  1. epic, uplifting trance, that is. i know i know it's cheese...but I cant help it guys i just love the goosebumps. jk I enjoy lots of other genres as well, especially progressive---but Lawler makes me a bit nervous with those dark drumz of his but Im sure I'll at least make a cameo on fri since I usually stop by Avalon at some point on fri's and sat's. I feel like ass myself right now too...home sick, eating soup and trying to watch movies on demand. even if we dont get together this weekend next weekend is compulsory, obv.
  2. you're wicked good stuff joey. thanx for the info. welcome home too
  3. thank you, dan. I may ask Santa (not Bad Santa) to bring this to me at the end of this month.
  4. Yes, Dan, Rebecca tells me you are quite an exceptional photog and a cool guy too. Im Evan, i hope she has mentioned me to you as her and I are quite tight--we lived together in nyc and she moved down to Tampa. Anyway, I'd really like to get some of your insight on the best digital cam to get, especially for taking pix in nightlife arenas....something like you have to take magnificent photos but not too expensive. i am not sure what going rates are for quality digi-cameras, but Id like to spend somewhere around $300 . If something is more expensive but you think it is really great, Id still like to know the brand and model as there are many places here in nyc to buy used photog equipment that is still in mint condition...for a fraction of the cost.
  5. http://www.crobar.com/newyork_countdown/ny_teaser.html Apparently Jonathan peters and Victor Calderone will be residents there. Ummm JP? That is phucking disgusting. He needs to be assassinated to save our city! I cant imagine why crobar would want to pack their club with a SF crowd...but whatever this is hearsay so maybe it is not true. I've never seen Victor perform nor have I :-[ :-[ever :-[ really listened to anything of his. I always get scared off by the lines of leather/muscle bound men that wait in 10 block long lines to get to his shows.
  6. First of all, Dan, you took some amazing pix from the event this past weekend...I wasnt there but your shots make me feel like I was. Â That is a photographic accomplishment ;D Nick and Sarah, once i get a digital cam (soon) I will commence this for you in nyc if you'd like... SECONDLY. Â If you are a big PVD fan , I must share this with you. Â I did before but this is for reiteration purposes, because it's that good. Â Listen: There is a set available, it is PVD's closing set from this past september at Amnesia. Â Whoever doesnt have this, yet loves PVD, it is an absolutely essential set. Â No other PVD set has ever touched me so intensely---I think the first 80 minutes of this closing set is some of the most superb mixing he has ever done....the clarity of the recording is superb, and you can hear the ice machine exploding over fans....the crowd singing along with "as the rush comes", and so much more. Â It begins hard and takes you ona journey from there. I think I would have spontaneously combusted if i were present at this event....but then again I did see him and tiesto perform at amnesia on the 17th of July and I combusted then, so that is my solace. Â A friend of mine got it off www.nu-horizons.com. I think this is a pay site, but it is cheap and there are tons of valuable sets added weekly. Other than that, im sure there are tons of way to get an mp3 of the set. If anyone gets it please post your remarks here! I hope that some of you can find this and take advantage of its amazingness. Â
  7. Very interesting discussion here, and it is so nice to finally see people having an animated yet CIVIL discussion on the topic of trance and house, rather than Trance VS. House. Both are genres of music and both are clearly appealing to audiences. Being from and living in NYC myself, I think that here we might have a decent blend of what you guys are asking for. There are multiple venues that play certain types of music on certain nights...the likes of Centro Fly, Roxy (usually holds big trance events like tiesto and pvd), Filter 14, Cielo, Avalon and more---There is usually somewhere to go on any given night with a palatable choice of music, respectively.
  8. well the place I went to wasnt named Rome, but Rhone. If you've never been there you must check it out, I was thoroughly impressed with the joint....very ecclectic atmosphere, amazingly good looking people, and funky soulful house beats pepper the place. I think it would be a great place for the junkies to meet up when n&s come up from miami. It isnt too loud and there are big comfortable couches, seats and tables- IN general I think the Meatpacking district is fantastic. Definitely one of my favorite hoods, with chill spots like pastis, meet, rhone, cielo and APT- but nothing beats our funky east village. just got in from brunch at my favorite french place (Jules) on st. marks...got a few new things from Urban and stopped by suprise suprise for some households.
  9. Charlie--- shiiiiit you def. got me. 8) got your message a bit late i presume your out and about at this point.... no worries...im laying low (semi) this evening...going to go to Rome (near MEEt in the meatpacking district) to chill with friends in a mellow environment. I was buying new furniture all day and want to take it easy--- Plus Ive lived at avalon for the last few weeks...I want a break from there before Lawler this weekend (potentially going ) and definitely attending Sasha on NYE. Will yoube there on Nye? if so, we should go together--- I love sasha and am really looking forward to that event. i will begin a NYE post this week to see what we all are doing! No matter what we are all getting together in mid december when mom and dad junkie are in town. ok? good times ...
