Stay on oahu if you want to do the touristy thing. waikiki, the north shore, lanikai beach. Hotels can be expensive bu there are cheap hotels in waikiki if you look hard enough. You can learn to scuba dive or snorkel at haunauma bay, dont know about certs though. If you're looking for naturous adventures spend more time in Maui. Hawaii is incredible, the people are very friendly and laid back, have fun.

being laid off was great! i was laid off about 2 years ago and got a great severance package. I parlayed it in atlantic city into big money and was able to take the whole year off. Enjoy your semi- retirement!

I went to LA over the weekend and had a blast at avalon on sat night. During the day there is so much to do, so much more than here. I guess alot of the people out there are pretentious but you get that same type everywhere you go including the clubs and bars here. Prob a bad idea to give your number out over the internet dude.. It seems like IBM is outsourcing alot of IT jobs lately . My friend who works at farmers insurance is losing his job as well. Newark is poop man, why dont you move back to this area?
