao, Jet, or Tryst for this reason. If you see that the VIP line looks to be an hour long, you won't have much luck using a paper pass to gain VIP access.

2.) In many cases, "VIP passes" specify days that they are good for. Some of the passes specify nights that are actually popular such as Thursday or Friday, but others are only good for an "offnight" of a venue, like Tuesdays. Rain used to print VIP passes that were good on Thursday and Friday, but not Saturday. Other venues print VIP passes that are only good during the week, but not on Friday or Saturday. Body English had a VIP entry pass that was good for Sunday, but excluded Friday and Saturday. On the other hand, they had another pass that was good for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

To all who are interested in "VIP passes," here is our summary of things to look out for before purchasing passes:

1.) If the pass says "VIP entry," it means that you get in free after you wait in the general admission line. It the pass says "Line pass," you will have to pay cover, but you won't have to wait in a line that is as long as the general admission line.

2.) If it is Saturday, and the pass you are thinking about purchasing says any other day other than Saturday, don't buy it.

3.) Look for any expiration dates listed on the passes. Passes at some venues do have them.

4.) Look for limitations listed on pass (e.g. VIP entry before 12:00 a.m.)

Some good points MrVip thanks for sharing. Also to add to the #4 you have above. Some of the passes (currently ones for Drais and Tao that I know of) state clearly FOR WOMEN ONLY.

When we used the VIP passes we arrived early. The lines were shorter then and the pass got us in for free. So it worked for what we needed it for.

I will say we went to ICE and had been placed on the guestlist from their site. Well that guestlist closed at midnight. So watch out for things like that.

It's worth reiterating that passes don't work holiday weekends or special events.

Also a very good point. Paper passes don't work on Memorial Day weekend, 4th of July weekend, Halloween weekend, or New Year's Eve weekend, not to mention special events (e.g. special dj's).

Hey all! I am going to LV next weekend on a business trip. I would like to take some collegues to Ra, and do the 4 person special thing for $300. It is a "holiday" weekend, Martin Luther King's. I would like to go Friday night. Would that special be good for that day?