  10. yes Charles it is quite hush hush. This is indicative by the full page add in Time Out Magazine this week. ;D
  11. god thanksgiving eve really sucked this year...My roommates and I had siblings in for the night, so we took them to Park....which was infested with 20 year olds all home from college. It was pretty pathetic... As usual, the drinks were strong and within a few hourd I was itching to dance...so I grabbed a couple of my favorite friends and we went to Avalon---I had forogtten it was oakenfold spinning --- and I had forgotten how horrible he is as a DJ as well....the man really needs to retire....and the dancefloor was so slippery and I had new leather shoes on so we only stayed for about a half hour. It was the worst music and worst crowd for that 30 mins.. At some point I ended up more drunk than usual...and I woke up in a blanket on the roof of my apt building this morning in broad daylight with my roommate. that was a bit confusing..... hope your nights were better than mine
  12. Nick we need to bring these types of incentives, etc to nyc, although I imagine it would be an incredibly big hassle considering the nature of the nightlife industry here....but maybe it is the same in Miami?
  13. I am not soley a trance enthusiast , son. I am growing out of that phase lately...i have had a delayed adolescence in several respects
  14. SO, it's thanksgiving eve and the line-up this year is pretty pathetic if I do say so myself. I think the best act this evening may be Roger Sanchez at Centro? Charles and Joey, what are you doing? Joey I know you said you were considering Exit since KTU's Reina will be performing "No One's Gonna Change You," but has that decision been set in stone? lemme know. I saw Roger Sanchez perform at Crobar last year----it was pretty fun....but almost anyone can make a night fun at Crobar. Any thoughts on his performances guys?
  15. you love it Joey-- I cant imagine why you are so critical of trance when I saw YOU jumping up and down at pvd in front of the Dj booth and trying to get him to autograph the napkin you took from the bar :....I mean, come on...stop fronting.
  16. BT and Tiesto---a great mix ! Did anyone see them spin together with Way Out West at Spin two years ago at the WMC? what an amazing night, annd what an amazing combination!
  17. terrific that you guys had a great time ;D were charles and joey able to meet up or have you yet again been in venues at the same time and not found each other ?
  18. what does tpa stand for in your name? my friends and I say tpa when we have a gross hook-up = trailer park ass.
  19. PS clarles CJ has conex at avalon -- you mentioned before that you want to review events there but hate the line---Illl put you in touch with the people to speak to
  20. well Prince Charles...I had gone home up to westchester last nite to visit some fam and avoid partying it up this weekend. I came home around 2am last nite (train was late comin into Grand Central...) I had to work at 10am this morning so I wanted to get a nice nights sleep.....but....alas, my friends were still in my apt and the party was amazin so I donned a pair of hot diesel jeans, a cowboy shirt and my signature hat ---and made a drink for the road. Went to see Ferry, someone I have never seen but have always really enjoyed...his set was so fun=-=-I mean, it was the same epic fist pumpin stuff one would expect but the crowd had more energy than Ive ever seen at avalon..ferry was a dancing MACHINE behind the decks---so interactive it was really a catalyst for the crowd to move their bodies---I drank a bit too fast (since i decided to go out moments after getting home when everyone was leaving) and I was definitely dancing out of control but nothing feels better than that 8) he spun many many tracks that Tiesto and van dytk spin, along with some of his sig songs like clear blue water, and gouryella, a classic that is always great to hear live--- the staff at avalon, yet again, was the most sincere, courteous, cool staff at a nyc club. alll in all I had a terrific evening yet again in the greatest city in the union. Wish Icould have caught seaman the night before too... sorry this report isnt very introspective im pretty shot
  21. damn I didnt know i was a moderator that's hot thanx ;D
  22. uplifting sounds are nice. Â i like them. Â im feeling nick warren a LOT now tho...if you guys ever get a chance to see him be sure to go---i saw him at limelight here in nyc this past saturday and he blew us away....even more than pvd the night before. Â what a weekend thta was..... smooth, melodic, amazing beats were spun the entire nite....and what a great place to see him! nick why dont my stars show up here i cant believe you made them conditional
  23. haha that is generally true . But come on, no one, not even God can judge music. Music is individual and nether you nor I have a place to say that someone has no idea about house music because they like paul van dyk. If it gives them goosebumps, if they smile when they hear it and their body can move to it....then that is all that truly matters, dont you think: ? i mean, i dont want to get into a rhetorical discussion about it, but this is how I feel.
  24. and thank you for the stars Nick! i mean, i really feel like a part of things now. it's nice to be special
