barraquilla Posted March 8 Report Share Posted March 8 gangs aren't located in a particular town or area. kinda hard to explain, but l.a is urban sprawl. there is no one central city similar to say manhattan, where you could define uptown, downtown, good or bad neighborhood etc. basically, you learn from driving (in traffic) which areas look safe for you and which don't. you could probably find dangerous activity in every city - i work in santa monica, a really nice part, and just a few weeks ago a cop was shot... doesn't mean there's constant danger, just that there is random violence here as everywhere else. having said that, stay away from cities that have a liquor store on every corner, but few super markets, shopping centers, or banks. those are usually my indicators to not stop.glad you want to move west, but l.a. is definitely not that special... plus, we're full. jk Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Go to china town during the day for some lunch, but unless Liquified is holding an event at the Mayan you should never go there. Hollywood is safer than it seems. Yeah it can look a little dingy, but pay attention. You can't go 2 minutes without seeing 3 cop cars. If your in west hollywood or further west your just fine. Pasadena, glendale, universal city and burbank are fine too.The valley is hit or miss, Sherman oaks is fine, but panorama city is NOT. Just avoid it all together cause there is really nothing all that worth while there anywayrule of thumb, if you are close to the ocean you have nothing to worry about. The easiest way to get around in this town is to know your North South East and West. Not that hard to do, the ocean is always west and if you can see the hollywood sign it is probably north of you.Look at the number of cops around and the type of people, building fronts LIE (The Globe, for example) because the polution in this town destroys building fronts few place bother spending money to clean the outside, but the inside looks great. I was just in downtown to go to a friends bday party ... i drove around for 30 minutes to find a parking spot on the street... drank a beer in my car.. parked might i add.. and then ran for my life... while next to me was an ambulance that said ... SKIDROW>.. freaked the shit out of me.... anyways... downtown avoid if possible.. but it's cleaning up ... hollywood... there are always cops around... alot of hookers... but just be careful..my car was just broken in to... thank goodness I had decent insurance...WeHo.. you're A.O.K. to walk around in a mini skirt...the valley ... don't get suckered into doing a porno...oh and where I live. by the beach.... expect to be safe.. bums here are kind... give them some left over food and they're happy...LA is fun.... you learn the city very quickly... barraquilla Posted March 14 Report Share Posted March 14 definitely stay away from porn companies, they are pretty much all over the valley. beware specifically of these areas, if a company from chatsworth (most smaller porn companies) or westlake village (hustler and a few other moderate size companies) offers you a job in "entertainment", be very afraid. you can kinda add noho and van nuys to that list, but they are mostly in distribution.
