For recreational purposes, I'm reading Requeim for a Dream by Hubert Selby Jr....it's one of the best movies I have ever seen, so i figured I'd read the book. I usually read the book then see the movie..but in any case, it's a good one.

Yea duckets i loved that movie also. That director is sick! Did you see pie? It was preaty good as well. I'll check out the book. How is it compared to the movie? Didn't the same author write "last exit to Brooklyn?"

Requiem was sick wasn't it! it was by far the most disturbing movie I have ever seen! I made a friend of mine get me the screener copy so now I own it, and i torture myself by watching it too much! I'm going to school for film directing and producing, and I talk about that movie all the time!

I haven't seen Pie, I heard that was good!

Requiem (the movie), is better than the book so far...I haven't finished reading it yet.

And yes, i think Selby is the same author that wrote Last Exit to Brooklyn.

You're definitely not the only one that reads cwm27.gif

Currently, 2 of my faves are short story collections, "After Rain" by William Trevor and "Interpreter of Maladies" by Jhumpa Lahari. The Great Gatsby is one of my all time favorites...Wuthering Heights is up there too...always makes me cry <sigh>. Well I'm an English major so I could go on forever wink.gif.

___What do we really mean when we say "REAL" and "FAKE"? Is Hip Hop really meant "to be here forever" or is hip hop's ultimate goal to eliminate itself?

___Should Graffiti Writers orginize to tear up the cities, or should they really be bombing the suburbs?

It's for hip hop insiders and outsiders alike to elevate hip hop, American Culture, and ourselves, to a higher standerd of art ethics, intellect, strategy, adventure, and honesty in our everyday lives.

Well, I work in publishing so if you let me know what genres you prefer I can make many suggestions... Some personal faves:

One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia-Marques... truly has to be one of the greatest books of all time...

Moth Smoke by Mohsin Hamid... the downward spiral of a recently fired twenty-something, who falls in love with his slimy best friend's wife and starts selling drugs for a living... very well-written, intelligent, interesting...

And I'm just now finishing this really good book "Class Dismissed" about Berkeley High School. It's all about how, although Berkely High is the most ethnically diverse hs in America, it's still completely segregated; and various problems the hs goes through. Good if you're into race/class issues (I was a sociology major so it's right up my alley!)

I was reading something on the BBC web site. Aparently the average British person reads 4 1/2 hours a week. They were asking what could be done to improve that. It seems bad until you here that the average American reads 10 minutes a week. cwm1.gif

VT2Be is right on. Tolkien hobbit and lord of the rings is an annual read for me. I just finished Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test by Tom Wolfe. Pretty cool book! Currently reading False Memory by Dean Koontz, I'm 80 pages in and already getting freaked out.
