  1. I wouldnt buy Technics if your starting out. You will not only have to get used to beat mixing, but also get used to handling the pitch control on a direct drive. Get a pair of gemini belt drives (will cost you about 180 for a pair), and a cheap gemini 2 channel mixer. (about 80 bucks). FUck with that for a year or so, you should beat-mixing down by then, then buy technics so you can apply what you have learned to a direct-drive environment. Trust me, you will be happier in the end. It is much harder to learn beat mixing when you have to learn about the mechanics of a turntable at the same time. With belt-drives, you can use your hand. On direct-drives really can't, or really shouldn't. Hope that helps.
  2. My first time at SF was about 2 years ago. Back then it was PHAT!!!!, when Eddie Baez used to be good, and the guinnea's didnt rule the scene. Now it sucks!! My opinion, Jonathan Peters sucks!!!!! (sober or not) Just my 2 cents.
  3. It's ok. Really progressive though (for my tastes that is )
  4. Well....I love my 1210's, but I heard Vestax made a lot of improvements on their turntable. You can also control one turntable with the other (coooooooooool). But in the midst of all this technology, lets not forget one thing..they are turntables. Whether it be belt-drives to direct, they all still serve one purpose --mixing. In my opinion, if it aint broke dont fix it. But, I would prefer Vestax's over Technics, if I was scratching my face off. But for the pleasure of mixing with quality equipment, without getting to digital (coz nobody wants that ), I will always prefer Techs over Vestax. Vestax are here now, but I think Techs will be here for longer Just my 2 cents.
  5. Dude, DAT's do not have better quality then CD's. But, a good tossup would be MiniDiscs versus Digital Audio Tapes. I do think DAT's may have a slight edge in quality over MD's, but I think MD's are more versatile. I used to love my MD's before I got a CD burner. But now, I love my CD's and like my MD. I use the MD to record my mixes on, and then dump the MD recording on to my hard drive for burning on to a CD. Since I'm on the topic, does anyone know where I can purchase an Analog to Digital converter? I want to bypass line-in and just connect my MD// mixing board to my sound card via digital connection. The line-in involves way too much audio cleanup, and is taking away from the original sound. Thanks
  6. Yes I will be there to hear their sets. They should be there from 5:30 - 8:30 approximately. It's wierd, because when I was in London last November to hear PvD and John Digweed spin w./ Slacker live @ Bedrock, I was surprised to hear PvD, "rippin'" it up in the Virgin Megastore over there, that same day. Didn't think they would ever have that over here Hope to see you all there and no, I will not be getting any CD's autographed by them. haha see ya'.
  7. Wish I could've been there. Next time you go..check out bedrock..by villiers square...the place is small...but digweed always does an amazing job when he plays (digweed's club).
  8. Steve Lawler was amazing. But, I like the way Digweed is playing these days. You can definitely tell the difference between sasha and digweed (most of the time). I don't really care for Sasha, but Digweed...AMAZING!
  9. I love napster...I already have 8 gigs of DJ sets via napster/ opennap...as for songs...i dont know....
  10. sure ill trade..but all my mp3's are 40 minutes in length to 120 minutes in length...full-length cd's...i have like 8 gigs worth...lemme know
  11. Good for you alexandra....but next time...you be the better woman and just ignore this dickhead...and any other dickhead's stupid ass comments...these people thrive off this kinda shit.....unfortunately..we live in a city/ world of assholes..oh well
  12. Yes...back in the days the crowd was much better..none of this segregation crap was going on...everybody was friendly to everybody else..coz the music brought them there...and...no one likes guinneas....not all italians are guinneas....not all puerto ricans are spics.....not all indians are cab drivers...get it....guinneas are guys (italian guys--root of the word) who walk around like they are the shit...cause fuckin' trouble...etc., etc......spics are dirty ass puerto ricans..they will rob your shit...and cause a fuckin' ruckus....puerto rican is another culture...italian is another culture...we usually define the bad people of a culture with a derogatory word....get it...enough of this racial back and forth shit...it's a part of life (in NYC that is)...we are all prejudist to some degree or another..but we are not all RACIST!....cultures tend to stick together because they feel safer in them...that's it....it's pathetic to ALWAYS want to do that..but it is awesome to still have culture..and be proud of who you are...proud enough that you can go venture outward and have a mix...enough said..lets drop this topic..we are all grown up on this board...and not a bunch of teeny bopper highschool kids....ok...peace! (P.S.--sorry for the ... I wasn't thinkin' about punctual stops and what-not )

  16. You know I agree with all of you, but especially highbpm about throwin just a few clasics here and there. Since I'm on the topic, what was amazing was to hear Paul van Dyk throw in SnS by Y&T (on strictly rhythm records) at like 7AM after playing some of his "fluffy" shit. That song took me back, and as it did the same for my night! He definitely gained instant respect there, because that song (hope you all remmeber it) is a classic, and it showed that his roots dont strictly stem from the New Order/ Human League days. Just my 2cents
  17. Dude, I think your just droppin' drama here. Either that, or, you like KTU. Probably the latter. Although, I must say, I cruised by KTU in my friends car at like 4 in the morning like 2 weeks ago on saturday, and it was bangin'! Literally. No commercial music being played at all! Reminded me of the old hot97 sat. night dance parties, back, back, back in the days! But, even still, go back to the KTU caves kid !
  18. Anybody goin' to see Danny at Stereo (Montreal) this Sunday? I was thinkin' of maybe goin. Anybody have tour dates on Mistress Barbera since I'll be there already (if I go).
  19. Damn, I remember Robots. What a place! Is the new place like the way Robots used to be?
  20. Too much E is doing it more than once every 2 mos or so. You can't get addicted to E, since it does not directly affect you physically (but it does inadvertantly). In my opinion, people do a lot of E to substitute for a lack of love (loneliness). At least that is why I abused e in the past, and other people that I know as well. It can be fun, or used to be fun), but it ends up turning habitual, BUT NOT ADDICTING. People become different while under the influence. They may have liked the person that they once became (i.e. more outgoing, friendly, etc., etc.), but now are trying to get back the old E days (yes we all remember them), so they keep taking it. Then it takes more and more to get you back there, and in the process makes you a tired and weary clubber. E is cool once in and a while, but gets to be really boring, just like all drugs and scenes do. Oh well. Wish I never abused it, but never regret taking it. There is a time and a place for everything. Just my 2 cents See you guys.
  21. Yes 5-htp works...but dont take too much...youll go through a disorder called serotonin syndrome. Also, St. john's wort works as well. As far as E is concerned, it's potency is diminished if you have abused it in the past (yes that's all of us ). If you take some 5-htp b4 and after your roll, it's supposed to increase potency and lessen comedown. In my case, and probably for others, everytime i roll these days, I have no type of comedown, what so ever, and all E dopes me out when I'm rollin. The methamphetamine properties of it have seemed to diminished. Oh well. I guess we'll all have to party sober....haha...hope that helps
